Title: favourite Final Fantasy game
Post by: Pm6583 on June 19, 2009, 08:06:57 pm
Hay lets have a discussion

Whats your favourite Final fantasy game.

Mine is Final Fantasy 7

I just liked the story, characters and the fact that it seems to have loads of twists and secrets with loads of background story that needed to be filled in.

The game just made you think

Plus the gameplay was AWESOME!

Golden Sun > Final Fantasy

but in terms of FF, I'd have to say FFIV, or FF 4. just because it was the only one I actually played. that, and the Dark Knight guy was just cool, even when he became a paladin.

My favorite has got to be 4. It's kind of the only one I played through...Final Fantasy 1 was really great during its time.

But seriously now, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves that you didn't include the Chocobo Games. Those were awesome. :V: (I haven't played them :< )

I didn't like FFX at all. The characters were shallow (absolutely no depth) and generic and the story was a ripoff from FF6 and FF7. It was first FF I didn't play through the end because it bored me to hell. Even FF7's story was a ripoff from FF6, but it wasn't a complete ripoff (crazy guy wants to become a god). It had some new elements and all in all it was alright. FFXII was good, though. It went away from all the generic stuff and added a serious tone to the series. But story somehow doesn't seem to be happening. It's like there is no story. :/

Agreed. Definitely earns its place as one of the best RPGs of all time, though, just for being PWN. (and lol, I never beat it, mainly because I was having too much fun just playing as opposed to forwarding the plot -- I had 80+ hours when I was at lvl 30, :P)

And WHAT? FFX is good because "it combines all the others?" Have you even PLAYED FFIX? It does the same thing (and sadly, it does happen to be a bit of a rip-off in most areas, but given that the game was MEANT to be that way for the sake of saying goodbye to the Old School and the PS1, that's acceptable), but it's AMAZING. It's THE most Final Fantasy Final Fantasy has ever been.

Lucky U. FFXII bored me to tears! It's bearlly has a story, and it's look like something that should go online. Hell, i think that FFXII is made to shom how much FFXI fail. I mean only thing that didt bored me is Fran's Bunny-chick ass.
Dont read it if u did't played FFX: ShowHide
Not even the fact that she is over 50 y old

i mean, game as game is fun for some time, but as FF... by my rating, 6/10.

No, god no!! NO!!

Blizzard ... :(
Final Fantasy X was my all time favorite.

@WCW:
Once you hit Zanarkand the game WAS basically over. After that, they implemented the free roam feature by allowing you to use Cid's ship for transportation. During this time they added the ability to unlock the grid points with Cid's ship, so you could go back to master your weapons, and unlock the new dungeons to train in.

The game itself had in my opinion ... a grand number of astonishing features not before seen. The sphere grid(I loved it), Blitzball(phenomenal), Interactive Limit Breaks, and etc ...

I liked it, but definitely not my favorite (tie between IX and XII there). The Sphere Grid was PWN, but Tidus has to be the suckiest lead since Cloud and Yuna had almost no lines as I recall. Rikku just sucked all around, Wakka got annoying, Lulu was an emo. The only good characters were Kimahri and Auron, and that's just because one was a giant blue guy that could steal powers (he automatically gets the Quina factor) and the other one was a ghost-zombie-thing. That's NOTHING compared to Redhead, Ratlady, Monkey Boy, Big Head Girl, Overpowered Midget Boy With Hat, Silly Little Girl with Weird Horn on Head, Really Annoying but Still Morally Righteous and Dedicated Rusty Guy with Funny Armor, and The Really, Really Fat Blue Guy who Could Eat Monsters and Then Spontaneously Kill Grand Dragons yet had No Interesting Trance Abilities. (the first two are there only so it could be Fibonacci)

WHOAH! Whoah, whoah!! Take it easy there .. .. .. Longfellow

Auron
Auron was just badass, period.

Rikku
Rikku was so giddy and had kick-ass eyes, so she didn't need anything else to be awesome! Not to mention, SHE introduced the feature to use alchemy in the heat of battle to confound and destroy her enemies in the form of a Limit Break!!

Lu Lu
Lu Lu wasn't emo, she just hadn't gotten over Chappu yet :P. But to this day!! No FF character had and will never again use a Moogle to attack!!

