MIDIs don't play in RMXP at all.

Hello. I found out that my RMXP won't play MIDI files at all. This occurs in both test play and editor. I can play MP3 files oddly, but not non-RTP or RTP midi files. I don't have any scripts that would conflict with them and my computer plays them fine outside RMXP.
Help, please?

You probably don't have the codec installed or something.

I recommend something. Download this program called "Audacity" You can import your sounds and music files.
Then go to File > Export choose the filetype as Ogg.

First of all, the file size decreases which is a good thing. And it should play. =D

EDIT: Nevermind, Audacity can only edit MIDI's. It cant export them as a special file type.

Hmm... that's an interesting problem. Not even the RTP midis will play? But you can play them outside of the program? Hmm.... I think I'm stumped. I can't think of what would cause such a problem. Perhaps RMXP isn't connecting to your audio codec, somehow. What operating system are you using?

My operating system is Vista :p

I think I have a codec, not entirely sure. But when I even install one, I don't ever remember have I installed them D:
What codec I should install?

Try running it as administrator, just to see if it helps at all. If you're able to play the files outside of RMXP then I don't think it's a codec problem, though I could be wrong. What media player do you use to play them outside of RMXP? If you can play them using Windows Media Player, that means you have the codec properly installed. If it turns out you don't, just Google "Windows MIDI Codec," and I'm sure you'll be able to find one available for download.

I installed a DirectX and ran it as administrator, yet it still doesn't play MIDI files at all o_O

My bad. Never known much about this codec shit.
I can't seem to find any MIDI codecs through Google, all I find are just media players @__X

That's because there are no no MIDI codecs o.O
RMXP "converts" the midi files to audio files before playback as far as I know, so there could be the problem.

Try and play the MIDI files in Quicktime or something.
I think at one point in time I had the same problem, but with RM2k3.

I played a midi in Quicktime and then tried to listen to one in RMXP but still nothing happens :<
Well what the fuck? I've reinstalled the program countless times, tried to see if MIDIs work when playing from game.exe BUT no.

I have the same error.
Only Midis don't play. Everything else does.

I have seen a few other suggetions, such as turning on SW Synth, but that doesn't exist on Vista. Another said to set Windows Media Player off Repeat and Random, then let is finish the song it was playing, but neither work for me.

Sorry for bump, but the problem is solved. I were using the 1.02 version of RMXP (I hadn't noticed the release of 1.04)
Too bad for me, I don't know my activation code, because my bro installed RMXP for this computer but even he doesn't remember it X_X
I don't have money currently, so I guess I must give up the hopes on RMXP.

that doesn't even make sense, I've been using 1.2a forever and midi's word fine, in fact I did a little research just now on 1.04 and there is no bug fixes nothing. switching to 1,04 would not solve your problem. the only thing they changes in 1.04 was the DRM protection.
your problem is one of the strangest things I've heard but just because midi's won't play in the editor don't mean they won't play in game or for that mater on other computers. you could still make a game and distribute it and have it played normaly

Eh? Well, I guess it's not the 1.02's fault then. There might never be solution for this, so my only option is to convert MIDI files to OGG.

or ignore it completely, because as i said they should work fine on other computers.

wow your being really stubborn about this. just make the game in RMXP and test it on another computer when you need to hear the midis

Sure if I could access another computer. I could use my brother's computer but I would end up in hospital if I even attempted to do it.
The main reason why this bothers me is because I can't listen to music in other people's games X_x It's like playing Super Castlevania 4 without that awesome music, or Doom 1 on Atari Jaguar.
Oh well, I guess I'll either do a TBS in 2K3 or choose XP. Dunno.
