Just a quick update to let you guys know I am actually still working on this.
so as you have seen I've tried many different graphic style for the project, and although its taken forever for me to finally decide, my graphical skills have improved a lot and I came up with some interesting character and game design in which I am really happy with.
While I worked on all that, I had some time to work on the story a little bit too. It's still the same story but I've rewritten it, to fit the concept of what I have in mind better.

All the characters look like the one above (the character above is the one you'll be playing), and enemies are designed in a similar style.
actually while experimenting with Photoshop and coming up with these characters I thought I discovered a cool style of character design but after some research I learned of Vector Style art. either way I love it and for some reason I have way too much fun designing things with it. and the more I do it the better I get.
to show you the different character styles I went through until I finally came to a decision:


anyway so good news I'm very close to finishing part 2 which will mean the release of the demo for CP. (this is where I really started my rpg adventure I suppose so I'm gonna release it here first I guess). but before I do that I decided to write a few guides to this world I have created to answer all the questions one might have. so I deleted the first post temporarily until I finish editing it with everything. The guides will include important relics, origins of all 5 races as well as the two twin gods, the establishment of the Meastre, Shroud and Niea's Court, the origins of the classes, Important events in the time line, and Important characters of the current Era.

Will also have Cool class description like that and some of the history behind that class and why has it been recognized by the Meastre as an official Title.

Anyway, I don't have much I am ready to release, because many things are bound to change and I decided next thing I show should be final, so this post is kind of useless in a way but I just wanted to drop by and update it. Don't bother looking at the main post as I am editing it right now!

General Discussion / Side Scroller or no?

Ok putting the difficulty of making a Side-Scroller with our beloved RPG maker programs aside, would changing my game into a Side-Scroller be a bad Idea? (yes I know it's my choice, but I'm torn apart when trying to answer this question, so I would like some opinions).

I have been having a hard time motivating myself to finish my game... right now I have a lot going on in my life so I don't get much time to work on it, and when I do get time to be on the computer I mostly rather watch something or play something because, when working on my game for a little, 30 minutes turn into 2 hours. Don't get me wrong, I love working on my game which I am sure a lot of you would agree with me that there is just something exciting when you bring an idea that's been in your head to life. A week ago I wanted to post the progress I've made on my game and realized it was not much at all! its been more then a month and just nothing interesting I could show off! and I now understand that my expectations are far too high. I work on this game ALONE so I need to start cutting some of the work I need to do on it, and make it easier for one person to complete... and that way I could notice a considerable amount of progress coming through.

So I started cutting down the features I wanted the game to have and some maps, and even characters, and then my friend suggested, "why not make a Side-Scroller?"... you see, a side scroller would mean, designing the maps would be so much easier... you really just gotta design left and right, and that means the maps and the Character sets... (for some Npc's you just gotta design the way the look no need to animate them... and then put them on the map) that might sound like a lazy thing of me to say, but really is it? I'm just going to continue working on a story and game with just a little different light to it. ANYWAY I don't want to make this too long... I made a quick map in Sidescroller format to try it out and see what it looks like (I even made some character) so I will put the not Sidescroller screenshot and the Sidescroller screenshot...

what do you think, should I go Sidescroller and finally make it easier on one person? what's your opinion on side scrollers in general? do you have any better suggestions or ideas? please let me know :)

Just letting those who care know I didn't quit this Idea I just decided I want to work on it with RMVX ace.
reason being is I decided to make it with a more... of a lazy graphic style art made in photoshop and using parallax mapping.

as you can see it looks very simple, (it was super fun to make) but this way I find I can have all the resources I need.
(I find that I always give up on a game usually is because I can't find all the resources I need)

Is that a lengthy cut-scene (maybe more than a minute)? I'm kinda a fan of not seeing the HUD when a story is being played to me.
But it still looks really nice!
it's about 30 seconds xD, but yeah I think it would look better with hiding the hud and maybe adding the black bars on both top and bottom to give it a cinematic effect.

So I've been running into a lot of trouble not being able to use the script in parralel events.
I'm using Even range condition By F0, and I wanna make it so when the character is away from an event it will tell it to come back,
...
and if I would make it an autorun event the game will just get stuck,
is there any way at all to make this work somehow? I don't want the text showing and the character being able to move anyway, Just that it will be able to show the text as if it was an autorun or a normal event.

I really like this script because it looks great.

The bubbles don't have that much of an unnecessary space in them like

so I'm just wondering if there is any way around this,
if there isn't then as much as I'd hate to, I will just use another CMS  :>.<:

Edit: EVEN if it would mean to disable the script when its on parrallel event, where it would show the normal windowskin styled message system.

Nvm! I deleted the script and added it again and now it works just fine! (I must have messed up something somehow)

Yes that could do exactly what I need it to, so I tried it out but when the switch is on weird stuff happens.
so the first 3 armors I have in the database are 3 helmets in which I am using as "Hair" slots.
so in the character creation I have it where you choose a haircut, so right after choosing a gender (when the switch is on) The sprite of Actor 1 from the helmet ID 2 is drawn on top of the Helmet ID 2 of Actor 2. and armor ID 7 isn't showing while the switch is on. I am probably confusing sometimes so Ill get you a picture in a sec.

it might be something really simple, but I don't know what it is :S

With a little bit of magic, you can have the player animate. Script call (assuming the player is controlling Actor 1)

Can't you just make two actors? From what you proposed, I'm not sure that's even possible.

and no it won't really work easily considering everything is going to revolve around actor 1. Although I suppose I can just make a male and female switch and keep using a conditional branch, I was just hoping there was a way to make it so the sprites update themselves depending on something like sprite name or using a switch (like if switch X is on, then the image name has to be 'a12_ON' instead of just 'a12' this way if it was a female character lets say, I would turn the switch on and the 'a12_ON' would be the female version of the armor.

because I wanted it to be animated (showing the character walking as you design it)
I'm sure I can do somehting, just thought if it were possible to use an event it would make things a bit easier P:

Edit: here's a good question, can I make it sprite specific instead of actor specific?, since I want to make it so you can choose a gender, so one equip will look different for both genders.

no but really, I'm glad I have your support, IMO you are excellent in scripting.

OK so I finished the beginning of the game.
Like in the picture above (cave) you will start in a dark cave, and can't remember how you got there. you find out that you were taken by crazed Aryhans who are experimenting on Mundanes, and with the help of Cathy and Artras you attempt to escape. This part will mostly guide you through the basics of the game (Controls, Scenes, and some other systems).
It'll sort of be like that


But before I can release a demo to try this out, I need to finish the character creation part... which I am having some trouble with, regardless... what do you guys think? What should I improve or change?
(Don't mind the random sprites! I was trying different sizes out!)

Not at the moment, I might make it so you can someday, but right now trying to get through making the first bit if the gameplay. I'm scared it would just over complicate things story wise and would take too much time, and I want to have a demo soon so more people will be interested :3 (unfortunately I work a lot and am moving at the moment, so I don't get too much time ATM)