Yuna
Yuna was centered around a pilgrimage to gather summoned monsters. Summons were never introduced this way before. She had a storyline of her own!!

Wakka
Just annoying, but funny as hell. He added hours of laughter that I wouldn't trade for the world!!

Kimhari
Lancet sucked, but it was cool to see the Blue Magic skill fused into another skill.

Tidus
Tidus was an awesome Leader. He was the very 1st Main FF character who was an athlete, Lol. Had father problems that he had to carry on his shoulder, but never lost the sense to do what was right. He was a teenager who fell in love which deepened the plot, and he also was a ghost, in a sense. He was awesome!

You mean "Aeons?"

If you wanna head in that direction, I don't see where you win. If you are saying that "aeons" were an all original feature(which I don't understand your reasoning because of the "summons"), than you are further proving that FFX had originality. Moreover, FFX WAS the 1st FF where the player had the distinct ability to not only control their summoned monsters, but customize them and teach them new techniques as well.

If you unlocked the secret ending in FFX-2 then, yeah there was a kiss & end, happy bla bla part where Tidus comes back.
Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU9Iz51P3WU)
Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxxBA6Si3YU) - This was badly recorded but it's okay, only one I could find
I unlocked them, I just can't remember how I got the second one :P

Now let's see, in no particular order, FF VII, FF X, FF VII - Dirge of Cerberus.
FF X 2 was... I dunno whether I liked it or not

Can't remember any of the rest >.<

Lol, I just ripped them from the game, because I didn't feel like doing all of the other shit needed to unlock 'em ...

At any rate, when FFX was released, there was no happy kiss kiss ending, and nobody on Earth could've foresaw the "extra" endings that Square Enix was constructing for a "future" a game to be released in the "future," so I don't think that that is relevant to the current argument.

It is neat though.

And yes, I figured he was going to disappear, because Auron pretty much and quite blatantly told him that he would, after they defeated Jecht and Sin. So I knew it was gonna happen, but not the way it did.
Title: Re: favourite Final Fantasy game
Post by: Blizzard on June 20, 2009, 12:38:15 pm
I also think that FFX has almost no emotion. I'm not expecting a happy-end-kiss-kiss story, but was there EVER an FF where in the end everybody died? Was there ever a tragic ending? No. I don't remember any. The stories of later FF games are just too predictable. Sure FF7, FF8, FF9 were all nice, but they were all going towards a predictable pattern already. And FFX was the peak of emotionless bad acting. Really, the game seems to me like a bad movie and most actors couldn't act. The characters are boring, one-sided without any depth.
Take Seymour for example. He wants to be a god. Why? "BECUZ I'M EVIL, LOLZ" Seriously, he a total wuss. Sephiroth (even though he's a cheap ripoff of Kekfa) at least was freaking pissed that he was just genetically engineered and went berserk. What does Seymour have? Nothing. Kuja had become incredibly strong only to escape his own fate and to deny his destiny. Heck, that guy was running away from something. Many people can relate to that. What does Seymour have? Yeah, he's a politician, who cares.
Another example is Tidus. He's a freaking child. He's a totally pure pure of pureness hero without even the trace of a sin. That's boring. You don't become like Tidus when you have problems with your father. There is a complete personality mismatch and the character makes logically no sense.
Yes, Lulu was emo. Just look at the clothes. :P And she was really annoying when acting like an emo. But other than that she was alright. At least a mature person.
Rikku was the complete opposite of Lulu, but only in personality. She sucked pretty much, yeah. She was like Tidus. Just a slightly little bit more of mischievous. But that's already it. Copy-paste personality + 5% playfulness. Also, "alchemy" exists since FF5. It's not new.
I agree on Auron and Kimhari, though. They had depth. They were no children.

I'm not talking about gameplay, I'm talking about story. Sure, gameplay is nice and all, but it all comes back to FF gameplay + 2 new features + 5 new minigames.

And Aeons are new? OMG, I had no idea nobody ever, ever utilized a pet system where you could give your pets commands. Really.
It might be something new that you can control a summon directly, but that doesn't excuse all the other bad stuff.

I've played all except 3 and X-2 (I don't count XI here). I know what I'm talking about.

@impulszero: Oh, I didn't play FFXII much. I played only at a friend's place for a few hours. From what I saw, I liked it, though.

