I've been reading...well...listening to audiobooks, but w/e
reading the Twilight series lately.

it's really not as bad as people say it is.

It's another fantasy romance novel I'd prefer to avoid. Maybe as a matter of preference or perhaps a strong hatred for vampires.

Fantasy + Romance = Fail. its just a poorly disguised way to say 'This guy is supposed to be the black guy in a twenty years ago world, and this is supposed to be the white girl in a twenty years ago world, but Fantasy is the only way for me to do this scenario in a modern day world without getting screaming picketfencers outside my door and a shotgun in my belly'

that's an interesting and very cynical way to think about it.  However, it's not really the same.  I don't feel like explaining why, because it will get nobody anywhere.  The books aren't half bad, but they're not the end-all-be-all of romantic novels that the fans will have you believe either.

I like my fantasy clearly sperated from my romance. Specifically so I can avoid the fantasy and go towards the romance.

I'm VERY specific about how good my Fantasy must be.

Well, I myself have yet to read twilight but from the people I know irl, I'm getting mixed opinions on it. Personally, I wouldn't read it. Not quite my cup of tea y'know? I mean I don't hate vampires or romances or fantasies but to be honest, from the spoilers I've been told it seems really stupid. No offense to the fans. It just doesn't work with me when the supernatural characters are dumbed down versions of the originals. Dracula would own Edward any day. And the werewolves aren't even werewolves, they're shapeshifters >.> That alone is enough for me to not want to read it. That and I don't want to be associated with those crazed twilight fans. To be honest, they're stepping on my last nerve and I'll massacre the next group of girls exclaiming "OMG Edward Cullen!!" Damn obsessed fans -.-"

the characters are well developed, the plot isn't riddled with holes, and it's pretty well written, so I like it.  That and I'm a sucker for <3 

The fact that the Were/Vamp fighting was extremely one sided (werewolves loathed vampires but vampires couldn't care less) was refreshing, and I actually liked the slight change in mythology.  It fit the story rather well.

interesting. but fantasy romance isnt my cup of tea. romance is fine, but unless you handle it well, unless you handle ANY fantasy well, it is a lot of boringness.

Well I don't quite agree with you namkcor but there's no point debating over it seeing as to how it's opinions rather than facts and I'd rather not O.o Well, either way, I don't intend on reading the books since they're not quite my thing.

So anyone read "The Outsiders"? I had to read it for gr. 7 and quite a few people said it was good. I thought it was an interesting read too.

Funny, but I always pictured vampires as the ones who couldn't care less and that the fight was quite one-sided. It's more in line with the vampiric attitude of giving a hit, which I find annoying and quite stupid.

in a lot of movies you see nowadays, it's a constant open war, with both sides despising the existence of the other.

Not that I watch many movies, but I was rather judging on character. It would make sense for the vampires to be laid back in my opinion. It's a point but possibly one heard of before. i doubt Twilight was so unique that, since Bram Stoker made his own vampire novel, there had been no other instances in that mannerism. It's nice to see some variance to be sure, but I haven't been exposed to modern films of those so I don't have a background to compare them to.
