Hey! I'm Boredom, The Niche as soon as I figure out how to change my username, but anyway.
Pokemon: Elemental War III
Don't get confused by the title. This'll be the first title in the series, if series it will be. The three is just representative of the fact that it is the third Elemental War.
Background:
Three years after Emerald, Archie had a sudden change of heart. No one is entirely sure what caused it. Archie figured out that there was only one person in the world who could stop him: Brendan. He waited until Brendan left Hoenn to visit his friends Dawn and Lucas in Sinnoh. Then he stormed Mt. Pyre in a wave of blue and seized the Blue Orb. However, he noticed that the Red Orb was already gone. In its place was a note from Maxie, scolding him for breaking his promise.
Kyogre was reluctant, but Archie had the Blue Orb, so she was forced to respond to him. The entire world was flooded as the skies opened up and cried out their sorrows. Maxie was caught and frozen, but he tricked Archie into freezing him together with the Red Orb. Groudon was imprisoned in the centre of the world, under a mountain of rock. However, Groudon was left with just enough power to keep the region where he was being kept above sea level.
Now, seventeen years later, there's only one region left above the watermark. This region is the house of Groudon, Plusia. Although it was never noticed before, it is now the congregation point for all the best trainers in the world. This is where the Earth revolution is based.
Plot:
Brendan's about twenty three years old and he needs a new pair of shoes rather badly. Where our story begins, he's meeting with Arceus at the very gates of heaven. Because life just isn't that easy, Arceus rejects him. Brendan and his torchic, Razablaze, are teleported to the inside of a pelipper, which takes them home.
They return home to the Millhead "mining" outpost, where the revolution is based, under the protection of Mt. Ares, Entei and Moltres. Brendan is greeted by the "hats", the leaders of the outpost, who Brendan despises with every fibre of his body. They order him to return a charizard to prof. Ash (yep. Ash.). When Brendan is there, he pits Razablaze against a pokemon that Ash discovered. While they're fighting, Brendan is suddenly kidnapped by the Water faction.
Razablaze is joined by Charzo, a child of Ash's charizard. The duo venture deeper into Mt. Ares where he meets Phloj, a cyndaquil who tells him that the kidnapper is long gone and guides them to Entei. There, Entei requests that they wake up Groudon and the world moves towards war once more...
Characters:
Brendan
Species: Human
Race: Hoenneese? I don't know.
Age: 33
Height: 6' 7"
Eyes: Purple
He really isn't that important
Razablaze
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/Tundratorchic.png)
Species: Torchic
Race: Tundra
Age: 15
Height: Small.
Eyes: Yellow.
Razablaze is our hero. He's full of himself and utterly insane. Brendan met him while exploring the tundra of Plusia. They've been friends ever since.
Charzo
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/Beachcharmander-1.png)
Species: Charmander
Race: Beach
Age: 13
Height: Small
Eyes: Turquoise
He's violent, approaching sadistic, but he's not in it for the killing, just the fighting. He's the clown of the bunch when he's not scratching the hell out of something and he's always willing to make someone smile. Or stop them smiling for good.
Mira
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/Swampmudkip.png)
Species: Mudkip
Race: Bog
Age: 14
Height: Small
Eyes: Blue
Mira is the shifty one in the crew. She's got a past that no one really wants to know about and she's perfectly willing to rob the entire crew blind. Except perhaps Razablaze, but she'd rather you didn't talk about that, ok?
Shellshock
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/Junglesquirtle.png)
Species: Squirtle
Race: Lake
Age: 15
Height: Small
Eyes: Green
Shellshock is extremely resourceful, if slightly reckless. She's committed to removing Kyogre's hold over water pokemon by any means necessary and if you think you can get in her way, I bid you good luck. She's more than capable of bringing out Charzo's soft side, which he consistently tells Razablaze he's not happy about.
And there you have it. The four most important characters and an extra one who I stuck in for the laugh.
EDIT: Because I'm nice, you guys get to learn about a few other characters.
Lucifer
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/Cavelucario.png)
Species: Riolu (Lucario)
Race: Cave
Height: Tall
Eyes: Yellow
Lucifer isn't someone you should piss off. He's one of two people who have ever managed to hold their own while fighting against Razablaze. When he isn't sticking the spikes on his hands into someone, he's usually drunk. Or with Tate, but when he's with her it's usually because she's beating him to a pulp without even blinking. ("Raz, my head hurts!" "That's what you get for having a psychic girlfriend,"

