ACT 1- The Death of a King
The story itself starts with death. An assassin appears to kill the king of Romulot. The king seems to recognize the mysterious person. Using unknown powers, the assassin teleports behind the king and kills him. Only a week has passed and the entire country has been thrown into turmoil. Groups of bandits now roam the countryside, doing as they please. The cry of the people is heard but not answered by the neighboring countries. One day, a young man named Devlin wanders into a small town. Weary and thirsty from his travels he tries to go to the store and buy something to drink. However things don't go as hoped because bandits raid the town. He is caught up in the commotion and is captured by the bandits.
The leader of this particular group, the Scars, is called Zora the Harlot. She gives Devlin an ultimatum: Join them or die. Choosing life, he is sent on a mission: He has to rob the elder of the town he just visited! The elder catches him, and in a confrontation, Devlin kills him. When the mission is completed, he feels qualms about what had transpired but blames the old man for getting in his way. Zora sends him on his second mission to meet an acquaintance of hers. His name is Dr. Joribo and he claims that he found a special item that could prove to be useful. During his mission, a meteor falls towards the earth. It does not strike the ground, but hovers in the air. Soon after, monsters spawn from inside the meteor!
After fighting through some of the monsters, he finally reached Dr. Joribo who shows him a stone emanating energy. It is strange because the energy is being generated from the stone and energy is not supposed to be created, but only recycled. He takes the stone and rushes to find Zora. He finds her right outside fighting off some monsters. He takes her inside and Dr. Joribo explains about the stone. All of a sudden a group of soldiers call for Zora and Dr. Joribo. Zora asks for Devlin to come and he refuses. Zora reminds him of his agreement and he agrees to go. They find out that they have been convicted of conspiracy against Haolin . They take the stone and imprison them in the other country. Devlin goes crazy while inside his cell and when he touches the metal bars, they melt, allowing him to leave. Zora and Dr. Joribo ask to be saved, but Devlin says he will only free them if Zora agrees to release the contract. She agrees and he is about to free them when he hears soldiers and runs away. When the soldiers leave the opposite way Devlin went, Devlin doesn't come back for Zora. He runs into the room where the stone was kept and believes that the stone gives him special powers, so he takes it. Before he can leave, he is caught by an elite officer who says he is impressed that Devlin escaped. He decides that he will kill him on the spot. He stabs Devlin but misses his heart. Devlin holds the stone close to him and hides it from the view of the officer. Then his wounds heal and he stands up again. Shocked by this feat, the officer then makes him train under the new order that has been formed called the Government.
Days pass by and Zora and Dr. Joribo are freed by the Scars. Devlin receives missions to help out people and fight off monsters. He is confronted with one of the leading scientists named Dr. Horlit. The doctor seems unaffected by Devlin's rude nature and becomes a mentor for him. The doctor says that he found that a monster left a piece of the meteor behind. He starts conducting experiments. Time skips a few months. Dr. Horlit goes mad. He claims that the stone is a gift from the gods to him and that he should be in control of all things. He claims to be gods' ambassador. The Government wants the stone for their own purposes and order Devlin's group to hunt him down. They find him near the meteor. A monster comes out and he tames it with the stone he has. He battles with Devlin and Devlin maims him calling his own mentor "dirt, not worthy of life". The doctor raises the stone and then recites words of another language.
ACT2-A long time from home.
As if from teleportation, Devlin wakes up at an oasis with nothing but desert surrounding him. He passes out traveling and wakes up in a village. He learns that he lost all of his equipment. He speaks to the elder, who rescued him. The elder tells him that he is on the Wakari-masu continent, the continent of understanding. After talking a bit he finds out about the Kingdom of Radiantis and its king with psychic abilites (...yeah). So, Devlin decides to seek him out.
