The Niche

Uh yeah, I'm going to force you all to read my writing, look at my pictures, listen to my songs and stuff and stuff.

First off, I have a section from the book I told you about, The Guardians (it's called Absolute Power now), which I need critiqued in terms of emotional invokement and stuff.

Spoiler: ShowHide
I watch with amusement from a tree I grew myself as a living space, as Toirse lights yet another explosive plant on fire. The blue explosion rips through Tarnlia like only an explosion can. It's quite simply, beautiful.
   Summer, get down here.
   Why?
   I need your ridiculous arms.
I'm not sure if that's a jab so I just ignore it and fly down to him, expanding the forest as I go.
"What do you want?" I ask.
He points at a family trapped under a car.
   "Couldn't you just use telekinesis?"
"I could, but I'm still getting used to it. If I break concentration, I'll drop the car and they'll be crushed,"
"Wait, you want me to save them?"
   "Yes,"
"Save these pathetic humans?" Toirse turns towards me, looks me straight in the eye.
   "Summer, you were human once,"
"And so were you. But why the hell are you sticking up for them?"
"I'm the spirit of rage, not sadism. These people haven't done anything to me, why should I hurt them?"
   "What are you saying?"
   "Summer, why are you fighting?"
   "Because the humans poisoned me,"
"But did these people poison you?"
"They're human, all humans have poisoned me,"
"No, the Arkallian industrialists poisoned you. You killed your parents, didn't you?"
   "Yes,"
"Apart from the industrialists, they were the only people who poisoned you, by choosing to bring you up here. These people have nothing to do with that,"
"How do you know they're not industrialists?"
"You're the one with the mind control powers, why don't you check for yourself?" I don't want to, I want to keep living this life of destruction and hatred, I want to stay away from the possibilty of an alternative, I want to destroy all traces of humanity and allow for the dominance of the forest.
But I can't control myself. A root grows from my little finger, to the head of the woman who must be the mother of the family.
Pain. Sorrow. Regret. Love for the earth.
I scream in agony and horror as the millions of memories flood into my brain, a complete record of the woman's life, the majority of which she has forgotten. It's horrible, horrendous, worse than anything I've ever felt before. I release the woman, I have to. I need my sanity.
Toirse looks at me questioningly. I don't say anything, I can't. All I can do is lift the car off them, freeing them. The children get up and help up their mother, who's obviously a little drained from sharing her life with me1. She gets up, nods her thanks to me and turns to Toirse. I see what's coming next, but I can't stop it, something forces me not to.
   She spits at him.
Faster than I can see, Toirse's hand bursts into flames and goes straight through her chest. The woman doesn't even have time to scream. The children start to run away, I put up a wall of diamond to shield them.
   "Toirse, how-?"
"Exactly. How? What's happening to me? Why did I do that? All she did was spit at me. What's happening to me, Summer? What's happening to me?!" Toirse sobs, his voice rising higher. He collapses to his knees, looks unsteady. I pull him close to me, hug him tightly.
"It's ok, Toirse. She was just a human, it doesn't matter,"
"Listen to yourself, would you?! You're talking about people with souls, thoughts and dreams.People you could have been friends with, how can you say that?!" I'm to stunned to say anything.
"Why the fuck did I do that? How-Wh-What's wrong with me?! FIRE!!" Toirse screams. Some animal instinct takes control of me, I'm forced to drop Toirse, he falls forward, my wings flap hard, I'm launched backwards, onto a tree where I crouch, panting as Toirse erupts into flames in front of me. He gets up, still flaming.
"It's good to be free," he says, but it's not him, his voice is deeper, angrier. The flames die down, he looks straight at me. His eyes, the eyes that were once pure, innocent blue, are now a bright, feral yellow. His hair has gone from brown to a fiery red.
   That's Fire. A voice says.
   And you are?
I'm Nature. I'm the spirit of the Leafstone, just like he is the spirit of the Firestone.
So why don't I have problems with you getting out?
Well, I just did get out, three times without you noticing. I forced you to look into the woman's mind, I forced you not to save her and I forced you away from Toirse. But I have no desire to become the active personality. Even Fire does not, he simply wants the occasional few hours of freedom.
So Toirse's breakdown was engineered by him?
No. The breakdown was accidental, but I helped to make it happen.
By stopping me from saving the woman, I see. But why do you want Fire to get out?
I don't particularly, it is a regrettable by-product. What I wanted to happen was for Toirse to come back to his senses in the same way he made you come back to yours.
   Hadn't he already?
No, he hasn't fully recovered himself and neither have you. It will take a long time, before you are ready.
   Ready for what?
That is not something I am at liberty to discuss. Now sleep...
Suddenly I'm falling, straight into the earth, where I'm safe or the night.