)
Tate
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/Lightmedicham.png)
Species: Meditite (Medicham)
Race: Dark
Height Medium
Eyes: No one's sure, they're always closed.
Tate is the worst person in the world for mood swings. rub her up wrong way and she will first beat you to a fine gooey powder, then drive you insane WITH HER MIND!!
Features:
Blizz ABS (Sparkle sparkle!)
Blizz's bestiary and time system. I'm probably gonna add in some more scripts if I find ones that are useful. Or if I get a scripter.
F*ckloads of cool scripts that make it epic! I realise now that games are story driven.
Layered villains, for the first time ever in a pokemon game! Actually, I'm not too sure about fan games.
Pokemon becoming believable instead of the dumb animals they were previously!
Individual pokemon species have different races now, just like actual animals!
A few more pokemon, depending on how good at spriting I can get.
Edit: Systems:
Psionics system allows multiple solutions to puzzles and enemies.
Movement system allows for accessing areas through unconventional means (sliding on vines, anyone?)
Player owned house that can be used to endlessly customise the party, as well as train and several other niceties.
Right, well naturally, the game is way way away from its omega stage. Anyone who'd like to help, there's room enough for all of you! =)

Finally, I'd like to show you two of the new pokemon, cottofly and serpulus. It's typing is: sky. Serpulus is dragon.

Sayonara!
Most people wouldn't believe I'm saying this, but what he said ^. Critique me as much as you like and don't mind my feelings, because a) I don't have any and b) if I did, text on a screen written by people I've probably never met isn't going to hurt them. Do your best, people! :P
F*ckloads of cool scripts won't make a game epic, storyline and gameplay do.
The race, new pokemons and pokemon "believeability" things make me think this is a Pokemon game only by the name, the sprites and little by the storyline. But that's fine too.
Also the world map looks REALLY abstract :p
Summary: Bark >> Bite
Explanation: You talk a lot of stuff, but from the examples you provided (storyline, features, screenshots), you've shown very little skill/creativity.
Verdict: Mediocre

I see what you mean, actually. Just out of curiousity, is there an easier way to take screenshots ? (i.e. not print screen) Will upload some actual game screenshots when I get a chance.
I could draw up some concept art for the different species of Pokemon if you'd like ;)

THanks for the offer. I'm good for concepts on most of my new pocket monsters, but there's a few I need to work out. Pre-evolution and post-evo of absol is the most immediate one.
Oh yeah. I said up screenshots yesterday...oops. It's actually to do with a script problem. Anyone ever had problems with Game_actor and arguments?
it's script order or compatibility issues

Thanks. It's probably compatibility issues, but i'll try order as well. Watch this post for happiful news!
Happiful News: I'm working on it! In other news, I'm giving blizz-abs a try, to see if it's more compatible than XAS.
Happiful News: Is here! Blizz rocks!...Right, screenies.

