NO MORE FAN GAMES!! PLEASE!!

Alright... i know everyone wants to make an awesome remake of their fav games. But can we please try to finish them at least? Honestly, it gets me upset that all these people always want to make a fan game and just end up failing. So, for the sake of all the fanboy's out there... dont dangle their emotional passion for their fav games by promising you are going to make a fan game.

My bad... so need to vent that a little

I'm currently passionate about one game (It's not osu! Diokatsu >_>; ) that I really want to show my love for it somehow, but I can't ever possibly make a fangame for it...The programming is going to be so hard to redo, and besides, there's already a remake coming out on WiiWare so what's the point?

At least GAX is actually going through with his FF4 Remake however.

Fangames themselves can go die unless they're actually pretty logicial and cool.

Kirby... I think you could pull off a fan game and Gax to! Its just that when less experienced people try to do it, as even their first game... its just stupid! Just saying... dont do it if you cant . Only for fan games, i have this problem with....

Well... it wasnt one project in particular, kind of. But what sparked it atm was when i saw the new one buy Meta. Its nothing personal but, it will be plenty hard to recreate the experience of RE(resident evil). Especially using rmxp, you will need resources and actually know how you are going to pull it off. As in, making the action/horror style game play of RE.

And I guess this could go in chat. Also it could also be helpful? Instead of just hate crimes... xD

Yeah, possibly. It can give motivations to one whose wanting to make a fangame (Or discouragement, you decide). If you're really wanting to show your fandom, you don't need to create a fangame for it. You can create a tribute website, study the game so hard, and give it to people as a resource for them to help in their gaming needs. Maybe you can have a signature saying how much you love it, like a userbar, who knows.

I have always wanted to make a DBZ fan game, but I have not attempted it because of this exact reason Valcos.

I am a man of the SVBS, and I think it would actually work in the end, but it would take some seriously heavy spriting to make...

Lol, fan websites are always good xD. That would be way more useful than fan games, in a way. Writing a fan novel is different, you don't have to make actual game play, graphics and such. You can still screw it up, but only if you are not a good writer, or decent.

Actually, why not make a fan writing and eventually translate that into a game? You have a solid story, just go for it! And Fan websites are indeed win.

But, even though you are making a game based off of a fan writing or w/es... you still got to be able to make the actual game. True, it would be somewhat easier to make it more original fan game, but still if you cant produce what the story is saying... you're effed xD.

More so, with fan based games, you have to atleast make the story work with the thing you're basing it on. Even though fan based games are non-canon, it can ruin the feel of playing it if it's missing out things from the thing it's based off. If it's a fan remake of a game, it has to be made really well. Why? It feels more insulting to whatever the game was based on, making me not like whatever it was based on as much ._.

I think I deserve a good victory dance right now, I did an ASSLOAD of maps, the only major pain in the ass that delays progress is that since I don't have an NPC script with me on hand, I have to play FFIV Advance to get all the dialogue...

Btw, I found something interesting.  The Wonderswan Color version of FFIV does NOT have Rosa's mother's home...I had to do some creative mapping to rebuild it in Baron, but I don't think anyone will fully notice.

hey GAX, you should download an SNES emulator with the FFIV Rom - it will make it much easier to find the dialogues and events, and you can easily rip out a lot of the sprites

Well, I suppose you have some points and all but I still disagree with what you said about posting a thread about something we don't like. People do it for multiple reasons and some of them aren't a waste of energy. In fact, some of them are amusing. Take the Dart thread in spam for example. It's basically a hate thread on Dart but it proved to be somewhat amusing, to me atleast.

I suppose some of the things talked about this thread are somewhat obvious and I guess in your point of view, pointless. But for us, it may or may not be something we just need to talk about. Valcos posted this because he just needed to vent out.
