Title: [GM7] Blue Box Adventures
Post by: G_G on June 29, 2009, 06:54:32 pm
This is just a side project I work on now and then when I get stuck with my main projects.
Main projects include
(Scripting)
(Fable Like Game)
(Digital Battles type game)

Its a small platformer game made in Game maker 7. Heres a video preview of the first three levels.
Yes the cartoony graphics are cartoony for a reason.

There's no story whatsoever just the same basic thing like the original Mario. Just go through levels. Heres some information about my game

Blue Box Adventures

This is the game of Blue Box Adventures. The controls are below and below the controls is some info you might find helpful.

Controls:
Use <Left> and <Right> to move on the platforms.
Use <Up> to jump.
Use <Up> and <Down> to move up and down ladders.
Hold <Down> to duck.
Use <Space> to shoot fire out of your mouth if you have any.
Use F5 to save the game.
Use F6 to load the game.

Helpful Info:

Fireballs
To get fireballs you must eat peppers. To eat peppers simply move across one.
1 Pepper = 1 Fireball
There are also pink gems throughout the game that will give you three fireballs.
1 Pink Gem = 3 Fireballs
Remeber Space shoots.

Ducking
Ducking is really helpful and can save you. All you do is hold down the Down Arrow key.
Especially helpful when there are spikes on the ceiling or squeezing through tight cracks.

Thnx. I think I might release a demo when I get 8-10 levels done. I have 4 completely done. I have 3 already mapped out levels just need to test run it and add enemies then I'll probably make one more level and release a demo.

Any suggestions on how many levels I should make?

Just make sure each level has a good original spin to it. No boring usual gimmick of a platformer.

Once you realize you're actually getting repetitive with your level designs, then screw it, you're done. Delete any levels that seem to be worthless, etc.

Let's see what happens with this.

First level looked too much like the tutorial one given to you.

The other ones looked pretty okay, I guess. This is probably going to be one quick play. :P (Nothing extremely long like Super Mario Bros.)

The first one wont be there its going to be replaced. And it is the exact map from the tutorial just with peppers, and different enemies. The flying one wont be there either. Its going to be replaced with a red cartoonish flying square....xD

EDIT: Levels 5 and 6 are done

Please, PLEASE, make everything similar graphic styles.  The first level is fine, but the others clash so much.

the first level wont be there anymore. The graphics are going to be replaced so they match the third and second level.