^ oops. You can barely see Razablaze in that. Well go check his spritesheet (Original post) and use your imagination!
Sorry about the necropost if it is, but I figure the topic would be officially dead if it was. Sorry about the general lack of activity and all the rest of it, but I've been busy with school, social life, etc. Anyway, I've been working out some concept art. The three elemental teams (magma, aqua and the new one, aero) and the series villains. I shall upload the pics when I finish them.
Map wise, I've been working on the interior of Mt. Ares and the very first map. It's no longer just a panorama! I'm doing my best not to lose my patience with gimp and the new gold and silver sprites.
in the issues department, anyone ever had any problems with events not letting you take control again? I've tried switches, making it a paralell process, putting the whole thing in a conditional branch, using separate event pages, all the obvious stuff. Any suggestions?
Edit: I used another map, without an autorun event. That didn't work, so I managed to fix it by having the player move a square left, then recieve control.
Edit: Reworded original post to generally be better. Shall have a large amount of screenies in a minute or two, watch the original post.
I like this idea. I'm a big fan of the Pokemon series, and in fact, I've been designing a Pokemon game of my own for the last 5 years (on and off, of course). This seems really interesting, but I have to caution you against doing anything too extreme plot-wise. The Pokemon series kind of has a certain system to it, and not following it makes the game seem less like a "real" Pokemon game. Unless, of course, this is meant to be some kind of spin-off-type game, in which case you shouldn't use the regular Pokemon battle system.
Still, I really find this idea interesting, and I think it could make a good game. *levels*
You'd probably want those Pokemon sprites resized in proportion or something. Maybe 200% of its original size would do.
I can easily do this for you, if you'd like. Just give me a folder of all the Pokemon sprites you need resized, slap it in a Compressed Folder, and just send it to me...Wouldn't mind that.
For your message boxes, I personally find that although it's convenient to have multiple lines in one box, I think the whole concept of dialogue would be better if each separate entry was put in each separate message box...
For example:
Message Box: Arceus: Welcome to the heavens, Brendan.
Message Box: Brendan: Arceus? Figured you'd be bigger.
That way, you can add whatever stuff you want in between the two boxes and the flow won't be broken.
Update!!!
Been working on a few more maps. The swamp where the crew meet Mira being the most important. And an encounter with the series villains. Working out evolution sequences as well, but they're rather annoying.
--transmission terminated--
Not!
@lonely_cubone: I know what you mean, but I honestly find the pokemon games a bit too concept driven. Which is kinda funny 'cos this entire game came from the concept of a post-emerald dystopia (well, it was sapphire at the time, but I figured Emerald might suit it better). Yeah, it's gonna be fairly spinoffish.
@Starrodkirby: I think that before I do any serious resizing, I need to work out how much the sprites need to be resized. I did a resizing for the legendary dogs by 1.5 because 2 was too big, but they're still too one boxish. I think I agree with your idea about the one speaker a box thing, 'cos that way I can face the boxes if I want to.
It's nice to see comments flowing again, I thought everyone was ignoring me! Not really.
Completely off topic, I GOT A LITERARY AGENT!!! And I'm not even halfway through secondary school :D!

Go have OCD and arrange all the sprites in folders varying by size! :V:
(Though actually, that idea has merit)
Sounds like a lot of work. I shall have to look at size comparisons.
Edit: Had an interesting idea. After the credits roll,
kyogre and groudon will still be fighting, so I was thinking that I could occasionally reveal new areas depending on who's winning.
About what's in your spoiler:
Opening new areas after beating a game is always a good thing, and if you've got a story-related reason for these new areas, it's even better. You could make a couple of barren islands (with nothing but rock, since plants would take a while), and some new lakes or rivers or something, both of which can have Pokemon that can't be found anywhere else.
Cubone, I've said it before, I'll say it again. YOU ARE A GENIUS! *levels up cubone*
Kirby, I had a go at your suggestion and xp's text editor just makes it painful. An yes, I know about batch text.
Thanks, I'm glad I could help :^_^':. If you want some other ideas of that nature, I'd be happy to help out.
Niche, I'd suggest that you could use Pokemon Mystery Dungeon sprites for some of the pokemon, but then again you would probably be missing a few sprites like Arceus.
Some of the smaller pokemon sprites are fine as is, but like Starrodkirby86 said you could resize some of the sprites. The boxiness of the sprites can be really annoying sometimes though, I agree.

