Title: The Merging of Tilesets...
Post by: Calintz on January 30, 2008, 04:12:18 pm
Is it really neccessary??
>> I'm hearing and seeing all the time, that people are merging 2, sometimes 3 of the Standard RTP's Tilesets together to make a "better" resource. Ladies and gentlemen...If Enterbrain wanted the tilesets to be joined, I'm sure they would have done that themselves, or had at least made their intent of evident, but I see no suh intent.

Blizzard once told me that having larger tilesets can make mapping more difficult, and less practical...Lol once he defined what exactly "practical" meant, I soon found out that he was correct!! I began taking 2hrs. sometime 3 to make a single map, not because of soley inexperience, but because I had to do exessive and uneccessary scrolling...

I believe that the addon of objects should be smiled upon as they will serve more purpose, but as for adding tilesets together >> shouldn't happen. The main use for merging tilesets would only serve to make the megring of maps in-game more noticable, however this can be done with simply autotiles and the trees...

I agree. I sometimes need some stuff like a couple of details from other maps, but I really rarely need merged tilesets.

>__>;; I too agree, It consumes too much time and, it would be sorta frustrating to have to edit them when one of the maps color quite doesn't fit with the other .___. The Objects are more useful than the walls.

I actually enjoy merging tilesets, but not to the extent that some do. I here some people merge 4-10 tilesets to make an "Ultimate" tileset but I find this rather pointless. I personally like to merge maybe the cliffs from the mountain tileset, along with the woods tileset, but nather much further than that.

yeah same two tilesets mostly for me and only to combine flowers though I just add my own autotiles and some flowers and trees not whole tileset, but even if I do have a massive tileset it doesn't take any longer to me >.> probably just because I can remember where everything is and scoll there really quick

Yeah, the max number of tilesets that I merge is 2, too.

I concur. Adding stuff is better than merging. And it becomes more easy with PS, Show grid, and snap to grid :D

I guess I'm in the minority for this one :P I like "ultimate" tilesets IF they're well organized. There's one out there (not Inq's, but I'm not naming who either) that would be cool if it were just organized better. There were a ton of duplicates and it was all random, and I spent a lot of time just scrolling and scrolling to find an object. Plus I like adding all the objects and just selecting 'use tileset' for the event image, it cuts down on the number of files in the characters folder.
