With my first post being a request for help. Felt a little bit rude to do that without introducing myself.
So. I've lurked here a bit in the past and have been generally impressed by the things I've found. I've been using RMXP for a while now; a year or two I would say. Though I've never picked up scripting fully, I do tend to learn slowly as I go. For the most part I'm pretty self-sufficient in modifying scripts to my need. Ryex's CMS proved to be an insurmountable crux for me. While this frustrated me, it did serve to keep my feet on the ground. There's still a lot to learn and I don't even know half of it yet. And kudos for stumping me, Ryex. Admittedly it isn't hard, but nonetheless.
Though I'm sure I seemed like a bit of a programming noob with my help request, I assure you, this is far from the truth. I haven't used it in years, I was at one time quite capable with Java. I'm hoping that the fact that Java is an object-oriented language as well will aid me in learning more about RGSS. As a side-note, I'm a worse spriter-nay, artist in general-than I am a scripter.
I probably also come off as a "grammar nazi." Well, I prefer to take my time to type everything out with explicit detail and a plethora of big words, but what the heck? It's the Internet. It's all about freedom and convenience and everyone has the right to exercise that as they please.
And now I'm rambling, so without further ado, the obligatory "tl;dr" version: Hello, I'm an RGSS noob, not a programming noob, and I'm here to absorb some knowledge and hopefully give back at some point. And I type really well.

I must say, everyone and everything here seems rather pleasant. Well, except for some topics in the debate section, but that's to be expected I suppose. Regardless, a rare state of being on these Internets. I am happily surprised.
Welcome! Java is very good preparation for RGSS. RGSS is more or less Java without a lot of the syntax rules.
The debate section exists as both a philosophical exchange and an emotional outlet. We don't let it affect opinions of other members on this site (well, most of us). ;)
I have noticed a great deal of similarities already, method definitions in particular. In fact, as I look at it, RGSS seems easier to me than Java. It's just that, well, I don't know RGSS yet. So I suppose time will tell on that matter. Less syntax rules sounds good. Java's were murderous when it came time to compile.
That's good to know. Comforting, to say the least, that not everyone will hate me if I give a radical viewpoint or some such thing.

Oddly enough my manner of speech seems to be more at home on the Internet than in real life. It gets me some strange looks at times. Must be the tone of voice. I'm actually feeling right at home here; I haven't received a poorly worded or formatted response yet. Another pleasant surprise.

Just kidding. :P Welcome to Chaos Project, I hope you enjoy it here. With your grammar Nazi skills, I'm sure you'd be a great addition to any RPG Maker Team. (there are a disturbingly high amount of games who's grammar is nearly as bad as my first sentence in this post) Also, I wish ya luck with RGSS, it can be hard to figure out.
Oh, I doubt I could offer much more to a team than proof-reading. No one needs me to do that. But that's why I'm here; to learn useful things that may enable me to help out. There's no doubt in my mind that learning RGSS is going to take some time and effort. Fortunately, I see many skillful individuals such as yourself whom I hope can help point me in the right direction.
I'm certainly doing a lot of thanking today, though I don't count it as a bad thing. Therefore, thank you for the welcome.

You'd be surprised. Proof readers are pretty valuable, as they help the product feel more professional. But that's a good way to look at things. Just learn more and more, because after all, you can't ever be TOO useful.
Welcome! as for you learning RGSS Java is about as good a peperation for RGSS as you can find.
the real difficulty in programing is learning to translate what you want to do into workable and organized code, it is the most important part and it is never taught in tutorials. and as you have used Java and that part is pretty universal to all OOP languages you well off already.

Haha, "Ophi" is my nickname everywhere, so that's perfectly fine with me.
I certainly wouldn't be against proof-reading for someone. Since that doesn't require me typing the material, hopefully I wouldn't make silly typos such at the one graciously pointed out (not sarcasm, Aqua, thanks).