The Message System isn't that quite versatile, huh?
If you've made not that many message boxes yet, then yeah, this will be a good way to go. It's better to fix your problem now then let it grow into something even more laborious and boring.
Maybe copying all the text in Notepad, then rearranging it to separate entries from there would do.
If there's the whole issue with text cut-offs and stuff, the arrow on the Message Box entry should be safe point before it goes into the gutters. F2 does wonders as well. There's also some UMS's that auto-resize the Message Box Window to accommodate such long characters. ccoa's UMS is one of them.
Your spoiler is a great idea. Keep 'em coming.
Riku, good idea. I tried depixellating my entei and it just didn't work. I'll try and see if I can find a complete collection. Actually, I think there's some ranger sprites in different poses.
A long time afterwards...
My arm hurts and I'm only partway through the 2nd gen, but Riku, I LOVE YOU!
Double posts should be made after a 24-hour gap. Thanks! ~Love, Starrodkirby86
Yay! Glad I could help out! I've been all over looking for my own sprites so generally I know what games to borrow stuff from if one has need of such sprites
Riku, I got the ranger ones as well. If anyone needs sprite for blizz, http://www.spriters-resource.com/
Kirby:
WHAT?
Edit: Aside from the fact that I'm going to have to resprite all the sprites I've done so far *AND* redo my recolours, Riku, you are getting levelled up. I'm ow off to add some more characters to my original post.
Edit: Riku, your mission should you choose to accept it is to sprite...
Name: Boxsaw (my room mate dreamed this one up)
Size: 4/3 rtp
Appearance: it's a cube with angular legs and a single magnemite eye. It has a floppy aerial on its head and its left arm is a flamethrower. Its right arm is a claw. It doesn't have any distinctive features on its back. For colouring, it's fire and steel, so grey that's slightly red tinged would be good. If that doesn't work, just grey.
Oh and I'm adding a picture for Charzo.
Yeah, I can do that :D
If you don't mind its style being slightly different from the shading the RTP sprites have, then huzzah!
I still haven't managed to mimic that style with my shading and stuff so...yeah anyways, I will do your request :naughty: Not sure how long it'll take since i'm a distracted guy but i'll work on him a bit at a time
Is there a certain time you'd like him by?
No, whatever suits you. And I don't really mind about shading style, do it however you like (that's what she said ) Kirby, I'm giving the UMS a try. If this makes yet more work for me, I'm going to jump around and eat a chair. Understand?
Er...sure...
Always keep a backup in case something is damaged beyond repair.
Thanks for remining me!
Riku, how's the sprite coming?
Go check original post for a new pokermon!
Adorable. Looks like something I want to put in my bed. <:
Hehe, interesting. XD My only criticism would be to keep the shading style and the way it's sprited similar to the actual Pokemon sprites. That might be pretty difficult, so don't worry about it~
Isn't it gprgeous? That's the first scratch battler i've done. And I sprited it as well.
EDIT: Added cottofly's evolution, Serpulus.
Since when are Mudkip (pokemon names are both singular and plural :P) brown >:(?! THIS REALLY MAKES ME ANGRY!
Swamp mudkip. You didn't actually read it, did you?

Thought not. What do you think of cottofly and serpulus?
Kirby, could you please mount this:

Pelipper^
You did ask me :D
So, I really hate to be the one to say this,
but I don't like the battler sprite at all. While the ideas might be okay, they lack a real, defined shape and appropriate shading, this actually seems off in general. Like this, I wouldn't use them in any game, especially the 2nd and 3rd one, the first is acceptable at best. I'd suggest you either get a good spriter who is willing to do your pokemon sprites (those are rare) or that you go back and practise alot, start with editing some pokemon sprites and get used to the shading style. Don't feel bad if you don't like your fist attempts (though from what you wrote here, the problem seems quite the opposite), and if you want, you can post your sprites you did for practise here so the community can give feedback and help you improve.
And, very important, be your own worst critique.
One of the most dangerous things that can happen to any artist is that they can't see their own flaws.
I thought I should tell you before you get either bashed or trolled.
I expect many 15 year olds (hopefully not including the Niche) to level me down. For the record, my level was at 37 when I wrote this. Let's see what happens. : D
Thanks. I guess the problem with being immune to trolling is that you miss out on what's bad in your own work. I shall return to the garden of my ancestors and look for reasons not to commit hara kiri!