After traveling through a forest he meets a girl with a pendant on her neck. The pendant looks very similar to the stone he saw before. Before he can ask about it, another monster appears. Without thinking, he battles it leaving the girl alone. The monster goes around him and goes for the girl. Before he can do anything, an arrow connects with the monster. A woman comes out of nowhere and fights the monster. Mad at this upstaging, he pushes her away, fights the monster and slays it. The woman expresses her disgust at his actions and introduces herself as Adamine. They both argue about his behavior. Then he leaves saying he is going to see the king. The woman wants to go with him, for her own reasons. He tells her to back off and leave him alone. He leaves the woman and the girl. The young girl worries about him.
He goes into a cave. After venturing into it a bit, he comments on how hard it is to fight all of the monsters and starts to regret leaving those two behind. He then gets angry about how the woman upstaged him and disregards his thoughts. Almost at the end he sees a big millipede monster. Scared out of his wits, he can't move. The millipede gets close to him and prepares to strike. Then all of a sudden a card flies out of nowhere and explodes in the monsters face. A strange man appears and warns Devlin of fear: fear is the only thing you should be afraid of. Devlin comments on his strange garments, insults him and moves on. The man follows him despite Devlin's objections. The man introduces himself as Collonae. Devlin nicknames him "stalker".
They finally reach the castle but the king won't have audience with anyone until after the arena battles have been done. Devlin lightens up and decides to enter the arena battles. Collonae comments on how quickly Devlin changes. They enter battles with captured monsters. Then the final battle is with the girl and Adamine (earth). Devlin asks why they are there the woman says that she has her own reason to see the king. The girl was worried about Devlin and decided to come along too. She introduces herself as Carita ( which means love). Devlin makes fun of her for being lovesick and she gets mad at him, denying it and stating she would never love a "child" like him. He says she does not have any battle skills. She says the same to him and that the only difference is that even though she cant fight, she still is more useful than him. She claims that she will prove it. They fight and she heals her partner. Devlin is surprised. He still beats them thanks to Collonae. After the battle he gloats about the victory. They claim that Collonae was the reason that they won. He denies it claiming it was all him. Collonae just laughs. Then a monster breaks the chains holding it back andattacks them. After beating it, the king congrats them and they ask to speak to him. He agrees and promises that they would be rewarded later.
ACT3- The Bondage of Death
After being rewarding them, he agrees to talk. Adamine asks about the increase in monster numbers recently and asks to step up troops around the towns.The king agrees but states that troops are limited. Devlin asks about his future path and what happened. Before he could do that a message comes for the king and he tells Devlin it will have to wait. Collonae says that if he finds one of the stones that it could be told to him. He asks about Carita's pendant. He says the stone is not big enough. He knows of a mine that might have some. During their travels Adamine notices something strange about Collonae. Devlin argues with her. They head into the mine and find nothing. Then, all of a sudden a woman comes in and attacks them they defeat her and she escapes.
They return to the king who decides to tell Devlin his path, but before he could the woman appears and Collonae attacks Devlin and the others. They bring them to a hideout. They escape by killing a guard near the cell. They want to stick together but Devlin leaves them behind. Later they hear Devlin scream and find his dead body with the killer. The killer reveals himself as Devlin's brother. A young woman comes and saves them.
She calls herself Odile (malevolent alter ego). She brings them to a village and they plan on investigating the people that kidnapped them and what they are after. They meet Ramiel, a ronin after he is thrown out of a bar. He knows a little about them. The go to a city where one of their members is and interrogates him. They learn about the Government and about someone killing many people. They believe that it's Truman, Devlin's bro . The woman Zora attacks them again stating that "we don't die easily anymore" when they defeat her. They hear from the member that the person was going to assassinate the king. They hurry to the king and find Devlin there.
When asked how he was alive he just laughed and killed the king. The woman attacks Devlin and he kills her. He is about to kill them but stops and teleports away. They find about what happened with the meteor from an old man named Nomus who finds them. He states that the energy from the rock is an energy that makes up all of the elements and is called Forae. Every element is a variation of forae. Devlin is one of the few people who can use Forae in its purest form. They hear a explosion and the see Devlin walking by. They follow him and he goes into a forest. In the end they find him talking with a spirit. Nomus claims that Devlin had formed the action of soul link. Soul link is the bonding of two souls sharing the same power and energy. The person must be able to form the chain using pure Forae and he must have a strong will. Devlin is not strong enough to resist the spirit. He uses a device that binds Devlin and says the only way to free him from the grasp of the spirit is to unlock Devlin's true self. He use a spell device and go into Devlin's mind. There they see how he was neglected by his father and then abandoned by his mother. He was the youngest of the brothers and was always ignored. They find Devlin crying alone and he looks up.
