Title: Would it be allowed?
Post by: Memor-X on March 11, 2008, 05:41:13 pm
this question has been plaguing my mind for so long, i might as well ask, if i was to create a game in RPG Maker XP, and sell it on the market, would i be allowed to do it by Enterbrain if i credit them propoly (a part at the start of the game saying "this game was created using RPG Maker XP devloped by Enterbrain") and paid them for it useage

how much do you think Enterbrain would want for say, 100 copies

their license clearly states that you are allowed to distribute your games for a profit, or free as long as it's not pke..
(i used a keygen and thats not rlly detectable so..)

@Valcos: no problems there, i can come up with some real good idea's and the amount of cash i will be bale to make i should be bale to pay the people who i use the scripts of, like Blizzard, got to get a credit card first and paypal before that

@Fallen Star: so i don't have to worry about paying them, cool

Yeah, Enterbrain doesn't mind if you sell games using RMXP which you actually bought. It really is enough to say "Created by using Enterbrain's RGP Maker XP".

But it's different with resources like music, graphics and scripts. You need permission by the creator(s) of them to sell the game commercially or they can sue you that you used THEIR work to gain money WITHOUT asking them first. Another risk would be that somebody wants money for you using that resource in a commercial game.

well the RTP wouldn't count count and i can just edit that, plus i can make all my music, as for scripts, well apart from the SDK and some of seph's scripts, all the script i use is from wither you Blizz or other people on this forum, and i ahve no regrest giving money to people for that

Sorry for butting in, especially when the solution is loud and proud, but I can't resist to post a little here as benefit.

For selling a game, it is actually very okay to do so. Enterbrain allows it. You can even use the RTP according to my recalling, since Enterbrain allows you to freely distribute the RTP and do whatever as long as it stays in RPG Maker XP.

However, on the case for custom tilesets, music, and etcetera, it's really better off to make your own. You have to ask the creator of them for permission, and some you probably can't even contact at all. To be on the safe side, you'd rather just create them on your own. That's what makes RPG Maker Selling a little arduous.

well like i said, i can just remake some of the RTP and i have no problems paying people for other resorces, like the aircraft tileset from Chaos Project, i would pay maybe, AUS $250, ofcause i would need paypal and that to pay Blizz

are you Australian??? I'm, anyway $250 seems a bit too much memor I dnt think you would have to pay anywhere near that much

Yeah, it definitely has to be really good with a lo of nifty features, otherwise it would be bad rep for Enterbrain to part of the distribution of poor product. Worry about making and completing the game before concerning yourself with trying to get it on the market...

@Nortos: yeh i am, and yeh, 250 seems a bit much but that would be the most i would pay for something

@Calintz16438: Limit Brakes, being able to chnage those at any time if you have the item, payrole system, transformation system, are just some systems i'm using in my games now, and when i learn how to code, i will try and make a system where you equip an assesory and from that, you can equip Eco Stones and depending on the type of stone depend on what happens, like Green Eco Stones change the body (Status), Blue Eco Stones allow you to learn skills ect. plus i got other great ideas for other system but not the knowlaged to make them, anyway, i'm not going to ut my games on the market just yet, won't to make Megaman Battle Guardian I: Hunters of Memory and make all 4 games in Core Twinlight Worlds (Black Core, Black Core II: Black Howling, Angel Core and Twin Core), and i would get everyones opinions on these game first so i can see what i may have done wrong and how to imporve them

Sounds interesting, but how much have you actually incorporated?? Good luck learning to script, I wish you the best...It's hard for me!!

I wouldn't take more than 20 USD for the tileset. :P

And the tileset isn't entirely by me. I have edited another tileset. As far as I remember, I mentioned that. O_o

Also, just like SRK said, the RTP may be distributed freely. That means, if you are using the RTP for a commercial game, you HAVE TO provide a link to the RTP, have to mentioned that it's free and credit Enterbrain for it.

@Nortos: Victoria, about 2 hours west of melborne (think that's how it spelled)

@Blizz: hmmm, i should tell Div to add that, she's been making a page for the intro for Black Core saying about the Core Engine (what we call the template for all Core Games) and about enterbrain and that, she's doing it cause i have my hands full at the time