There is a thin line between trolling and critique.
No, actually, it's a thick line. Like, about 5 metres. That's actually and important thing to notice. Not everybody who says something negative about your work is trolling, and critique is actually one of the best things you can get.
I learned this the hard way, so I hope you don't have to.
Umm ok. Well, that was neither reason for or against. To the kiribrush!
Subsonic, just in case somebody'll level you down, what will probably happen, I'll level you up :P.
I wouldn't, anyway. Sub, does the shape look bad or is it just shading?
Quote from: The Niche on May 27, 2010, 04:54:08 am
I wouldn't, anyway. Sub, does the shape look bad or is it just shading?
The shape of the first one looks good, just might do some refining. The other two need work there, they don't really look three-dimensional to me, and I'd change the pose a bit, too. For reference, check the snake-like original pokemon. There are no real rules here (at least not any I know of), this is more a thing of experience. Either try around until it works or just copy the original's pose, there's nothing wrong with that. ^^
For the shading, keep in mind that the originals have a very simplistic, cell-shading-like shading. Yours there seems too "complicated", actually. xD Then just keep your lightsource and shape in mind and keep practising. xD
Right. Snake forms are actually quite annoying, so that's fairly helpful advice. I'll try experimenting with the originals. Do you think my recolours look ok?
They are technically good, but the choice of colours are weird in parts, especially on the mudkip. Also, I'd adjust the shading and tone of the one in your avatar, it currently somehow looks like you used the fill tool to me. But otherwise, yes, they're alright. ^^
I did. It's a recolour of the original sprite, so what's the point in manually redoing every pixel?
Shading. That is the point.
Ok. I did that quite a while ago, so I'll have to check if I actually did shade it or not.
Edit: (http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/Plusiakasne.png)
That's kasne. Comparing it to the battler I did for Charzo, I think I see what you mean.
Hullo! Just checkin' up on ya Niche. How's the project coming along so far?
It's going great. I'm redoing a few of my earlier bits to make the dialogue fit better and suchlike.
On another note, I had an idea while reading a tutorial on skillsets by brickroad (rmvxp.org)
Because it's almost impossible to avoid tiering, I'm gonna have four top-tier characters and they'll each rely on a couple of lower tier characters for something or other.
E.g.
Razablaze -- top tier skirmisher
needs Charzo to deal with distanced opponents.
needs Shellshock for defence.
needs someone elese, probably Lucifer for defence against skill users.
That's kinda what i'm doing with my own RPG, only I've a lot more allies to use.
They all have their own strengths and weaknesses, which make them priceless in some situations, and make ya wanna scream in others lol XDDD
Sounds like an awesome strategy! I think that's the way parties are supposed to be: specialized members that have to depend on one another
Yeah, true. Also, I do have more allies to use, it's just I'm not telling you about them.
On another note, has anyone ever had a problem where the game changes the player's hp all the time? I had an event to set the player's hp to 100 at the start of the game because for some reason, it was forcing a gameover whenever I had an empty party. Said event, I either deleted or it has been absorbed into the game, but whenever I change rooms, the player's hp goes to 100. for all the actors.
That's really weird. Could you have accidentally set up a weird common event that's doing that to you?
Is it MAX HP or just HP that's being set to 100?
and yay for secret party members :3
Hp. I'll check my common events.
Right, had another loopy idea!
---Engaging Awesome Flow---
I was thinking about having events based on the music.
For example, you walk into a bar and talk to this guy who gives
you the quest "The beast of pirate's bay" (anyone get where I'm
going with this?) The song of the same name by Voltaire starts
playing and when it gets to the conclusion of the song, it occurs
to Raz that someone who told them to stay away from the bay
actually is trying to protect something and you get an easier
ending to the quest (of course, you get a really shitty reward, but...)
---Cut Awesome Flow---
Idea time! While contemplating what is quite possibly a revolution in player owned houses, i stumbled on a way to avoid the hassle of programming every single poker as an ally. I'll give the first and second copies of the demo to whoever makes the closest or most entertaining guess about what it is.
You realized that trying to make nearly 500 pokemon is far too much for one single person snd therefore decided to replace every single pokemon in the game with shiny magikarps?
If this has custom pokemons and good not-crappy sprites, I'm gonna play this game and feature it on a mag.
Sub, you're completely wrong. My ambition knows no boundaries! However, at present, you're getting the first and second copy of the demo. Though, what I really mean is making a character for every poker. I shall allow more opportunity to let people guess, since I'ma too lazy to reveal it yet. (At this point, people should begin to think that I'm actually looking for inspiration...I mean..nothing. FORGET YOU EVER SAW THIS BRACKET!)
...So much for external inspiration.
Joking. The system is essentially a bestiary and you can add pokers as either pets or summons of one of the trainers you have in your party, probably Pearl or Platinum. On another note, I'm changing Brendan to Ruby since Ruby's a more developed character, meaning less work for me. Plus if I eventually decide not to kill Ruby, I can use his pokers as well. Sub, you get the first two copies of the demo! I'll probably post a tutorial on how to make the system when I've got it finished. Now for a map and screenshot!