Then they return and they see that the chain was broken. Devlin then gets angry with them. They explain what happened but, he is still angry. He tells them what happened after he died. He wandered through an abyss of darkness and meets the spirit Mamre, which means rebellious. The spirit promises him life if he forms a soul link with him. If the chain is severed, Devlin will die shortly and the spirit would be absorbed into the earth. Devlin wanted to fight his brother for revenge. They tell him about the Government. The spirit appears, separate from Devlin. He tells them that Devlin only has a short time to live unless they can find someone who can forge the chain. Nomus volunteers. Everyone looks shocked but he laughs asking how they thought he was able to use the devices. He then pulls out his own spirit named Athena, which means wisdom. He says that the soul link can be formed at anytime during life but only once after death. However most people can only see them after death. Even more so, only a rare select few of people can even form a soul link. In order to form a link one must be where an abundance of Forae is. He then explains that Devlin was in the tansition plane. Had he stayed any longer, he would never be able to come back. Those who make it to the other side are truly dead. He says that a Forae stone of a large size is needed to forge the chain. Devlin tells him to shut up because he talks too much. However, he soon apologizes throwing everybody off. Odile takes a liking to Devlin.
All of a sudden Collonae appears. He tells them that the "stone" they are looking for is in the sea. They ask about why he betrayed them. He states that he had his reasons. Devlin does not trust him. Collonae states that they need to hurry for the world doesn't have a lot of time and leaves. They ponder about what he said when the earth shakes. Devlin suddenly remembers the meteor and believes that is can be used to restore his chain they find a way of going under water with the power of water manipulation. He goes there and sees the meteor. He and his spirit touch the stone, Nomus recites words and the chain is restored. Then, the head of the Dr. Horlit appears out of the meteor! He smiles at Devlin and the rest of the group. He blasts them across the ocean. They arrive in a plain after coming out of the ocean.
Soon afterwards, Mamre starts to take over Devlin's body again. The others try to help but Nomus says that this is Devlin's fight. He loses and the spirit takes over. They plan on releasing him again, but the spirit stops them by destroying the device. He decided to stay with them for a while. They go to a nearby town and meet Collonae again. Collonae claims that he has defected form the government. They take him hostage and bring him to the nearest hideout. They raid the hideout and they make the officer tell them where the real HQ is. They leave, but he sends a message to HQ about them. Devlin wants to raid the HQ. Adamine says it's too risky. They will have to be sneaky.
They sleep at an inn. Devlin thinks about Dr.Horlit. He then remembers Steiner, the one who taught him how to fight. He wakes up Ramiel and asks him to train him. Ramiel says training starts within ones self. Devlin realizes that he has to change. He promises to change. They train. They raid the HQ and then meet with one of the three generals. After beating him, the leader comes out with a hood with Truman and kills the general. The hooded man reveals his goal to rule the world with the ultimate weapon. He then reveals himself to be the king of Romulot. He reveals how he faked his death (The assassin was actually Truman. The king faked his death so that he could control the Government without being detected). He wants the meteor for power to rule the world and protect his daughter who was hidden at the time of his "death". Truman takes the king away.
ACT4-The Meaningless War
They go outside and talk about what to do. All of a sudden they bump into Zora.
Zora smacks Devlin for leaving her behind and says that his life belonged to her still. She explains what happened to the Scars(they disbanded). She knows that Dr. Horlit is alive. He is planning something huge. They go to the inn and rest. Nomus says that the meteor must be destroyed soon. It cannot be allowed to exist. That would solve all of their problems.
They overhear a guy talking to another speaking about the destruction of a town in Gardian. He says it is a rival country and war may start. They investigate the town and find banners of Mullaf. They also see Dr. Horlit. They ask where the meteor is and he laughs. They ask about what he is trying to do. He says what he's going to do is become a god.