Eidolons, not Aeons. They were the FFIX "summons," and they played a fairly large part in the story (more than in VII, at least.) Summons were also pretty big in IV.
Title: Re: favourite Final Fantasy game
Post by: Calintz on June 20, 2009, 02:08:19 pm
Whoah!! How can you say there was no emotion, and that the characters had no depth!?

Depth
Spoiler: ShowHide
Yuna goes on the pilgrimage all the while knowing that she will be sacrificing her own life upon reaching the final Aeon!! The ENTIRE party leads Tidus on ... into believing that there is going be a "happy happy" ending once she reaches the final stage of her pilgrimage, and keep him in the dark about the true resolve of a Summoner's journey. Chalk one up for betrayal. A nice quality for any game to have.

Rikku is playful yes, but emotionless ... not so much!!
She risks her life time and time again in the attempt to kidnap Yuna in hopes of thwarting her own sacrifice. If you can call that emotionless ... I just don't know you anymore!! She is the member of a society that opposes every belief in regard to a Summoner's pilgrimage, and resides with Yuna's Uncle!! It isn't until Rikku explains the true situation to Tidus (WHILE THE AL BHED'S ENTIRE VILLAGE IS BLOWN TO PIECES BY THE GOVERNMENT) that Tidus begins to understand what is really going on ...

Sure, the scene in the icy forest where Yuna and Tidus makeout was a little too much, but it still depicted love ... the strongest of human emotion, and it was a very beautiful scene nonetheless. There is an abundance of emotion in FFX, and is was a great title released from Square Enix. It had all the qualities needed to succeed, and that is exactly what it did.

MYSTIC QUEST LOL

No way. Final Fantasy games are overrated, but I liked each game for certain aspects it had, not any particular one. The ones that stand out the most were II - VI in my opiion. After VI they started sucking. VII was pure crap, now that I compare it to other games in the series and the newer ones after that aren't anything special from what I've played of them. Final Fantasy lost that amazing touch when they hit 7, perhaps not being on NES/SNES made them less awesome.

DANCING MAD = OMFG GOD I COULD JIZZ.

Dio ... O.o you're weird, Lol ... you hate everything!!  :V:
VII was the greatest in the series most likely, because it zoned in and perfectly portrayed characters in a deep way(blizz'd favorite kind :naughty:)

I think people enjoyed it so much, because it was the first time a great RPG was released with characters that gamers could relate themselves to in one way or another.

Early FF games ... Hey, I'm a nobody who enters into a great journey of some sort and I kill shit!

The story was amazingly immense. You can't top a game where EVERY character has depth. It creates these points in the game where it all will converge leading to climaxes of epic proportion. FVII was the first to show this, and that is why it is so great, and many remember the game and relive the story.

I'm just shocked that you could play it and not like it actually.

The story in FFVII was very messy and ill-worked so it gave an ambiguous feeling that I've so often hailed as a prime example of it's immense story. I'd love expand, but it's much harder to pick out after not playing it for so long. Thing is, Cloud is a nobody realistically and is just caught up in Sephiroth's wake by circumstance. If you look at FF IV,  Cecil is very important as a captain of the Red Wings which are the main force behind Baron's conquest. Secondly, if you want intricate backgrounds, books are much better. I don't play games to learn about characters. Hell, Chrono Trigger is, in mine and many other's opinions, the best RPG in history and yet Chrono has almost no history despite being the main character. The gameplay was too easy in my opinion and the graphics in battles were horrible. I'd much rather play SNES grpahics than those horrible abominations. And it's far from perfect. It's rather cliche, with Cloud losing his memories and horrible enemy with monsterous power who's all about conquest. I will agree, it had a nice convergance, but the characters were annoying in my opinion and Cloud was a stupid dick who should have died. And if you can relate to RPG characters, find a new hobby.

I did play it and I did not like it after the second go through.

Agreed. About the graphics, I can understand them having to start somewhere, but they really should've just waited until they got the FF9 level, then switched to 3D. A theory my friend has (it makes sense, too) is that FFVII was so popular because of the anime-style graphics.

Also, WTF?!?!?!?!?! How can you NOT relate to the Orb Bearers?

BTW, my battery is at 69% right now.

