...................fighting? Where? O.o You seriously much be badly misinterpreting people's posts to think there's been fighting.
Anyway. My two pennies and experience sense this was popped back up and didn't get time to post my own before it sank to the bottom depths. (If no one minds)
When I first started redoing my game Demons Bane for XP, I went on a hunt for a battle system that was easy to use and best of all, different. So many systems that edit the look and feel of the default system, to many side battle systems that were buggy and annoying, some making you go 'What just happened?!'
XAS was the first on map battle system I found and used. I liked it, though it was a pain in the tush to work with. I never sorted out how to config even a small bit of it. In the end it looked more like the flashy display tried to hide the poor controls, hard to set up enemies, and I never did sort out how to make my own weapons. Ended up being 'use the default and be happy' >.> Test playing against EASY TO KILL enemies resulted in me dieing more times then not. Then there were the script conflicts, oh so many conflicts.. gt to where any other script/effect even menu system I wanted had a fit with it, ether used just XAS and nothing else at all, or toss XAS in favor for the scrips I want to use. But I bunkered down, and was using it for almost a full year as I developed the story to my game and did a lot of testing.
BABS I stumbled on by pure accident on some other forum posted by some user that was def not good'ol Blizz. It was an older version but the time was the most up to date copy, had it's issues, but I found it to be a lot better then XAS. Gave it a try, made a test game with it, messed around... What drew me to it was the controls. I could actually hit and beat those EASY TO KILL enemies that were a pain with XAS. Best of all it only conflicted with a few of the scrips I had WANTED to use, those conflicts were on some of the more 'for looks' scrips, ones I didn't mind tossing for this (okay the dynamic footprints I do still miss) I ended up tossing out XAS for this. Best of all, the one map that was having such ugly lag issues that I had fought over how to remedy, had no lag with BABS. Give you a guess what I chose to keep using still today :3
Over all. XAS is very flashy, does have it's pluses to it, personally I do like it's hub a bit better, though could most likely come up with something just as 'cool' looking using Z-hub if I could sort out how to scooch up the MP bar to be flush with the hp bar and add a bg image behind em >.> <.<
BABS however is easier to configure for me, don't take nearly as long to set up enemies, weapons are a breeze. My only issue's is yet to find away to be able to interact more with the enemies. IE. actions and sounds and on action button uses aside OH THERE IT IS KILL IT. though I notice anything you add to them plays after you kill them only... like to get some mobs/critters that will just flee from you.. not attack, just, flee... and get my following party to help with enemies set to passive that I go POKE and it goes POKE back and they sit twiddling their thumbs.