Ktsuryen jungle
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy328/the_Niche/Pokemon%20Elemental%20War%20III/KtsuryenJunglescreenshot121610.jpg)
Raz, Charzo and Phloj (the cyndaquil) explore some ruins in Ktsuryen jungle.
Sorry about the look of the map shot, paint is pissing me off today.
I think it need not tree canopy to make it good.
Maybe you can make it rounded.
The ripped sprites do not look well but, GJ!
Thanks. Is the outline too strong?
Niche! You're back!
OT: More decoration? (E.g. plants, bushes)
Let me give you some hints to make the map look better:
1. Those autotiles you use for the treetops are bushes. ;) The best way too create lots of trees in a line is to start on the second layer. Place the lowest row of tiles. Build up by placing the next row above it, then the next one, until you've done them all. If a tile must go over another, only do that tile on the third layer, so you have more space. If it still doesn't fit, choose that tile as the graphic of an event (fourth layer). BTW, start from the top while doing this.
2. Those colors don't really go with each other. Maybe you should try to change the colors of those auto-tiles. Elseway, try to fit a pre-made jungle tileset for RMXP. I've seen one on RRR.
3. It's kinda hard too say... The map is empty... But it's also full. You are using too much of the same decoration. Try to put some bushes near the trees first. To make paths, use the dirt or shadow autotiles. Those logs, try to bring more difference and place them further away from each other. It would also look nicer if you place those tree bases next to one of the ends of the logs. Also, those trees. Try to place more of them near all the other trees (bushes).
4. The paths and the water... The paths, if they are nature-made keep them like they are now, but if they are man-made, make them more linear. The water is good but if you want to, you can make some small streams coming from it and use the logs as bridges.
I think that was it. Remember, these are only some hints. You don't have too use them, if you don't want to.
Last thing I want to say is good going, and gl.
I'm wondering why you decorated the middle of the lake. The player isn't going to see it anyways.
@Dely: Are those tilesets bushes? Wth? I've always used them as treetops too... *A while later* Well, I've tested it, and you can partially walk underneath them.
@Sase: Wow, you always see the smallest mistakes... You have an eye for it :P.
@Sase: I was thinking the same 0.0
@SBR: I've looked on google while making a reply, and saw them being used as bushes. Also tested myself with the bottom of the trees, and it just doesn't fit.
I've always used the "bush" autotile for creating treetops, and I'm happy with it. Looks much more natural than the 2D-ish other leaf roof.
The other '2D-ish' leaf roof is for further on the roof. So it's like: Grass (layer 1) | 'Bush' leaf roof (layer 3) | '2D-ish' leaf roof (layer 2)
Let the 'bush' leaf roof overlap the '2D-ish' leaf roof for 1 tile.
Um, I'm probably going to have a bit involving the centre of the lake. They go through the jungle on a suicidal mission into the middle of Water faction territory. Also, I kinda have to have some decoration there because there's going to be a cutscene involving shellshock in the center of the lake. I'm not sure what I shall do about the canopy tile but I'll definitely do something about it. Whatever about the decor, what do you guys think of the shape of the map (paths, etc).
Also, those leaf paths are natural indeed.