You're trying to call the story messy, and you're implying that it's cliche!?

I can't follow you on these claims ...
The game is called Final Fantasy "SEVEN," so it obvious that there are going to be situations that may seem cliche, but in reality ... it falls on the game's developers to keep it from becoming cliche. I mean sure, it isn't like FFVII was the first game to introduce the memory loss situation, but it DID deliver it in the best ways that a game actually can.

By involving the memory loss tactic (which is why you think the story is messy when in fact, you just couldn't follow it very well) it allows the player to take control and make predictions while the game's plot falls delicately into place. This was, and still is a valid route to take during the planning stages of game creation. (Not the memory loss in general, but the opportunity to let the game piece itself together) When choosing this method, you allow room for constant suspense, which has the opportunity to explode into a climax far greater than that of any book you may read ... (explanation as to why you may get that "ambiguous" feeling you so often refer to)

I don't play games to relate, but I have many friends who enjoy placing themselves into the hero's shoes and wondering what they would do, or how some of their characteristics match, but that doesn't mean they need new hobbies (It's just you being an ass again).

The graphics were fine dude ...
They do have to start somewhere, and in my opinion, the battle graphics outclass chrono crusade's graphics by far.

Edit:
I have also played Chrono Crusade, but I never finished it. I became bored with it.
Title: Re: favourite Final Fantasy game
Post by: Diokatsu on June 20, 2009, 06:31:04 pm
Chrono Trigger lol...Chrono Cross would be the sequel that you ment probably. Chrono Crusade is an anime. XD I guess you must not read really good books, if you can't get a really exciting climax from them o.o XD And by saying: "delivered it in the best ways that a game possibly can" you're being way too fanboy-ish. I'm sure you and many others thought it was "best FF ever" but I found it sorely dissappointing for all of the aforementioned reasons. I found it cliche and the characters to be more annoying than endering and yet you've seemed to taken my opinion and become sorely offended by it. There's no way to prove that is was the best, but I can give lots of reasons why it wasn't my favorite nor even in my top 10 RPGs. You're trying to convince me that I'm wrong, but I never said I was right, I merely stated my opinion. Also, the graphics were not my cup of tea if you will. It's good though that you recognized that I was being an ass on your relating to characters oint. i don't see that as a big draw, but I guess you can do what you please :S

I'm going to try my best to explain something that really ticked me off in FFVII in regards to it's "memory loss" idea. First, it is cliche and I know you at least think it's been used quite freuqently, but I'm not always hateful of cliches as they can help a game and not hinder it in certain cases. However, memory loss is a plot device. The story designer just needs to use the amnesia plot device and, bam, he has a nice predefined plot in the making. It's an easy way to create ambiguity and allow for a seemly complex plot to develop just by, poof, zapping someone's memories. The only reason it felt complex to me at first was because I knew absolutely nothing beforehand., so anything they did give me for info was obviously going to seem like such a cool twist when in reality it's just all part of the original plot they devised. when it comes to writing, shortcuts like that piss me off. It's one thing to have a certain character who isn't the CENTRAL FIGURE have some sort of amnesia, but the main character is a cheap and lame-ass way to develope plots into something "better" truth is, if info wasn't given to you in the manner it was, the game would be any good at all in comparision to the ridiculous praise it gets now. It's plot was mediocre at best with out that device and only pushes itself to the top through the shoddy use of an overused plot device.

Also, don't start getting mad at me for the above rant. I'm not insulting you, I'm insulting the FFVII team for it's, in my opinion, undeserved reputation. I don't care if you disagree with me on how cheap the amnesia "card" is, but feel free to say whatever you want I suppose in return. If you start attacking me I'm not going to be posting.

Nah I'm done ... so call it whatever.
I didn't say it was my favorite ... I clearly stated earlier in this thread that FFX was ...

You're not even willing to accept it as good, so I'm not gonna try. You're a closed book on the subject, so it's pointless to try to help you see that it had its good points. Maybe particular aspects of the game don't pass by YOUR standards, but it gained its fame and glory because it IS an amazing game ...

