Telekinesis Outside of Battle (preferably with Blizz-ABS)

Okay...  this isn't a request so much as me wondering if such a system could actually work.  I'm only posting here because if it is possible, then it's a request.  If it needs to be moved, it needs to be moved.

Basically, the gist of this idea is that instead of having a ridiculous plethora of super-specific spells, 'magic' is merely the manipulation of objects around you.  You would use the mouse to move events around the character such as rocks, trees, fire, et al and say, throwing them at your enemy to cause damage, or whatever.

Now, I know that there is a Mouse-Control script that allows the mouse pointer to interact with the game.  And I know that collision damage is possible through a Blizz-ABS plugin.

To go into further specifics, here's what I propose:

We have a single skill, called Telekinesis, which lets you move solid objects.  There might be a Pyrokinesis for fire, Aerokinesis for creating wind effects, and a Hydrokinesis for controlling water.
The hotkey for Telekinesis is pressed and held, so that whenever an object is available to be moved, you can move it.  I suppose you can get better and better at Telekiniesis.  A newer adept might only be able to move the smallest objects and hurl them at slower speeds, only be able to levitate them for so long or so high.  I suppose there could be a skill level and the Intellegence stat that factor into these.

Could such a system be possible?  If so, I'll elaborate further, or we can just discuss.

possible? yes
practical? no
difficult? VERY.

I KNOW this system is possible, I just finished a system that allows the user to move windows around with the mouse. but what your talking about is clicking on an object and then throwing it at a monster with the mouse right?

now I know I sound like a pessimist who is crushing your dreams here but the shear amount of power that this sort of system would take is beyond RMXP's capabilities

the lag would make the game unplayable.

I no longer keep up with posts in the forum very well. Don't jump to conclusions so quickly Ryex.  It's both possible and easy.  And I'm pretty sure Blizz is planning to implement the ability to pick up and throw game objects somewhat soon into Blizz-ABS.

It can be done, lag free, but I'd say develop your concept more.  Because just smashing everything on the screen into any enemies nearby doesn't sound very engaging.

I take back my previous statement. I did some tests involving the mouse and sprites. no where near as much lag as I thought. ruby can keep up with a system like this if is done correctly.

but as Winko said the concept need more development before it can really be use as a game mechanic.

Blizzard

Pretty much what winkio said. It can be done relatively easy, but you should wait until I implement pickupable objects.

How long would that take, if you don't mind me asking?

Judging from Blizz's abilities, two hours. Judging from his laziness, 3 years.

(the usual answer would either be "by the end of this week" or "it's done when it's done")

And how would it work?  Click and drag the object around or click the object and click on its destination, the object's speed based on whatever variables?

Well, I thought pickupable objects to work like events. You go there and pick them up as if they were events. Now, the Mouse Controller plugin for Blizz-ABS would allow you to move your character first to the position to activate that event. Finally, I could add some sort of "immediate trigger" on the pickupable objects so you could "pick them up" without the character moving. The object wouldn't even appear on the character, it could be simply floating.

Pretty much what Subsonic/Magikarp said, you shouldn't expect me the next few months to find time to do it. :P

I see.  I've been holding off on this project until the technology was up to speed.  Gives me time to work out the details, I guess.  Either that, or work on something else.  At least you [Blizzard] are actually working on it.
