Questions about RMX-OS

Hi everyone!

I am Nibel, a videogame loving dude from Germany who likes to work with the RPG Maker. I'm do not know much about scripting and guess that this is my biggest weakness, but I think that I am very talented as Game Designer - so, creating fun gameplay and good graphics is more of my business.  

To give you a small glimpse of what I'm working on (of course, everything you see is NOT final!) :



Right now I'm creating a Zombie-Shooter with the RPG Maker XP and have to do some debugging. I don't work that much with scripts since I come from the RM2K-era which is why I'm used to work with events and stuff, but I have to admit that there are pretty neat scripts out there!

So, to add a little twist, I was thinking about adding some kind of online multiplayer option. I decided to use the RMX-OS since I never had issues with stuff from Blizzard and most of his work is almost perfect. So, I had a few troubles with the server options I guess. I read the manual and think that I've done most things right, but see for yourself what kind of message I get when I try to get the server running:



At first I thought that I should try another PORT, but that didn't help much.. is there are problem with the SQL settings? I think that I had a few little problems with that part..  

Anyway, I hope that one of you can help me so that I can keep on creating my project. Sorry for my English, but as you know English isn't my native tongue.

If your PC is connected to a local network, make sure you enabled port forwarding on your router and use your internal IP address as the server address. People then to do that mistake often.

But shouldn't it still work? I mean, it don't work outside the local network, but it should work inside it, right?

he's probably running it on his internal ip or his whats the word? web ip? I dunno.

External IP, may be the word you are looking for..

No, it can't work. The PC sees itself as 192.168.x.x or some other usual LAN IP. It can't run the the server on an IP that was assigned to a router.

Sorry for double-posting, but I have some new questions 

a) Is it possible to show a specific message in the chatbox via event? Like a said, I'm doing some kind of zombie shooter which is three rounds long. If you've finished round 1, the chatbox should say something like "You've won this round!"
b) Why are almost all events NOT working on the map? Should I switch to common events? Some of them aren't even displayed..
c) Is it possible to see on my own screen if the charset of the other player is changing? Some kind of "Sprite update"? If one player draws a weapon, the other should be able to see it..
d) What are dangers to look out for?

I know for the most of you these kind of questions are really annoying, but I would be happy if one of you could help me.

If you excuse, I have to work on the project again. Trial & error is a good method to learn more about the script! I'm motivated

You can add a message to the chatbox with this....

$network.add_message(nil,"You've won the round!" , RMXOS::Data::ColorOK, action = false)

The second arguement is the text and the third is the color.

This would be more correct:

$network.add_message(nil, "You've won the round!", RMXOS::Data::ColorInfo)

Of course, you can use any color you like. If you use 0 instead of nil, it will say that the message was posted by the server ("Server: You've won the round!").