Popularity proves it, and none of your fancy words or carefully thought out explanations can change that. (no matter how hard you try).

popularity doesn't prove crap. I believe everyone on this forum has stated that something can be terrible and still somehow be popular. Anyway, I'm not sayin FFVII is bad; I've never played it myself. but I do find it always ridiculous to point out popularity as a point. from either side. as I said, popularity doesn't prove crap. it doesn't prove that something is good, but it doesn't prove that it's bad, either. I'm actually seeing evidence of people int he media putting more effort into Some stuff.

Because popular things are always good. *cough*Nazi Regime*cough*

Popularity proves nothing except a large portion of people thought it was sooooooooooo good. What's wrong with me thinking it's not good? How is it possible to make me change my mind on such a trivial issue? You critisize me despite my solid defence of my point only by saying two things: "You're wrong because it's a great game" and "other people like it so you're wrong". I find both those quite obnoxious. I'll sum my opinion, yes opinion, up for you: I thought it was a playable game with no real strong points compared to the other earlier Final Fantasies and it's my opinion that it is complete overrated and doesn't deserve it's rep.

Sorry that I don't agree with the masses. I didn't think that popularity was the final judge for everything. Despite what democracy brings us up to believe, the majority isn't always right and it's important to take what ever opinion you truly have, lest you fall into blindly following a cause. Sorry I can't see what everyone else saw, but I love the way you grazed by my counterarguements and called me a closed book. Nice arrogance. And I'm the younger one.

Again with your carefully thought out explanation that means absolutely nothing. I didn't criticize you one time. Go ahead and think that if it will help you sleep at night. I never said you had to agree with my points. You are flaring back and trying to prove that it's a bad game. Not to me, but by stating the reasons you don't with all your fancy ordering of words. You give only reasons why it was bad, which forces me to respond with why it was good.

The mass popularity proves that it is a good game. NOT BY YOUR STANDARDS SO WHAT!? You say I speak obnoxiously when you're an obnoxious person ... as proved not only by your posts here on Chaos Project, but by our one on one conversation where you blatantly stated that you act meanly for no reason. So who cares what either of our opinions are, if the game wasn't good ... it wouldn't have sold.

You gave reasons why it was good in response to me saying I didn't like it first off. Seond, I never attack you I attacked the game and then you flared back and called me wrong, when I never said I was right. And Third, I'm not using fancy order of words, I'm just trying to lay out my ideas so that they actually make sense.

Also, I didn't call you obnoxious, I called your arguements obnoxious. For one, it doesn't make any difference to me how much it sold, I still don't think it's good. That's quite obnoxious considering it doesn't make a game good by selling. If I don't think the game is good in the first place, why would I be impressed by the number of sales it has?

Right there are two pieces of proof that I didn't open saying that you didn't like it. I said simply that it surprised me that you didn't like. I did not use that as a reason as to why it was either good or bad.

Final Fantasy has always been my favourite as i have played all the FF games and its just the one i liked best

Even tho FF7 is my favourite is doesnt have my favourite villian in my favourite villain is Vayne solidor from FFXII

I just thought he looked cool.

FFX was not really one of the best they done but its was a good one. it had a unique storyline.

In the other FF game the last main evil or boss was something fantasy when in FFX it was a really big monster(The monster background was fantasy but the monster wasnt too fantasy)

FF9 is AWESOME! has to be my second favourite FF8 i really dontlike as much as the others

X-2 annoyed me I really didn't like that one it was just the storyline and how a secret ending brought tidus back. I reckon they should of left us hanging at the end of FFX

But now FF13 is on its way and should be out sometime september and they have already announced FF14 as an MMO for the PS3 and the PC so I am looking forward to those games

I am at the final areas for both, and I'm ready for the final fight, but I quit playing them.

I don't know why I do that ... I have done it with several RPGs. I even did it with MagnaCarta, but the ending was causing too much curiosity for me not to beat it, Lol.

Tactics <3 Advanced and A2 had some improvements but I miss fighting with a chocobo. Also, Tactics was dozens of times more mature, made for a much better game.

