Title: Google Wave
Post by: winkio on December 03, 2009, 10:08:32 am
Beta is out, most of my friends have it, but nobody that I know actually uses it yet.  It has pretty awesome features though.

A collegue at work / college was so annoying with it and he's such a Linux fanboy that I started to hate Google Wave.

No offense, but you're just proving that your opinions are underbaked. Just because an idiot likes something doesn't mean it's not good. See, for example, sex.

What opinion? I said that I hate it, not that it's not good. Stop putting words in my mouth.
Well, hate is a strong word, I'm just annoyed by it.

Google gave me google wave (I applied to be in the beta, and they accepted me)....but I'm not quite sure what it's supposed to do. Anyone know how to describe it very briefly?

Think of it as a replacement for online communication.  Instead of sending emails, IMs, twitters, etc. Waves can be used for each of these purposes.  Also, you can use Wave as a platform for multiperson interaction such as collaborative documents, games, etc.

So is it sort of like a forum?

it is a forum, IRC, wiki combo
but WAY better because it is live and dynamic.

A wiki is probably the best way to think about it.

It's probably much better than Microsoft Sharepoint. SP is so confusing at times. #_#

I got an invite too. I never really used e-mail much so I don't know, but this friend I have works in an organization where he needs to keep in touch with a lot of people and moving documents around. He's online almost 24/7. He says he loves it, so I guess it must be awesome. BTW, the guy uses Google Docs for exchanging CVs o_o

Plus, this is "public" in that they don't have to install anything or configure anything. It's like joining an e-mail conversation, but it's a full document and conversation system.

Hey this is pretty cool. Kind of "unnecessary" but I mean i think it might be more useful the more I understand about it.
