Title: Something I can't seem to get past
Post by: Fallen Angel X on October 07, 2009, 12:03:15 am
So, I decided I'm going to pursue programming along with psychiatry. In fact, I have always wanted to get into coding. However, whenever I attempt to try, I hit a nasty little roadblock. The main reason why I want to script is for self benefits. If there's something I need but it doesn't exist or I'm too lazy to look, I can make it myself. But here's the problem. There's already a great deal of scripts out there and so whenever I try to start, I realize it's already been made and all I'm really doing is wasting my time. And also, there isn't really anything in particular that I want to create. So I basically have no direction and no idea where to start. Help?

1. This: http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php?topic=57.0

2. It doesn't matter if a script exists already or not. If you think you can do it better or make a nicer interface, do it. You think there was no ABS already present when I started with Blizz-ABS? There were several of them already yet I made ym own anyway. If you can't get an original idea of your own, browse the database, find a script that you think you are able to make and start working.

Well, it's not a question of ability, rather, it's lack of creativity. Say I wanted an ABS, I don't necessarily have any concept of what I want per se. So if I were to create one, it would be very generic and not quite useful. It would be much more easier to grab an innovative script like BABS. It's more rather I need a direction for where I'm going.. but I think I might take a look at script requests.. I think that's the best place to start ._.

EDIT: Holy crap. Something just hit my mind. I'm going to create a system similar to Dark Cloud 2 in relation to weapon synthesis.. But I have to plot out how I'll get around to doing it... advice?

When I plan to do something, I usually just try to think of what qualities I'd really want it to have - for example, what would make it less annoying and more interesting for the user. Then I try to make a system that fits around all the ideals, and if it doesn't fit them right, I fix it. For internals, I try to just eliminate factors that will leave it imbalanced/etc before I start.

Oh no, I have the qualities figured out with this one. What I meant to ask for is how should I go about doing this said project? This would be my first actual attempt at scripting so I'm rather clueless. But I don't think this is the proper place to be asking that though. What board would this fall under? o.o;