Out of the traditionals I'd have to say IX- as I've only really played IX and VII (well, I played VIII but my copy broke after you got in the sub). VII has terribly broken gameplay- there is some level of strategy, but it's thin. The basic attack function easily becomes more useful than magic (by Disc 3 I did 9999 per attack, and 2000 with summons... I was what, level 40? Oh, and 10 years old too) and once you get Knights of the Round, you quite literally have the time to make a sandwich. The animation is long enough for you to go downstairs and get food. Plus, since most weapon strategies involve casting mimic on it a whole bunch, you could actually watch a TV show while flipping between Knights of the Round and commercial breaks. And you'd still beat Ruby Weapon. Also, the characters were way more lovable in IX, everyone could become broken so you could play as anyone with an equal level of WTFISTHISHORSESHIT, all the classes were different so characters had different purposes, and IRON MAN THONG. Hell, that wins gaming period.

Fixed xD

I liked the battles, active time (or something like that) class changing was cool, especially once you found the better classes, like dark knight, etc, and then the 3 transformation thingys, forget what there called, but 2 of the girls would run off screen and the remaining would change into something, like Yuna into a flower thing , Pain into the sword thing and Rikku into Machina Maw, only name I could remember :D I thionk I used Pain and Rikku's more than Yuna's though.
There wasn't much story-wise though.
Spoiler: ShowHide
Almost everyone starting to use machina again, something about new Yevon, the Dark Aeons coming from the big holes in the temples along with fiends, then the sphere that showed someone who looked like Tidus, Shuyin, I think and then Yuna with her Singer job that Lenne possessed... or something like that

It was alright, wasn't the worst game.

Eidolons, not Aeons. They were the FFIX "summons," and they played a fairly large part in the story (more than in VII, at least.) Summons were also pretty big in IV.

I was talking about X, not IX. And summons were also a major part in VI (Phantom Beasts).

@Calintz: The characters were generic, foreseeable and there were as good as no surprises. You could see from the beginning of the game that Seymour will be the villain. In every almost every newer FF game there are N characters and one of them is the villain. Since N-M are in your party, the rest is either neutral or villain. Because there needs to be at least 1 neutral and 1 bad guy. That leaves M-2 characters so your imagination. Mostly those M-2 characters are very clearly split into neutrals and henchmen so you pretty much know who is who. So much to surprises. FFX is not "good", it's commercial, it's generic. It was made to make money not to entertain. Older FF games had still a feel of wanting to entertain. Even FFXII has this commercial-advertising feel about it.
In FFX I see Hollywood, not emotion. They give you exactly what you WANT to see: Act. Bad act on top. Until FFX I had no idea it was possible to make game characters look fake and forced.

@Dio: IMO 7, 8 and 9 were alright. Nothing special, but a nice play nether than less. Sure, the older ones were awesome, especially 6. I mean Kefka had so much emotion and motivation. That crazy lunatic. I didn't expect him to turn so rashly against his king (or emperor, I forgot). I was like "WTF?! WTF just happened?! OMG! That son of a bitch!" I really WANTED to stop Kekfa while playing that game.
I don't think not being NES/SNES is the problem. The problem is that they started concentrating on nice graphics and inventing all kind of bullshit battle systems to keep the players entertained rather than sticking to the game feeling, character depth and story. Even the story wasn't all that good in all FF games. It were the characters. That's what I loved in 6 as well. It did have a shitload of main characters, but they were all unique. Every one of them had something. True, with so many characters it's hard to achieve depth. And they don't have that much depth. But since there are so many of them and every one of them being somehow special, depth was created on a much more interesting level. It turned into a social level. Rather than having something like a few characters with depth, the game had a small society that seemed somewhat real.

I agree that 7, 8 and 9 had depth, but not close as much as 6. I liked 8 and 9 a lot, but again... In 8 most characters were kinda cold. But still was Squall able to fall in love with Rinoa and I loved the scenes where he would think about stuff and doubt. He was a very deep character. Rinoa on the other side wasn't that deep. She wasn't so shallow, but some more depth wouldn't have been bad either. In 9 the characters are already getting too shallow, but at least they had emotion and motivation. Zidane really enjoyed pissing Steiner off and Steiner would always react with so much emotion.

A little bit too harsh IMO. But I agree that Cloud could have been a much better character. At least he had somewhat of determination. And that's all it takes to breed 100 million fanboys worldwide. Why? Cloud was like everybody else (so any idiot can relate to him) except that he was just a little bit better. And that obviously caused an obsession world-wide.

