I've just started to work on my first CBS. My idea so far is a some type of sideview system, such as FF6, or even something a little like Chrono Trigger. I imagine these have been done before, so I was just kind of starting this topic so that if anybody has any ideas for a CBS that they haven't yet seen, I may try to include some of them in this one.
I've seen plenty of FF6-like systems, and while I'm sure yours would leave them all behind, I've never seen the Chrono Trigger battle system replicated. Of course, I'm sure your system wouldn't be exactly the same by any means, but something in that style would certainly be unique.
The Baten Kaitos Battle system. Unique, epic, and only done once so far.
May I just say... if it's a time battle system like FF6, a feature to skip the waiting part and go to whomever would act next. Waiting the clock made the FF6 battle pretty tedious, and grinding so much longer.

Agreed. I have decided to go with a Chrono Trigger CBS. I have a pretty good start so far. Working on the combo skills and ranged attacks right now.
So basically it's gonna fuse FFX's CTB (which literally is ATB without waiting) with CT? I have to wonder how you're gonna make the combo system work with that.
Could be something like "Wait for dual tech X" the player waits until the other player's meter charges, then they perform the tech and both meters reset.
Or similar to the CC stamina system, no waiting involved just stamina to use.

That's actually a rather splendid idea.
That is exactly what I had in mind. I want a true 'active' system.
What about a Press-turn battle system?
I've only seen it made once, and that was in VX...and part of a huge collaboration of crap.

I got the combo skill system just about done. I made it so that it has a 'plug-in' feature where anybody can make there own combos (scripted), and can easily merge them in.
I know you're not finished yet, but I am hoping you will answer a few questions for me. First off, will battles take place on the map, like Chrono Trigger, or will it go into a battle screen, like... well, most other games? Secondly, have you determined yet how the sprites should be done for this system? The second question, of course, largely depends on the answer to the first. I reason I ask is because I am hoping to use this script once you finish it, and want to plan accordingly. Thanks in advance!

Battles will take place on the map, using the normal character sprites. I'm attempting to make setting up actor/enemy coordinates per battle as least tedious as possible. I'm creating a bunch of methods that make moving actors very easy for creating skills, etc., and allowing for skills that target enemies that are within range of the attack, just like Chrono Trigger. Hope that answers your questions!
My brother was interested in a Chrono Trigger type system. This sounds like a really good system!
Personally I like seeing all the different types of systems people make. I wish you the best of luck while working on this! :D
I will have a working version in about a week (hopefully). Just wondering if anybody would be able to help test it.
I only need a couple people who can test it in an objective manner before the I post it. Anybody?
I can help you with testing, if you'd like.

Okay, I'll let you know soon as I have a basic demo made. Thanks! :haha:
I'll test it as well.

That should be all I need.
EDIT: CBS is is on hold for the moment. About 95% done, but still have a few bugs to work out, and I'm getting tired of putting off everything else I want to do, such as fixing bugs in my other scripts, etc.

No worries; take your time. I'd rather have a well-done CBS that took a long time to complete than one that was whipped up quickly but sucks. :)
I'm looking forward to this though. Congrats.
Just curious on how the progress is goin and maybes a tentative release date...?

Amen to this. No rush, though.
I should get back to it soon. I wanted to go back over some of my older scripts and update them, which I am about done with, then I'm gonna fix the last few bugs, and probably have a Beta release for this.
I actually have a working version of it, though it is prone to randomly have minor bugs pop up. The only problem with this is, is that I think it may be a design flaw of the systems base. I want to go back and redo that, which will also require a good many edits and total rewrites of the large portions of the script.
I gotta kinda fed up with it a little while back when I realized a better way I should have started the script, which is why it got placed on hold. Now though I almost got everything I want accomplished, and won's have so much aggrevation fixing it.
@rose, since you wanted to beta-test, I'll upload you a somewhat working version of the current system to critique if you would like, though I do not be dissappointed with some aspects of since, they are incomplete.

Sounds good. I'm not a scripter, but I can still give you feedback on what I think so far and possible improvements.
