How does this make sense, at all?

So, apparently, my laptop's backlight is fucked up. But no, that would not make a goddamn shed of sense AT ALL.

I start up my laptop, backlight works as it shows me the HP logo, starting Windows thing, ect. But booting up, and going to the login screen, it does not work.
The screen still works, because I can very faintly see it if I take a flashlight up to it. I have to use an HDMI cable to do anything, which defeats the purpose of a laptop.

Now, I know for a fact this is not a hardware problem, simply by the fact the backlight does function when I first power the thing on, so it MUST be a software problem.

Any help, please?

Extra question:
Why are Steam games freezing for me now a minute after starting them up? I made sure it was just them, and it is. Standalone game work just as great as ever, but steam games freeze a minute after starting them.

I have the same issue with my laptop actually. It's the power inverter for the screen... It's just dead. Easiest fix is to buy one and replace it, other than that, all I do with mine is shut the cover, open it back up, and it's usually good for a little bit until restarting it..

Wait, does this power inverter only function when Windows boots up?

(that may sound like a really dumb question, but it only happens when Windows boots)

I've once had a similar problem. I can't remember if it was the power inverter or something else, but it should be easy enough to fix. Have your laptop checked out by somebody.

Have you checked so it isn't just a setting? Some laptops have many settings for the computers different lights.

Yeah, I just might have to take it in to someone.

As far as I know, a setting to "Kill backlight on boot" does not exist. Or I didn't search hard enough to find it, or even know it exists. :P

Anywho, an update: I updated my graphics drivers, and the problem stopped... for roughly a minute or two. I think that seriously does eliminates any hardware problems, or I lost all touch with how computers function, and am just dumb. I mean, this is fucking annoying, and my parents are too damn lazy to take me to have someone see it. I tried asking, but it's a "We'll do it later". A day later "No. Take your fucking self, and quit being lazy." Uh-huh, I totally am lazy. What with not having a drivers license, and that coming from the people who refuse to take me to the motherfucking DMV to test. Brilliant! Morons...
