Now that a full trailer is out, I can say that this game looks super fun.  If anybody else gets it, we should play online :D

looks awesome :O

Too bad i don't have a Nintendo 3DS :/

Wow, that looks pretty epic!

Subsonic_Noise

Game looks awesome, but the trailer... doesn't seem very well-made o.O That's far below nintendo standards, I mean even the audio is pretty terrible.

You must have not set it to 720p. :V

...I just saw him turn into a shrimp.

Subsonic_Noise

There's more to quality than compression. :P

I'm actually interested on why you think it's low quality Sub.  It's not the standard trailer formula used by games like Call of Duty, but in my opinion, it's really effective.  It shows graphics, story, and lots and lots of gameplay.  Since Kid Icarus is a game that very few have heard of before, it makes sense to put more emphasis on the gameplay to introduce the game, and less on the other components.

EDIT: this is probably more along the lines you are thinking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njaaBWbA8_k

Subsonic_Noise

Well, first off, the mixing on the audio is -really- bad. Too much dynamic range on the voices, so you sometimes can't hear them as well and they appear tireding to the ear. Then, the reverb.... you don't really use reverb on voiceovers anyway. I get that it's supposed to give the "holy" feel, but even then they chose a conciderably crappy sounding one.. plus, it's far too small to give the sound it's supposed to give. The rest of it is awkwardly set cuts, the voiceover and the video following a different flow, and ingame menus being shown at awkward times.

winkio

I dunno, the reverb effect is probably because they don't communicate face to face.  I'm not saying it's perfect by any means, there's plenty wrong with it.

Subsonic_Noise

There's plenty of other ways to do that, for example, dampening the high frequencies (those are the one that first start losing presence when the sound source is further away).

Blizzard

I agree that it looks like a very fun and fast paced game.

I just read a review about it in a magazine; they said that the flying parts were a lot of fun, but the ground parts were dull and repetitive. That reminds me of Sonic Unleashed...

It looks like the game can get quickly repetitive, though I am not going to knock it until I try it.

I'll have to try and play this somehow one day.

Just got it, and played through about a third of the campaign and I'm very impressed.  My only caution is that you will not have fun playing this game if you do not like multitasking.  Otherwise, it's AMAZING.

The air segments have three main components:
-attacking enemies that fly around the full three dimensional region of the game field
-dodging enemy attacks and stage hazards
-story based dialog between the characters

These air sections are not by any means a clone of starfox gameplay; the core concept is used, but it is taken many steps further.
They are definitely fun, and are largely based on your speed and reaction times.

The ground segments are much more varied, and in my opinion, the most fun part of the game.  It is by no means a hack and slash mode, as every area is setup to test the player's strategy and skill.  Combat works like a simplified 3D version of smash bros stamina mode: you can dodge to avoid attacks and attack with a variety of unique ranged or melee attacks.  There are also special powers that have a limited number of uses, such as one that throws a fire blast, one that heals you, one the lets you jump high in the air, etc.  There are also items on the stages that either give you buffs for a duration or can be used directly in combat.  There are also vehicles, each of which move and attack different, as well as having a special power.  There are numerous paths to take to get to the end, and secrets and treasure scattered along the way.  Finally, there are boss fights, which are always big and flashy.

Now why the warning about multitasking?  Well I am a pretty seasoned gamer, having good reaction times and strategy, and when I first played the game on the normal difficulty setting (2.0 on a 0-9 scale), I was being challenged, and died on the first level.  Ground combat was especially tough at first, as you have to manage 3D movement, aiming, and firing all at once, while trying to strategically dodge attacks and find a weakspot.  However, after a playing just three or four levels, I got used to it, and am now feeling very comfortable with gameplay.  Once you get the hang of it, you keep getting better every time you play, and it is so much fun.

Also, I've seen a lot of reviews complain about the controls, specifically, the grip.  Since you are using the stylus with your right hand, you have to find a new way to keep the 3DS still.  This took me all of 30 seconds to figure out: you can put your stylus hand's pinky under the DS and use it and the palm of the stylus hand to keep a steady but relaxed grip on the system, comfortable for hours.

The best part is the selection of hundreds of weapons and powers, each of which can have different ranks.  Switching weapons will slightly change your playstyle in the air, and completely change your playstyle on the ground.

Overall it's a genius game, you guys should definitely play it if you get the chance :)

Sounds good to me.

Beat the game a little bit ago and I've been going back trying to unlock extra weapons and features.  Everything is still enjoyable the second, 3rd, 4th, time around.

Another big thing that I didn't go into detail on last post was the story.  I was completely blown away by how it was presented.  While there are numerous 10-20 second cutscenes scattered around the stages, the story is mainly told during gameplay, with voice acted and illustrated dialogues written to match the pacing of each stage.  If you kill a boss too fast, you literally interrupt their taunting monologue.  If you fail a timed jump in a vehicle, your adversaries will mock you.  While the plot is a little hectic, the characters all have a lot of depth, which is pretty much a first for a big Nintendo franchise.  And the cast of characters is a lot larger than I was expecting, which was great.

Of course, I would be misleading you if I didn't mention the humor and gaming/tech culture references.  They are everywhere, and they are amazing.  Let is suffice to say that the greek pantheon of gods is home to some of the biggest trolls of all time.

Oh, and multiplayer is good :)

This game is good in a different way than any other game.  Every part of the game is built with the intent of creating fun for the player.  Air levels are always showing off scenes of epic proportion as well as optical illusions and creative visuals.  Enemies are setup to require clever strategies to be defeated.  Dialogue is always entertaining.  There is no tedious aspect such as grinding or backtracking, and the game has a ton of content and challenges to keep you busy.  While I have experienced many great, immersive, games over the years, I have never had as much fun as I did the past few days with Kid Icarus.  That includes big console titles like Zelda, Metroid, Halo, etc.

Definitely get this game.  It is something completely new and completely enjoyable :)

Im thinking of getting this whenever i have the money. I'm mainly saving for kh3d which is the only reason i got the 3ds lol. This game, though, also interested me after I found out that it was coming to 3ds. I definately want it, but I don't know when I'll get it.

I soooooo want to play this game but then i will have to get a Nintendo 3DS and i don't wanna buy one, it's no good for my budget :<
Plus buying one console for just one game is kinda meh..

But it does realy look like an amazing game!

So far i know two titles for the Nintendo 3DS i wanna play, they are: Kid Icarus and Paper Mario 3D

I'm tempted to put spoilers since there are so many interesting things in this game, but then you will hate me if you do get it.

The weapon system far outclasses any mmo in terms of customization and strength.  There are something like 64 unique weapons in the game, each of which have different firing patterns, movement speeds, and battle playstyles.  Rather than have stronger weapons as you progress through the game, the new weapons you unlock are the same power as the ones you start with, but offer new playstyles.  You make stronger weapons by fusing two weapons of similar value into an entirely different weapon (a different one of the 64 weapons).  This will increase the melee and ranged stats of the weapon, as well as combine any special modifiers the weapons contain, such as Speed +2, Health +5, Poison +3, etc.  By combining and recombining a large number of weapons, you are able to make high power weapons with the stats you want.  This makes it so that it is always worthwhile to pick up new weapons, even if they are low power.
