Title: Babs template
Post by: The Niche on September 21, 2010, 11:03:40 am
Ok, thanks to Dweller, I now find myself in the rather difficult position of doing attack sprites. And I've discovered that good templates for all the different sprites are incredibly difficult to find.
What I need, and what everybody needs, is rtp style templates for the various different babs poses:

Attacking - template swinging a weapon? I need a template for swinging a two handed weapon, i.e.an axe, but the most common weapon is a one handed weapon, probably a sword.
Defending - the most common request for this category is going to be a character holding a shield.
Using a skill - I don't think a template is doable for this one because different people will want different sprites for this.
Using an item - likewise.
Idle - likewise.
Attack, skill or item charge sprites - likewise.
Running, jumping and sneaking - self explanatory.

Edit: Found an attack sprite. It's for a one handed weapon but I think I can make it work as a two handed. It's by Legacyblade(@Legacy: Message me if you want this removed!)

I was about to say "O hai! I made that one." I have a few more tucked away in my folders that I can grab for you if you want.

I saw them, but I don't think they'd be suitable for general use. The bow one and down one, maybe. I'll stick up the down one in a minute.

I am going to take my hand at this for you Niche.
For all Chaos Project members, actually.

I do not use Blizz's ABS, and I probably never will...not because it is a bad system (it's the best) it simply isn't my preference. However, the popularity of it grows by the day, and perhaps I could put my spriting skills to use, and do something great for the community. I am re-doing my default charaset template. I need a perfect base for this endeavor. When I finish reconstructing my original template I will move into each weapon pose in order by their appearance in the default RTP.

So, the templates will be finished in this order:
1. One Handed Sword
2. Spear
3. Two Handed Weapon (Axe, Greatsword...etc)
4. Bow and Arrow
5. Fisticuffs
6. Blunt Objects (Staff, Club, etc...)

I looked into the icon information through the editor's database, and these are the standard weapons provided in the original RTP, so these are the weapons I will use as a base for my templates. When I finish the attack templates I will move onto defense templates. I will explain more when I get to that stage...

I am going to continue working now...

Calintz, I love you. If we had cp awards, you'd win spriter of the century, no doubt about it :D *lvls up*

I´m interested on this too. That is a lot of work for only one person, so if you need help I´m ready to join you on this project.

yes...this is a plethora of work, but in all honesty it shouldn't take me very long. I will spare no expense with shading or anything. I aim to make these templates VERY good quality. I hope they turn out as good as I expect them too. If the finished products look at good as the template I'm fixing now, then a lot of people will benefit from this, no doubt.

I am about half way through finishing my original template.
I am going to create a new thread for the finished resources. I won't post them here.

Also, no credit will be required for using them as they are just templates.

Seconded. If there's anything I can do to help, y'know. I'm not very good at spriting, but I'm getting a fair bit better and I can test out the templates as well.

I appreciate all offers for help on the spriting, (that goes for you too Dweller) but like I've mentioned before...if the templates are to follow one style, then the person who begins them is the one who has to finish them. Everyone has their own way of doing things. Even if we're all mimicking the original RTP style, we each will go about it our own ways, so in order to assure that all of these templates follow the same pattern it's going to be best if I do them all myself.

However, when it comes to testing the results, I would greatly appreciate the help of others. Like I said, I don't use Blizz's ABS and it isn't on my CPU anywhere, so I actually can't test them. If somebody would do that for me, it would save me a lot of trouble and time...I would greatly appreciate that.

Edit:
I am now 75% finished with the default template...

Your speed. I suppose you're updating an existing work but still.

Oh, yes...
Agreed though.

I have been finished with the template for about fifteen minutes now, but I am re-organizing my photobucket account quick. I just uploaded it, so I'll be creating the BABS Template Thread soon. I am very proud of my new template, Lol. It will serve its purpose as the base for the remaining templates quite well.
