Greetings,
Blizzard has pointed me to this forum; I thought -- well, I could try out my luck here!
I'm developer of YATC - Yet Another Tibia Client. Our site is at
http://yetanother.tibiaclient.com/ and our primary goal is creating a freely licensed client for a 2D MMORPG called
Tibia. I'm sure you guys know all about
what free software is (free as in freedom, not free as in free beer) so I won't be explaining it. I'll just mention that some people call it open source, and I'll mention GPL and BSD licenses (we use GPLv2).
In any case, we don't have a full game to redistribute, not at the present state. We're missing one key portion: graphics. Currently, we're loading graphics distributed together with the official client, but that's impossible to do if we want to include the client in distributions such as
Debian GNU/Linux which put a lot of focus on licensing (all included software must be free).
What we're looking for at this moment are people willing to create and share graphics designed to
replace Tibia sprites. That is, there are over 20000 sprites sized 32x32 composed into over 7000 items, over 70 effects, and over 300 creatures. Some items are similar enough or repetitive that we can use same graphics for several items (such as sea tiles -- we can make all use the same graphics!)
Graphics should be public domain, or licensed under a free license such as GPL, BSD, Creative Commons Attribution (commercial allowed). You should be the owner so we can be certain of the licensing. They should not be "stolen" from another project.
What may be different from what you guys do is the perspective. Tibia, and thus our client as well, uses Ultima-like perspective. In fact, we believe that CipSoft, authors of Tibia from Germany, originally designed the game as a multiplayer clone of Ultima. It was designed when founders of CipSoft were still students and called themselves Cip Team, later founding the company. Tibia is in development since 1997 and has attracted hundreds of thousands of active players, and at particular moment there are between 20000 and 70000 online players, mostly composed of Brazilian, Polish and Swedish players, with several other nations being active as well.
OpenTibia project was founded around 2001 and various customized OpenTibia servers are attracting up to 30000 players.simultaneously spread over about 1300 servers. (See
OtServList.)
YATC was founded by me with several other developers in July 2007 to complement OpenTibia Server since there was no good free client available.
Community is mostly centered around
OtFans which is also the community backed by official OpenTibia development team.
Example of graphics (look at Ultima VI and Ultima VII, as well as Tibia -- note this is OLD tibia, circa 2000-2001)

Tibia can be played on

http://yetanother.tibiaclient.comYATC requires several files from Tibia: "Tibia.spr", "Tibia.dat" and "Tibia.pic" so you need to get them from somewhere. Main Tibia login server is
