I think it's just a mixture of mutation of genes and a bad nurture xD

I died a little when I saw that hideous visage of hers on the cover of Cosmo.  Nevermind why I pay attention to Cosmo, its just I'm used to grabbing my TIME, Newsweek and Economist from the checkout line and I look over at Cosmo to see the refreshing image of beauty (read: hotness) and I see...that...  Of course, I never paid much attention to her anyway, so maybe its just a bad first impression.

And don't get me wrong, she's got a pretty voice, but there's nothing really new or unique about her music as far as I'm concerned.  Just another cookie-cutter pop artist with questionable fashion sense.

It's hard to say who is really doing this. Gaga or image makers. and it doesn't really matter. She makes millions of dollars.

The Britney Spears of electronic music. IMO she's really trying too hard to be different than everybody else. And you can see when somebody's just trying to be different and actually isn't. It doesn't look natural and I have an eye for that kind of stuff. Especially on women.

Of course it's natural, Blizz. We literally can't do anything that is not natural.

It's not normal... but, it is natural.
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: Blizzard on March 25, 2010, 07:13:06 am
Natural means that you're doing something because you're fond of it or you're acting in a specific way because you always act like that. She's just a fake, putting up nothing more than a weak act enough to fool 50% of the population. When you fake it, when you just act, then it's not natural.
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: RoseSkye on March 26, 2010, 05:55:06 am
I always thought natural was: being in accordance with or determined by nature
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: Blizzard on March 26, 2010, 06:00:21 am
That's partially true. Unlike animals humans can alter their behavior so something "determined by nature" in the first place is being altered to such a degree that the alltered something to always have been "determined by nature" in the first place.

What I'm saying is you're saying that she is doing something is unnatural...
I.E. supernatural, paranormal, spiritual, etc.

If Nature can encompass it, it is natural. Would what Gaga does be normal? No... but, it will be natural.
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: Blizzard on March 27, 2010, 10:20:48 am
If it's altered, it's not natural anymore and it can't become natural again. It's altered from natural, it's unnatural. You'd have to return it to its original state for it to be natural again, but that's impossible. And normal isn't the same as natural. Example: Today pre-marriage sex is normal. 100 years ago it wasn't. None of those two is actually natural. Technically humans can have kids with the age of 14 and in some cases even less. We just don't do it because of social rules and limitations and because of psychological immaturity at that age.

Biased. I don't think it's weak.

If you don't like her, don't post in this thread. The fuck is wrong with everyone? Ridiculous. It's an opinion that suddenly caused 17 post almost entirely made up of debate? Get the fuck out everyone. Locked.

Making statements and trying to pull them through as facts IS asking for opinions. And not just opinions, it's asking for UNWANTED and DIFFERENT opinions than the original statement.

I thought more people would talk about her music, consider she does write all of it herself. Even 4chan's /mu/ board likes her, I didn't think CP wouldn't.
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: Blizzard on March 28, 2010, 11:35:54 am
You could have hinted that this is the direction you were going into in your first post. xD

It's just too commercial for me personally. Though it's nice that in these times at least SOMEBODY writes their own music.

Now that we have directed the thread in the proper direction, are you going to unlock it again?
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: Diokatsu on March 28, 2010, 12:35:10 pm
Yes.

Well, I enjoy it. It's not anything super innovative or really genre defining, but it's fun, interesting for pop music, and quite dancable.

Opinions?
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: Subsonic_Noise on March 28, 2010, 01:20:19 pm
Well, it certainly isn't bad, not my kind of music, but it doesn't hurt my ears (some kinds of pop do, though).

While it's good that she writes her own songs, I think it's sad that this has to be concidered something special today... but it's a fact that most pop "artists" today are completely produced, in terms of beats and lyrics, so I respect her for writing her own lyrics (I doubt she does the beats)
And yes, it most certainly is danceable, but so are many other artists. I myself like Daft Punk for that matter.
[size4pt]I even attempted to dance to venetian snares once and miserably failed.[/size]

She's classically trained, so I'm pretty sure she writes all her music, does the beats, ect.

If she does, I respect her even more. That's really unusual.

Anyways, I don't get why everybody has to hate her. I normally chose to ignore musicians I don't like and even if you do otherwise, I'd concider "hate" a pretty strong feeling for something as trivial as pop music.
Title: Re: Lady Gaga
Post by: Blizzard on March 28, 2010, 04:06:50 pm
I just don't like her, I don't hate her. xD
But I agree. It's probably the global stupification (Idiocracy anyone?). People can't recognize decent or good stuff anymore. I mean look what bullshit sells today. *lowers head in sadness* As I said, it's good to see that there at least some people that aren't puppets or artificially created by labels/media/whatever.

(jumping in for some reason)

I personally just don't like her music. I don't really know much about Lady Gaga, so nothing is putting a bias against her music for me. I don't even know what she looks like (I don't feel like google imaging her, since I don't really care :P). I try to take people's work as it is, without factoring in details about the person who made it. I find Poker Face kind of catchy, but after hearing it once the song is just...annoying. That's how most of her music is to me. Catchy, good the first time, but it gets old fast.

Though I think that if what you guys said above (her writing her lyrics and music and stuff) is true, that's pretty cool. It bothers me that most pop idols don't really do much of their work. And even though I don't like her music, I give her kudos for producing her own work.

After seeing two of my favourite musicians do a cover of a lady gaga song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vEStDd6HVY&feature=PlayList&p=DE53A978215C0424&playnext_from=PL), I actually checked out her music, and I must say, while I still don't like it,
it's not half as bad as I rembered it to be. Or I just heard the wrong songs before.
I still must say that Pomplamoose improved that song alot.

To be honest, Telephone is a really bad example of creativity. Not saying it's a really bad song, but it's quite typical sounding.

I never said I only listened to that song. It was just the song that band covered.

I actually like some of her songs.
LoveGame - Ok
Telephone - Horrible
Bad Romance - Ok
Alejandro - Awesome

To name a few.

I think they are creative, except Alejandro, for some reason every time I hear that one I think of my best friend which makes me like it.
And no, my best friend's name is not Alejandro or anything close.
