I made it designed for my game an battle system
this is just a bar bones line drawing for now the shading will come latter but for now I haven't even had a chance to do any cleaning in photoshop.

looks pretty cool ryex..any reason its facing the other way? O_o?

Ryex

lol because in my game all the battlers are going to be facing the monsters not have their back to them

archerRin

its not too bad but could use more detail in general, like making his clothes more ornate or something. Also use illustrator to live trace it on around a 240 fidelity it will make your life much more easier than doing cleaning or inking it manually

Starrodkirby86

Ah, nice perspective view there. If I were to comment on something, it'd be the somewhat puny or miniature size of the head. It's not extremely small, but I feel it's a bit...eh...it needs some revision? :S (That is, if you're going to make another version).

Doesn't matter about details if this is going to be a draft...  :-*

What's osu!? It's a rhythm game. Thought I should have a signature with a working rank. ;P It's now clickable!

Ryex

not a draft but the bare bone line drawing next I'm going to take it into photo shop and use the pen tool to create a nice clean line drawing useing this as the template after that I'll post it again so you can see the result then I try my hand at cell shading

uhm you dont listen do you, why would you waste time pen tool?

look, 1 sec live trace it becomes a nearly perf full vector inked looking drawing

you just needa get the lines looking better prior. draw them like straighter and rub off the imperfections then live trace.. its heaps faster and returns a good result

Starrodkirby86

Just wondering, archerRin, but do you use a Tablet?

tablet is still going to take you longer and might look worse than live trace if you dont know what youre doing and if you just make lines with a fixed stroke instead of varied stroke widths
i got a wacom intuos3 tho

Ryex

tisk tisk tisk archerRin I knew what you were talking about and there was a reason I didn't do that
1) that is the extent of my drawing skill I have NEVER drawn something better that that and CAN'T with the pen tool you don't need to be able to draw you can just make the path select you stroke and whala I just can't draw free hand on the comp so I needed this as a template for the pen tool
2)I'd rather just send the extra time and get the job done right the live trace thing dose not give any whare near a good quality as just doing the work

make sure you use simulate pressure in that case. pen tool needs skill as well to be done right, vary the thickness or it'll look really plain . I think its a lot harder than live trace if you just put more effort into it prior the scan, but w/e.
btw thats how professional comic artists do it, it saves a lot of time

Aqua

RTP battlers have 1px solid borders, so you shouldn't vary the pen pressure.

Live trace might be a time saver, but you can't really use it to fix mistakes in your drawing/inking.
I for one make a good amount of inking mistakes, and I just use pen tool to fix it...
Though I usually just "ink" with a pencil and then use pen tool XD

the live trace? professionals use it? I find it hard to believe but OK

and here is the result after computer cleaning
Spoiler: ShowHide

I still need to get it down to 1px boarders and see? it looks WAY better than your live trace example because I was able to fix the curve of my lines with the pen tool

Aqua

Did you add a drop shadow? O.o
Take it out... please! XD

Also... those lines seem to be kinda harsh O.o
Did you stroke it with the brush tool?

Ryex

no, no drop shadow. I was following archerRin's advice with the simulate pressure thing If i had stopped half way through I would be done already but oh well. and yes it is stroked with the brush

Aqua

Then why are some of the lines blurry? O.o

Also, his feet and elbow are oddly shaped.
His right leg might also be at a weird angle.

i think its because of the spacing of your brush that caused it, it needs to be less than 25%
btw  i looked at the default rtp battlers and they do use 1px Oo .. so thats why they look nasty

har har very funny

Not insulting your drawing style, just your current stopping place. And not really insulting, just fighting off my own personal boredom. No offense intended, of course.

Ryex

no insalt was taken I was trying to be sarcastic but that's hard to do in text.

His shoulders dont look broad enough? And his sword looks kinda small for a two-handed.

they don't look broad enough because he has turned his left shoulder forward they near perfect from a perspective view

It appears as though your method of drawing resides with creating an outline first. I bet you don't draw fluidly. I would assume you do areas that interest you first, and then your hand moves to a new spot. Kinda wherever it feels like going ...

Use shapes to define your character. It looks like you tried to draw the cape all in one movement. Use flowing lines to develop a base, and reconstruct from there.

Good though, no doubt. It's workable. I've seen hellish worse.