They go to Gardia and ask to see the king. They are not allowed. They are trying to tell them that the rival country did not attack but they do not believe them. They have to travel to Mullaf and make them want to give peace. They arrive and it is preparing for war. They try to tell them to give up, but they respond with force and are jailed. Days pass and war is about to begin. They are released and find out that the war would be fought in the plains of the District of Maumelle . They go on a hill and see the two countries fighting. All of a sudden, they see the meteor hovering over the battlefield. They rush toward it and find Dr. Horlit. He recites words and Nomus realizes what he is doing. Then Nomus recites words and forms a barrier around the team.
The life force of the soldiers are gathered up and absorbed into the meteor. It produces a huge monster and Dr. Horlit laughs. Finally he has gained immortality! The monster breaks through the barrier. Devlin gains control of his body and protects Carita, dying in the process. Dr. Horlit reshapes the meteor into a castle in the sky and goes there. The monster follows. They talk about Devlin's sacrifice and how he can never come back again.
They take him to the inn. The Nomus teaches Carita barrier. Odile sneaks out at night and Nomus follows her. He sees her for what she truly is, she is harms him to near death and leaves him to die. Athena wants to give her life force to save him, but instead he recites words and gives her a physical body while disintegrating his own.
The next day they are surprised to see her in physical form and sad about the two losses. Then a demon appears and tells them to go to a shrine. There they find Odile and she transforms. She reveals that she works for a demigod and was sent by the demigod to steal Devlin's life force, but now she has to settle for theirs. She is more powerful in her true form. They have to weaken her. Then Athena casts a spell and binds her to her human form. She is forced to stay with them now that she can't go back. She tells the demon to tell the demigod, then to get info on Dr. Horlit. The countries are signing a peace treaty. Zora takes them to Dr. Joribo. Dr. Joribo explains how those who were in contact with the stones do not have there memory erased. The demon overhears Dr. Horlit and tells the team that Dr. Horlit plans on recreating the entire world without death.
The king of Romulot is currently traveling to the castle to stop him and claim the power of the meteor for their own. They have to stop him. They have to leave form a mountain to get close enough to the castle. They get to the top and then Devlin reappears in front of them! This time he is wearing different clothes and has the name, Aquila(Revival of the spirit). They joke with him and tell him what's happened so far.
ACT5-What is Death?
Aquila shows them his new power, Foratic Manipulation. He can form an armor of fire and electrify his weapons. He can also control Mamre and use his power. He explains about his meeting with the gods (He made a pact to stop Dr. Horlit so that he could live. They travel to the castle. Once they get to the throne room the king reveals Carita to be his daughter and they witness the death of the king, again...
Truman is severely wounded. Dr. Horlit asks him why he fights for a fool. Truman says because he's my king, and dies. They fight Dr. Horlit's monster and kill it. They retreat because of injuries, but Horlit follows them. Carita forms barrier and heals the team. They fight outside the castle and find out that the attacks are futile. Athena says that she could stun with a spell. She does and Aquila attacks. They see a soul link chain to the castle.
The castle then transforms into a woman. She is the sentience of Forae. Her name is Aditi (mother of the gods). They have to fight her to beat Dr. Horlit. They beat her and Dr.Horlit is close to death. He explains why he did those things. He was teased as a child. Everyone he grew close too died he did not want to see any one die. When he found the Forae stone it was destiny.
Aditi promised him eternal life if he helped her infest the world. She then promised that she would help create one without death. He agreed. Aquila says he was a fool. For death is not the end, but an awakening. This world is only temporary but the next is our true destination. It is liberation from suffering, from loss and fear. Aditi appears after he dies, calls him a fool, and says that in order to live she must feed off of the world. She has done so to many other worlds and they can never travel to the other plane. The world is too weak to resist her.
They fight while the world is ending. They beat her; Aquila absorbs her into his body and then expends her out of the world. The world is pitch black, but then a light shines. The game ends when he says, we're not afraid anymore. Death is not the end, but a new beginning.
