Title: Rithulian Pass RPG
Post by: Lobstrosity on May 26, 2010, 07:32:54 am
I am in the process of making a project called Rithulian Pass. I may or may not actually finish this project, but I'm making a start and so far its turning out alright! The game is set in a large world known as Rithulian and is set in Medieval times. It is based on a novel I wrote about four years ago and I always wanted to make a game of it, and found RMXP. So far I don't have much information on it, if it is a successful project, its going to take a very long time to finish, as I don't really have that much time on my hands. But I'm planning to make a massive map, full of different cities and dungeons that you can access, I am also planning on making most of the sprites and maybe some tilesets. The game will most likely use the classic battle system and be based around its storyline. I'm also thinking about adding humor to my game by adding a couple of funny Easter Eggs, hidden throughout the game hehe.

If there is anything you want me to include, if you think it'll make my game better, please tell me in a reply!

Storyline: I'm trying to make my whole story into one game (There are four books altogether) but this is some of the story line:

Introduction:
The game begins, in the past to the main part of the game. You control the "Seven Sacred Knights" of Rithulian (The characters don't actually serve much purpose in the game) and you are at war against eight beasts. You encounter battles with the beasts but fail, until an eighth knight joins you. You then kill all of the fiends and the three "Serpents of the Sky" (Which act as the "guardians" to the beasts) attack you. The battle is now impossible, and the serpents wipe you out. It then enters a "mini cutscene" where the knights die and the eight weapons that each of them possess are taken back to a city in West Rithulian called Riyu. During the introduction, it shows the present, and the eight weapons (the only weapons powerful enough to defeat the Serpents) are stolen. The Serpents then use the weapon's magic to revive the eight beasts.

Chapter 1:
You begin Chapter 1 as a fifteen year old boy named Arten. (Who turns sixteen the next day) Arten is the son of Royal knight, Captain Roger, and lives in the city of Riyu. Arten goes to a meeting outside of Riyu's castle and finds out, his father is sent to retrieve the eight weapons. His father gets to Epshontaurus, where the first weapon is held, and gets killed by a servant of the beasts. The serpents then realize that Riyu's forces may be too powerful for them so they flood the city in darkness. Fortunately, Arten and his two friends, Hensal and Larcra were wandering the woods at the time. As soon as Arten found his father's dead body, the three companions set out to retrieve the eight weapons and defeat the serpents!

If you want, I will release more info over time, but I think I will make every chapter in a new continent of Rithulian, the Western Rithulian continent, (Where you begin) the Eastern Continent, the Central Rithulian Continent, the Jhontass Rithulian Continent, the Oreia Rithulian Continent, The Northern Ice Caps Continent, the Leista Continent and the final continent of Carcolcalon. I also wish to make more things to do in the "post game," like allowing you to go to the Southern Ice caps, travel to Rithulian's surrounding Islands and enter the Underground Tunnels of Anorihia! (Anorihia is like old Rithulian, it is where the people of Rithulian first lived before moving to the surface. I have also made an entire language for the Anorihian residents! I may have a link, showing the whole language in the later developement of the game)

Wish me luck!

I wish you luck. BTW, why use the standard BS? Get something refreshing :P.

I just seem to enjoy the standard battle system. I don't really like ABS very much and the standard one shows a full sprite for your character(s) in battle!

I wish you best luck, too.
One tip on how to make the standard BS awesome: Remove the lover window or make it transparent, then use backview sprites and make them
animated. Voila, awesomness. Just use your creativity for some additional nattle gameplay mechanisms and this actually has some potential.

This looks like it could be a very interesting game. However, do you know any of the actual plot yet? Since it's based on your own novel, I'm guessing you do. I think people would get more interested in this if you talked more about what the game is actually about. Regardless, this looks like it could make a great game.

@lonely_cubone Yes, I do know of the plot, (Obviously from the book) and I will edit my post to show some of that information. I'll also release more information about the gameplay as I'm making it. Anyways, thanks for wishing me luck everyone!

See, now this game seems more interesting. I like the idea, although some of it's a bit cliche. It seems like you could probably make this an interesting game if you put enough into it. Considering the apparent size of the world map (since it has 8 continents) and the language you wrote, I'm guessing you're planning on putting plenty of effort into making this a great game.

:( Unfortunately this project is going to have to wait. Sorry to everyone that was looking forward to it, but heres the problem: I created this project on a friend's computer, and was hoping to transfer it to my own computer. Whenever I try to put it on my computer, there is an error. It may be because RPG Maker XP isn't compatible with Windows Vista. If there are any solutions at all, I'd be happy to hear them! Thanks!  :^_^':

Right click on RMXP, go to Properties, and then the Compatability tab. Check off "Run this program in compatability mode for:" and then choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the drop-down menu. Then I think you have to Run as Administrator, and it'll work.

Sorry if it's not exactly the same as yours, I'm using Windows 7, but I think it looked the same when I had Vista. The general idea of what to do is the same.

There is a topic for running RMXP on Vista in the general discussion board, I think.

Yea, I've got it. All I have to do now is transfer it from one computer to the other... Once, I have my USB back!