I don't play games to relate, but I have many friends who enjoy placing themselves into the hero's shoes and wondering what they would do, or how some of their characteristics match, but that doesn't mean they need new hobbies (It's just you being an ass again).

What I just said.

Ok, I just noticed there are two more pages of posts. o.o; I am spoilering the opinion part. Read if you want, don't reply, this matter is "solved".

The graphics were fine dude ...

He didn't rant about BAD graphics, he ranted about how graphics became more important than anything else. Face it. Bad graphics don't sell anymore on a large scale. Ask any "gamer" out there what they think of my game. They will say it's crap. "Why? Because it sucks. Why? Because it's not even 3D." We're getting closer here.

And Chrono Cross was so lame. The entire game feels like you are actually away from the events that are important. As if the game is taking place somewhere else and you are simply not there.

Summary: Dio and Ulta have valid points. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good. Britney Spears was popular. Pop music is popular. It's for the masses, it's commercial. Just like FFX was. It's Hollywood.
Ok, Calintz, it's your favorite game and that's nice. But it's WRONG FROM YOU to try to PROVE US it's a GOOD GAME. Being your favorite doesn't make it a good game. Being any game my favorite doesn't make it a good game. Being any game Dio's favorite doesn't make it a good game. We were just handing out valid points why we didn't like yours and then you kept defending yours rather than saying a single thing about our games. You still haven't said anything relevant about older FFs. But ok, let's rest this case.

Hm. I probably should have seen this coming. It's not the first time people defending FFX and being defensive. I would have forbidden "What's your favorite FF" threads, but as you all seemed to have gotten a hold of yourself, this thread can stay.

I unfortunately never got to play KHI. though I want to. I don't think it's so much a 'spin off' of Final Fantasy, as it is a combination between disney and Square. and Square being Square, FF got tossed in as well.

KH I & II were, and still are, some of my favourite games. KH II kicked ass, so did KH I. I'm just waiting for KH: 358/2 Days now. Played chain of memories but never finished it for some reason :???:

Anyway that's going a little off topic isn't it?

Yes. But before we change back, Birth by Sleep is going to be better, just because Xehanort is infinitely better than Xemnas.

I didn't like FFX at all. The characters were shallow (absolutely no depth) and generic and the story was a ripoff from FF6 and FF7.

I don't know about that. I thought FFX's story was quite a departure from the previous four games. There's no real "villain" to speak of (Seymour is more of an obstacle than anything else), it was the first FF to really tackle religion, and the goal and general pacing were nothing like those of VI or VII.

Final Fantasy V is one of my favourites. The storyline is a nice mix of comedy and drama (personified by its comically evil villain) and in terms of gameplay I still maintain that it's the most fun game to play through in the series.

There aren't really any that I don't like, truth be told. As revolutionary as it was, Final Fantasy II's growth system was horribly flawed, but the game is a lot more playable on the GBA and PSP. I've also never really been much of an FFIV fan. I like the characters, but you don't even get to use all of them at the end of the game (fixed for FFIVA, removed from FFIVDS...), and there's no real growth or ability system to speak of. Characters are very one-dimensional in battle, and while the storyline's alright, I still think it's poorly presented by today's standards.

I liked FFX's Story. But C'mon one can only handle so many freaking cutscenes. Its more of a freakin movie then a game. If I wanted to watch a movie I would have went to the theaters.

Final Fantasy VIII is my top favorite one. Then FFVII is my 2nd favorite. 3rd is IX but the one I enjoyed most was 5. I enjoyed the gameplay and features of it. I didnt care for the story that much but it had great gameplay

In terms of FF games, I think that Final Fantasy... the one with the green haired magic girl (which still describes two of them xD)... umm... VI was really good. I haven't beaten it yet, but I like it a lot. Final Fantasy VII, on the other hand, is horribly overrated. It was good, but it's not as good as everyone keeps saying it is. I thought X had a decent plot, but the (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU8-e-C4Uy0) voices (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBHIgh3MEJU)? Belch. That's hideous. And as for X-2... well... I suppose they had to keep the art guys happy...

To be slightly off topic, I'd like to point out that you never want to try Metal Gear Solid out. Good plot, but I watched an LP of the game, had a nosebleed during a cutscene (a long nosebleed, average length cutscene), came back in, and the cutscene hadn't ended yet. That's scary.
