What do the helper guys think of Managen for the name of the magical element?

Its not bad. But my mind reordered the letters there and made me read "Megaman" at first glance o.o

I'm somehow fond with the "yte" at the end of the word for a crystal-like element, so I'd suggest "Managyte", (while Managen could work too, anyway)

Are we going to stick with this or are we going with something else? I especially need to know about the hair. Second, will I draw the sword in his sprite or not, seeing as how we're going for multiple weapons?

I'd say not to draw the sword, unless we are going to use an specific sprite for each weapon equipped.

Regarding his look, I'm going to give a try to this (both the hair and clothing style):

What about short black hair?

Spoiler: ShowHide

EDIT: also, white clothes with blue trim instead of blue with red trim?

That one. Maybe you'll need to lower the lyre opacity to 75% or something like that to make it work better with the background. And some music notes like in the other title samples would be nice, I think.

(Of course, this are only suggestions.)

I think I'll be able to do some stuff on that list this week.

I'm going to give priority to Battle and Victory poses.

  • Usage of facesets. Should we use them at all? If so, where should we place them? Should we have multiple faces for each character showing a variety of emotions, or just one face for each?

Here are my personal opinions on these issues:

Adding multiple facesets for each of the main characters would add a lot of personality to their dialogue, and would make the game seem more immersive, so I think it's optimal to do so, if our artists are up to it.

I'd certainly like this idea and I've no problem on doing the facesets. Once I get to finish the actual character desings, I can get into this.

I think we should use both facesets and name windows for standard dialogue, and just name windows for shorter dialogue or one-liners.

As I mentioned in the story thread, there are a couple features I would like to implement, regardless of what system we use. These aren't entirely necessary to the game, but I think that they would be nice:

  • Combat dialogue - characters would have things to say to each other every once and a while during battle, perhaps regarding what they are fighting or a recent plot event. These would probably use a name-window only (not a faceset.) We will need to make sure our combat system is capable of displaying messages in battle.

  • Travelling dialogue - this might be a little more difficult to implement; I'm not sure if the UMS is capable of this. If it is possible, however, I'd like to see it implemented. Basically, while walking around, every once in a while the characters would talk to each other regarding various issues or plot events that have occurred. This dialogue would be automated; the player would have no control over it, as their controls would still have to be used for moving around. They would have to still be able to move and activate events while the dialogue is occurring. Any event that occurred would interrupt the dialogue. This was very well implemented in Dragon Age, and added a lot of personality and depth to the characters. However, DA used voice acting, making the system easier to pull off. It's my opinion that we could still do something similar using dialogue windows, but I may be mistaken. The windows would have to be as unobtrusive as possible, so we would probably only use name windows, not facesets, for these conversations.

Agree with all this, both the battle-dialogue and the travelling-dialogue not only sound cool but looks like a need for this game if we want to develop the characters personalities.

The window skin should be something on the darker side. Maybe a dark amber colour would look nice. We should choose something that goes with the rest of the artistic style of the game.
I think letters should appear individually, but fairly quickly. When the player holds down the button, it should speed up considerably.

I'd go with creating our own Windoskin, of course. Maybe we can have 3 different designs and have them change during the storyline too...

Regarding the text boxes, they should never be skipped, but there always have to be the chance of speeding them up.

we will need battlers though, drawn in a style similar to this, with three different poses: battle, victory, and death.

This style will work? I could try and make them in a more-RTPish style if we are going to use RTP monsters and NPCs

Well, I'm going to be busy the next 10 days as I'm working on a short film that requires lots of my time but just to let you know, regarding scripts I've done minor edits to existings scripts and I remember once making a new not-complex window scene all by myself

Minor Edits = Understanding how some things work and change them to fit my needs (with this I'm saying that I'm able of doing more than just changing name displays on scripts xP)

So I'll need to know what we need to be done with graphics+scripts so I can tell if I'm already able to do it or ask for specific guide.

Thats my point, Rose.

I'd need to know if this is going to be used in the actual game or it would just be "turned" into sprites.

3.  Scripts will be heavily utilized in the graphics and animation department.  If anybody with graphics talent has an interest in learning scripting, there will be many opportunities to do so.  Don't worry, it's much easier than it looks, and I will provide help whenever you need it.

I like scripting buy have not many experience on it, if you guide me throw it I guess I'll manage to get good results though.

I agree with the separate skills and the "titanium reducing Overgod skills" thing, it fits nice with the story.

In a reply for your comments on the four characters I've got to say that I haven't been drawing anything in almost two years... I used to be a perfectionist when drawing, but I put time over quality on this or I would never get the free time I'd need to make them look exactly as I'd like to.

Anyway, as I've said before, I'll keep fixing them as much as my daily schedule allows me to. :3

Hello everyone, I'm using William's Concept Art post to tell you that I've been on some sort of vacations, (far away from internet xP) and now I'm back, so I'll update the drawings ASAP. (I'm kinda sick now too as autumn is starting over here so I'll get to it when I get healthier xP)

Btw, thx for the suggestion on all 4 characters, I'll do my best to make'em work. ^^