EDIT: I've been going through a big list of cliches and I've realised that I actually don't have quite a significant amount of them. Which was a nice egotip.
I'm such a double posting bastard! Anyway, I took a break from the project for a little bit there, have finished that for the minute. EWIII is now taking the front seat while my two other main projects are going to the back of my brain to fester.
Run into a slight problematic problem: When I damage some enemies to a certain point, they become invincible or rather, all my attacks keep missing. Does anyone have a solution to this problem, because I've solved it before and it is rather extremely annoying that I can't figure it out now.
EDIMOTHERFUCKINGDIT: Two rather interesting ideas:
A) Plants are also pokemon, some of which evolve occasionally. A few might attack you, some might give you their berries if you faithfully promise on yhour soul to spread them far and wide.
B) For comic relief, I'm going to have a sort of helper character who often shouts vileplume in the middle of his speeches.
EDIMOTHERFUCKINGDIT? What's an edidit?
OT: I like the plants idea! If idea B is worked out well, it's good! I guess...
It's phonetically better. Emotherfuckingdit just doesn't fit (drumbeat).
I was considering making humans pokemon too, since they quite obviously are, with some people, such as Red, being able to use moves.
The character who idea B is centred around is funniest if you imagine him with an american accent, I can't quite describe it.
Are humans pokemon too? Well, you got me, I didn't read your whole post...
Well, if you're going to have something replace animals, that same thing will have to replace the most intelligent animal on the planet (third if, like me, you're a douglas adamsist).
On another, slightly meaner note, please don't say anything if you're not going to read the full post, it's the second time you've done it to me.
I'm sorry, I might read it today :D.
Upperdate! I'm starting from scratch! If anyone has any suggestions, or other such thingermajigs, please do put them forward.
*pauses for Sub's inevitable complaint*
Personal opinion...
ABS is not the way to go for a Pokemon game, Lol.
Ugh, I am not going to make another turn based game, I fucking hate those.
...Wow, I seem to be the one that posts the most here :<_<:
Alright, just thought I'd put out a little update because Black and White have just been released. I'd like to inform you all that unless there is a mystery dungeon release with all the new pokemon, the black and white pokemon won't be appearing in this version. Though I may have some character who secretly is a zoroark bu- Nothing. You didn't see this, ok?
Edit: Did a frankensprite for Ruby.
<Mean Person Blizzard> Original rpg maker characters in a pokemon game? Fail. Now, I'm not a fan of pokemon, but its sorta weird seeing them in there. Sorry, this doesn't comply. :/
<Me> This looks pretty good. I do like the pokemon sprites. I really want to see some gameplay. This I gotta see xD.
(I was kidding Blizzard xD)
Actually I think it's better to make up your own pokemon if you make a pokemon game. xD Though, I think using an ABS for a pokemon game would be utterly pointless. The franchise just doesn't feel that way.
I just don't do turn based and as I've said before, this isn't a normal pokemon game with gyms and a pokedex and an evil team and a template plot.
Edit: Paralells h-sphere or whatever doesn't want me editing my original post, so here's the new Ruby:

