Title: [Solved]rmXP interaction script
Post by: scoace13 on June 06, 2009, 06:11:53 pm
Ok, this is not going to be an easy script.

What I need:
*the player can use the mouse to target object/events/monsters in the world then using a key on the key board the player brings up different interaction menus aka(if there was a computer the player might click on it and press d to bring up a a menu thats has attack skills a player could use)
*the mouse can be used inside the menus to select the different options
* theres more than one menu and the commands inside are customizable via common events.
*it can connect to the original menu (the player opens a menu and selects equip and is taken to the equip menu that comes standard with RMXP)
*uses uses the same window skin as the regular menu
*overrides the regular menu
*menu key are customizable

thank you in advance for this.

K...can someone just at least tell me if this is at all possible as a script.

I now only need the menus that open via hotkey and link to the common events

this can be done because I have seem multiple scripts doing this (there hard to find btw)
Quotethe mouse can be used inside the menus to select the different options

seen also scripts control the main menu so should be possible.
Quote* theres more than one menu and the commands inside are customizable via common events.

this is easy possible.
Quote*it can connect to the original menu (the player opens a menu and selects equip and is taken to the equip menu that comes standard with RMXP)

can be done
Quote*uses uses the same window skin as the regular menu

that's a easy 1
Quote*overrides the regular menu
*menu key are customizable

and those 2 are also possible.

the problem you face its probably gone need multiple scripts. and its a really big project to do.
you can say its way to advance for peep to just make it in there free time while they are not using it themselves.
maybe you are lucky and someone here got to much free time on there hands :P

let me attempt to explain how this is supposed to work(this is theory) every interactable item on the map is first assigned a number via (how ever it need to get done there are planned to be more that 10 items of such per map in the project im using this for) when clicked on that number is stored as a variable then when an action is selected from the menus it is targeted to the item who's number matches the variable in storage.

waite you just want to use this for a menu? not interacting with the map, you just want to use to create a menu?

the click does nothing more than store a number as a variable thats all after that the mouse is only used in the menus to execute common events. so in a way yes.

I hate to say it but it would be WAY easier to get some one to create a CMS the works with the mouse. they could give you the map as background thing and all too.

but then how would i use my interaction commands... even if those were set in the menu they are also used in combat meaning the player would have to pause the game to attack and defend and what not.

wait wa? I though you said that you were going to use this to make a menu? do you have a battle system or something? out line EXACTLY what your going to use this for not HOW you want it to work but what the final product will be. then maybe I'll understand. half the time it sounds like you want a CMS the other half it sound like you want a battle system

this doesn't answer my question.
your were talking about clicking on enemy events are you using Blizz-abs or something? are you creating an evented battle system? dout you want a CMS theat works with a mouse? are you asking for a script that would allow you t create an evented battle system that works with the mouse? what are you doing give us an out line of your ENTIRE game/ what system it has EVERYTHING! other wise we wont have a clue what your asking for! you being incredibly vague. if it helps make a few diagrams/mockups in paint or some other photo editing program. we need to know what you need before we can help you.

this probably wont either but im going to try. and there are screenshots coming of kinda what i want from an online game that kinda does the same thing.

think games and stuff like WoW or Last Chaos where you click on something the select and action from a menu called up by hot keys...like i said probably doesn't help much. But thats exactly what i want the system to do. screen shots to come later cause i gotta finish downloading and installing the game then i ll be able to get them.

You still didn't answer the question...

What battle system are you using?

none...this is the only system every thing else minus the other script request i'm about to post is evented

if you don't have a battle system  then why are you talking about enemies?
Title: Re: rmXP interaction script
Post by: scoace13 on June 09, 2009, 11:03:33 am
i meant there is not script that handles the battles im event every fight the player gets into...there are still  enemies and stuff basically i want my game to work like an online game minus the online.

so you want an ABS that works wiht the mouse for targeting?
Title: Re: rmXP interaction script
Post by: scoace13 on June 09, 2009, 11:25:51 am
um kinda but not really. this system is supposed to use the mouse to target objects from eneimies to doors and etc. then via a hot key a menu is opened and commands are selected for that target. the commands themselves are actually common events that are called. and then proceed to execute an action at the slected target wheather it be attacking or talking or opening a door or chest.
I hope i explaind this better if not im working on the screens shots for what im talking about... i think this key diagram should help some i found it on the site fro the game i getting my screenshots from.

hope this helps some.

give us a BIG PICTURE explanation I've said this many times before but unless you lay out your entire plan for your game insted of giving us bits and pices of your systems we won;t know what it is you need or want from us.

ok  big picture. at the moment the game im working on is planned to have the feel of a large scale mmorpg so im trying to write/request system that allow me to do just that. this script would handle the menus and the targeting. the other script i requested would handle the shortcut bar. (am i explaining this better)

and then all 'battle' processing would be handed through common events right?

common event and mapped events yes.

well good luck now that i know what your trying to do is sounds like a hell of a lot of work. I've seen an evented ABS before and the level of eventing used was insane and what you doing is just as hard if not harder. I hope it works out
Title: Re: rmXP interaction script
Post by: scoace13 on June 09, 2009, 04:31:56 pm
...it not really hard(unless i don't get this script) just long and repetitive
Title: Re: rmXP interaction script
Post by: scoace13 on June 10, 2009, 09:40:20 pm
ok the time has come and i think i got this worked out this is supposed to work :

mouse click =action button on event
event store a number as a variable
press a key on the keyboard for a menu
use mouse to select an option from the menu
option calls common event which checks varible number
then sets a switch bassed on the events id
the switch triggers the event.

example:\

player clicks on a door and the opens the interact menu selects open
the open option calls common event open
common event open sees that the doors event id is 006 because of the variable value
and turns on switch 6 to activate the doors parell process which then opens then door and the player can proceed through

what makes this script really hard is the fact that you want to click on events if not for that it would be fairly easy. also I or any one else who did this would need a mouse input script.

I suppose you could check for a mouse click, record the position of the mouse, translate the mouse x any y in to the 32 x 32 grid or rmxp and then check if there was an even at said position. that said I have a script the checks events that i could use as a base...

tell you what if you can beg Blizz and get him to release his mouse input script I'll see what i can do I'll probably only have time to do part of the system for you (the part that records event clicks) so don't get upset when i can't finish it for you.

I would rather have Blizz's as it is sure to be cleaner and work better and lag less and... *rambles on about how Blizz's script is sure to be better*

check your pm's i gave you an add for the second script you sent me that will store the ID of the last event you clicked on (if the event had a graphic) in $game_system.last_click_event_id. $game_system.last_click_event_id wil be nil if the last click didn't have an event under it.
