Title: My New Computer
Post by: ForeverZer0 on March 04, 2011, 11:24:10 pm
So the other day I ordered a new PC, which I should be getting here with a few weeks. I'm pretty pumped about, it's a huge improvement over my current Inspiron. Here's the specs:

Model: Dell XPS 15
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Processor: 2nd Generation Intel Core i7-2620M  2.70 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0, up to 3.40 GHz
Memory: 6GB RAM
Screen: 15.6" HD LCD
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 1GB graphics with Optimus

Not the absolute best, but that is a damn fine machine in my book. I can't wait!  ;)

The graphics card and I do believe the processor is better than mine. Otherwise I beat you at monitor size. 23" baby!

You have a giant CENSORED, I mean monitor.

The monitor is definetely it's largest drawback. It's the same size as the one I have now, so I'll be used to it. I didn't have the spare cash to upgrade anymore. I spent what I could on the performance enhancing components, but after that, I was getting scared to spend anymore.

it beats my laptop...
2.5gh Core 2 Duo (64 bit but I'm running 32 OS)
4Gb Ram
GeForce 8600m GT 512MB

My current labtop sucks.

Dell Inspiron 1545
2.0 GHz Pentium Dual-Core
2GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit

Don't laugh. That's what I have been dealing with.

That sounds like a fine machine. Sounds like you made good choices in which components to upgrade. Congrats on the purchase!
But mine is still better.

Congratulations, Zer0. You have joined the 1337 PC ranks with me, G_G, WhiteRose, Blizz, and many others. :naughty:

Damn you. * seethes with jealousy *
I looked into Alienware first, but I found that I could get comparable performance for about half the price, so I went with that. I have already been saving money for a few months now for it, and didn't want to wait any longer.

I got a new laptop about half a year ago.

AMD Turion II Dual Core M520 2.3 GHz 64 bit
4 GB RAM
HDD 500 GB
ATI Radeon 5670 HD

and I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I think my display is 17", can't remember (resolution 1366x768).

I think 1366x768 is the 15", because that's the same as mine is now.

I don't really have any experience with Macs. There is too much software out there exclusive to Windows so I doubt I'll ever make the switch. Maybe someday if I see a good deal on a Mac, I'll pick it up as a second computer, though.

My audio engineering school provides me with it so I don't have much of a choice, but from what I've got they're alot more reliable in general.

I also add this sentence predicting that there will be hater comments now to stop exactly that from happening.

Not from me on this one.  ;)

I'm no fanboy about Windows, its just my personal preference, and I understand people getting used to and liking other OS's more.
I have heard the same things about Mac, and have heard they have a good customer satisfaction. It's still not enough for me to make the switch, though.

Actually I did that so people are all like "Oh, he's trying to provoke me. I'm not gonna do it now.". So, yes, your reaction. ;)

lol, yeah that about somes it up so far. I actually saved some time by downloading and saving a gang of installers to my external HD. Makes it go a little faster.

It usually takes me a day to set up a new OS installation for me with everything I need and use and all my data. xD