Another, earlier chapter, this from Toirse's perspective.

"Torch! Are you coming to Diesel's?" Axel says.
   "Yeah, alright. What're we doing?"
"I don't know, but I'd say it involves taking a hammer and screwdriver to that motorbike he found yesterday," Ryan smirks.
"Alreadythere!" I grin, speaking quickly on purpose.
"Bring your guitar," Diesel mutters to me, moving fairly quickly through the after school crowd. I try to retort, but he's already gone and I was never any good with comebacks. Coulter leaves our gathering at the first mention of rock music, grumbling about how we're all such wierdos.
Crease pulls out his phone and mimes getting shouted at by his mother. He winks at us and runs off in the direction of his house. Axel smiles and runs after him. I guess he's staying over there.
I nod to Ryan and walk off home. Behind me, Ryan turns around and walks off to wherever he's going.
The first obstacle between me and home is Campbell street. It's not a particularly rough neighbourhood, but Indo Mathews lives there. He's not the worst of the worst, but he really despises me.
Of course, he's waiting for me.
"Torch boy!" Normally, Torch is my nickname amongst my friends, but Indo and those like him can turn anything into an insult.
"What?" I look at him with what I hope is a cold and withering glare. Obviously, he's not cowed.
"I thought you might like some advice," I try to suppress the urge to roll my eyes.
"Have you come up with anything new?" I say, almost involuntarily. I don't want to piss Indo off, I want to be friends with him. But unfortunately, we both have different terms for friendship.
"Go back to rugby, Torch. Let your grades drop a little. Stop being friends with Ryan and them. You know, be normal," Nope, nothing new.
"I'll consider it," I say, not wanting to offend him. I try to move past him, but he gets in my way.
"That's what you said last time, Torch," he jabs me right below the ribcage, winding me. He walks off, leaving me doubled over, gasping for breath.
Well, not really. I've learnt that winding doesn't actually do anything to you, it just hurts like hell. I get back up as soon as he's gone and walk onwards, gasping with the pain.
The next real obstacle to me is Swog alley. This is the only real obstacle when Indo's in a good mood, because they never are.
A  fist catches the back of my skull, coming out from nowhere but the shadows.
The fist collides with my head again. I squirm and try to dodge the incoming fist, but I've never been particularly fast.
Possibly the worst part about this, rather frequent, situation is that I'm being dealt all this damage by a girl. And not only that, but she used to have a crush on me. I'm still not sure why she hates me now, but I am sure that she does hate me.
As if I needed any more proof, she knees me again. I fall back, limply. Into a fucking dumpster. Then she says something in Drav'Ol, and a blast of magical energy slams into my chest. Her boyfriend picks me up and hurls me at a wall. I slam up against it and flop down, grunting in pain.
Funnily enough, we used to be best friends. Then he discovered that she liked me rather than him. Then he started beating seven shades of shit out of me every day until it got her attention. Then she stuck up for me for a while, then I don't know what happened. Love isn't something I'm likely to understand any time soon.
They walk off, arm in arm. I don't even want to know how he can like that troll. It's like...ugh, it's just agony.
I lie on my back in the dumpster, staring up at  the sky. This world, this society, has taken a piss all over me. Under the blue light of the sky, I think of everything I have to be thankful for. My talents, my wonderful mother, and equally wonderful father who lives way up North and that's about it.
The world is against me. From the teachers who hate me because I don't give a shit about their academics since it's all so fucking easy, to the people who target me because they have no one else to target.
Life is a bitch and she definitely isn't my bitch.
One of these days, I'm going to take them both out. I may not be able to do it using physical strength and I may not be able to do it magically, but I will find a way.
   Of that, I'm sure.

That's some pretty powerful writing. 8) May I ask the names of the two gentlemen who have had their pictures displayed upon this site.

Sorry but the drawing is infact not a good one. The outlines are unsteady, shaky and monotone, the proportions of about everything are wrong, the hair has no real direction at all (unrealistic) and the shading.. well, it doesn't even exist. Go practise. Alot.

Yes, I know it's bad. I scanned it in, drew over the outlines and then filled it with gimp. Quite honestly I'm ashamed I put it on show. Regardless, your feedback is appreciated.

Actually, the only depth in the image is coming from the fact that the left forearm is on the other side.

Updated first post with my latest writing. @PHM: Yes, I'm aware I said I'd have that stuff done for monday night. But I was working on the assumption that my laptop wouldn't die and then flat-out refuse to charge. And yes, I could have had it done, but it's a difficult chapter and I had good material written. I should have my laptop restored soon enough. As in, within the month, so if you're really desperate for progress, just move on for the moment.