Edidit: Working on Sapphire atm. I had a thought though. Too break up the boredom of idle time, I was thinking about putting in two voiceover characters to take on the role of voices in Raz's head. One: A newbie stalker who hasn't got a clue how to do his job. The other:A serial killer who is only really there to contradict the stalker.
Edididit: Ok, I recoloured my swamp mudkip, how's this look?
And marshtomp:
Merging two RTP battlers - succesful, done well, I just can't stand this anime big-eye style. The charset looks good, but in one frame of "heading up" sprite there is a white collar visible, while in three other it isn't. Just an inconsequence, both versions are OK.
Both Mudkip and Marshtomp are good, but probably too pixelized, I don;t know if they match the rest of the sprites.
The marshtomp looks really good, but I am not feeling the same for the swamp mudkip.
As for the sprite, it's good, but the shading could use work.
And the battler looks cool, too.
As for me, I love a pixelized look. As long as it has great shading, which marshtomp has.
I get so horny from PS1 game textures. :shifty:
Yeah, I think I see what you mean about the mudkip. I'm viewing it on the dark theme, so it makes it even more pronounced.
@Luke: Well done for spotting the collar error, I'll have to fix that. The pixelized thing tends to be how pokemon sprites are,it can get even more obvious than that depending on the shading.
Personally, I think it makes sense for the mudkip to be darker, since they're smaller and weaker and survive better if they're easily camouflaged. Unfortunately for Mira, her left thingy is bright blue because of an accident with a paint bucket :D
So I get to be the one to say this.. again. meh.
The recoloured sprite's shadng is faulty in multiple ways. First by being practically non-existant in both of them, especially the mudkip, and then the outlines don't look right, probably because they still have the blue tones in them they had before. You might wanna fix that, it really will annoy everybody who isn't partially colour blind. Also, you might wanna change the light green tone in the secon sprite, it doesn't really work for me.
As for the battler, they eyes don't fit. You should definitely look for other ones, it looks pretty deformed like thisif you ask me. Also, I don't know if this character is supposed to be femape or male, but while the battler looks a bit like a girl, the sprite doesn't, at all.
Also, what the fuck is up with the hands? They look far too big and deformed to fit the battler. Did you resize them? I see alot of faulty pixels there...
But seriouspy, I remember you claiming to be an artist. Shouldn't you see those flaws yourself? It's importand to see your own mistakes if you want to inprove. You should work on that.
The sprite for Ruby: I agree, the head is totally fucked up. I'm going to look for a better one. The hands, I just removed the mace and bible, so they're understandably fucked, especially the right one. I'm going to fix those, but Ruby isn't that important, so I'm not going to spend too much time on him.
The mudkip and marshtomp: Ok, the outline on the mudkip
needs to be changed. The blue tones as well, I'm thinking either darken them or make them brown, what do you think? I'm not sure what I can do about the shading though, since I seem to be getting two contradicting opinions from you and luke

I REALLY want to see what that looks like.
It'll look awesome, that's all I've decided so far. Subtino is going to look fairly musical, Borizzard will be Paedobear except icier, Rosash is grass/fire type.
If it's not a darkness pokemon using the colours black and red, I'll sue you. Also, it shoupd evolve from a magikarp-like pokemon.
Alternate evolution to magikarp, can only evolve if it's a shiny.
I'm fuckin rare.
you one of a kind sub, one of a kind.
Speaking of which, you, sub, blizz and rose are semi-legendary. Mainly because we just couldn't have multiple Blizzes, awesomeness would just get so boring :D
Ok, I'm almost at the demo stage! Maybe within a week?
