Okay right now I am using my laptop. I've tried everything on my other computer but ever since I installed this update and restarted it I got this message
"Unable to find BOOTMGR"
"Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart"
Something got erased on my computer but I want to know is it possible to fix it. I have an Emachines with Vista on it. I have the recovery disc.
I dont know how to activate that recovery disc though if its even possible. Please help!!!

Google ftw
1. Either google hates me
or
I dont google the right words
I'll see if this works aqua after the torrents done downloading. >_> then I need to find a blank disc (god please say I have one left)
you meant you don't have the disk that came with you comp? or is the os pirated in the firsts place? :naughty: either way you got lucky I once had a problem where the BCD file was corrupt or missing or something like that (that's the file that tell the comp where to find the OS.) I had to reformat in the end
I have the recovery disc 1 of 1 and when I put it in nothing happens at all.
Found a blank disc halleluja
EDIT: Okay the blank disc isnt working. I keep getting an error after I placed the files on it. I put it in my computer and I boot from the cd but it gets an error then restarts.
Can I boot from a memory stick?
*slaps G_G* google booting from a disk backa!

Need to press a key to boot to CD or DVD
Some bootable CD's such as the Microsoft Windows XP CD will actually prompt a user to press a key to boot from the CD. If no key is pressed then the computer will continue to boot normal and not load the CD. Make sure to pay close attention to the screen as the computer is starting and press a key if prompted.
when you comp's bios loads there will be something telling you to press F(#) for a boot menu then select the CD-DVD drive
I did then it said Windows Loading Files, error pops up then restarts
that's not caused by the disk.... and the torrented disk wont chance that... your screwed... call... call.. t-t-tech... s-su-suport!
dam I have Bluescreeaphobia I'm getting all stressed just thinking about your problem!
Okay found another blank cd and did it again this time it worked. Now I did what the site said and click Startup Repair but then it says Could not fix startup
and then closes. And there's no format hard drive function. >_> fuck....
Try installing GRUB, it's better than the Windows boot manager anyways. That's all that's missing, and since Microsoft apparently doesn't want to allow you to install it separately...
And if you don't know what "BOOTMNGR" is, it's the thin layer between the BIOS and and the Kernel (the OS core) that's launched after BIOS and allows you to choose between different versions of Windows.
did you try BOTH methods in the link aqua posted?
@ryex: yes I did niether of them worked
@WcW: where can I download grub? And do I put it on a disk? I cant google right now I gotta go
Two minutes Googling reveals that, unless you happen to feel like installing a version of Linux alongside Windows, it's rather complicated. Nevermind.
Err... Error you get when booting install CD pl0x?
I think that can be fixed like this:
1. Insert WinXP CD.
2. Run setup from CD.
3. When you get to the screen where it asks you whether you want to install windows or run the recovery console, run the recovery console.
4. In the command line enter "chkdsk C: /F /R". Let it finish (it will take a while).
5. Restart your PC and it should work again.
well unfortunatly that didnt work >_>
What we did is went down to best buy, got a new recovery cd for it, ran it, formatted my computer, reinstalled vista, and it works. Halleluja but fuck because I lost all my stuff. Dang it >:(
thats what I was trying to avoid, thanks everyone for trying to help me. I really appreciate it. I wish I would have been able to keep all my stuff though :(
