I was thinking about ways to encourage game development, and the idea of 'Featured Developer' came to mind. Basically, we decide one person each month who will be our featured developer, and they get some sort of post where their current projects are featured, and everybody can talk about/review them. I think it would be cool :)
That would be a pretty cool idea. +1 vote.
Eh, what's supposed to be the point of this? Most people just do their stuff and sometimes post some progress here and there. They already have their project threads and everything they need. Also, there's not way we are going to copy RMRK. Short after I left RMRK over almost 4 years ago, they had something called "Project of the Month". This here is practically the same thing, except that we call it "Featured Developer". I think that this is a pointless idea and a complete waste of time. How's this going to help anybody anyway?

To give some of the smaller individual projects more attention, which they are definitely lacking at the moment.

Because nobody else seems interested in their stuff.

Exactly, so why not help them along?

Anyone here care about RMRK? *looks around* Nope? Alright then, moving on...

Well somebody is a party pooper =/

There are a lot of projects that I hear about in passing and I know are under development, but they rarely get noticed. Also, it would be a fun way to include every forum member and allow them to show off a bit. It would just add one more benefit to being an active developer in out community.

I think they are getting the attention they deserve. If the developers are not up for making a hype about their game, why should we? We are a community, not a charity.

Maybe because their stuff sucks.

Why help them in the first place? If they can't put a project together and finish their game, they don't deserve any help. If they don't have any motivation themselves, nothing will help them.

RMRK did it in an ok way, but you are suggesting that we make something similar but pointless. Why should just one member be the featured developer? There are plenty of people here. What makes one person so special? It's like picking favorites. It's stupid.

Somebody gets a bit of power and thinks they can do anything now. =/

One single benefit like this won't give people the motivation to make their game better or finish it. Face it, people tend to give up in the RMXP community. How many projects get finished? 10%? 15%? And we already have a Featured Projects section. This suggestion is just plain redundant.
Why must you set everyone up for failure? Just because you had to overcome many obstacles doesn't mean everyone else has to overcome those same obstacles. You should try being a little more realistic.
I AM realistic. I didn't say that everybody has to overcome the same obstacles as me. I said that most people won't even finish their project. They will just give up. I don't mind helping people and motivating them, but this is just plain pointless. Nobody will gain anything from this. We already have the Featured Projects section for people who ACTUALLY work on projects. I think it's plain stupid to suggest something that is already present here in the community.
EDIT: Ok, fuck this, I'm locking this topic.
