I just wandered into this section, and was surprised to see that nobody else has started this topic. With the game already out in Japan, and it's USA release only 9 days away, there has got to be some excitement out there, somewhere. I don't know when it comes out in Europe/wherever people live, but this game is AWESOME!!!!!!
So,
My favorite new characters are Metaknight and Sonic. Least favorite are olimar and dedede.
AND WHO'S READY FOR ONLINE PLAY!!?!!?!?!?!?]
AND CO-OP ADVENTURE MODE!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!
AND STAGE BUILDING!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
AND ALL THE OTHER NEW FEATURES!!!?!!?!?!?!?
Yes, i have been compulsively checking the site for this game at least twice daily. I've watched over 100 gameplay videos on youtube. I may already be addicted before even playing the game. But I don't care. :P
I'm excited as well.. though I don't show to much interest in it :-\ But I had the original super smash (who didn't?) But i missed melee BUT I'm not going to miss brawl for sure!
Haha.. Olimar is very cheap if your one of those quick-dodging players, I saw someone throwing pikmins at a target, all 6 of em, and they did over 50% of damage.
The characters I think have the best final smashes are Yoshi, Luigi, Snake, Pikmin & Olimar and Marth..
Me and my online partner did extensive training, I will be your worst boss...
I kept on wining every match so far... I cant wait to fight people online.. this will be fun...
Yoshi (Red) is my main and Kirby and Luigi are my subs..
Anyone ready to get owned by me?
lol Can't wait then... btw you're going down! Though I'm a noob... I am fortunately azn so that balances out lol 8)
I'm fairly decent, but I have a friend who is pro. He is ridiculous. He has that magic touch and knowledge of the game, that he can whoop me with any character (from melee), including peach, and ganondorf.
So anyways, what are your favorite characters from melee? Mine are Link, mario and Samus.
Haha, if you aren't good at Event Mode, step aside, the master has arrived. Nah, not to be a braggadocio, but I am a pro at the Melee series and can handle myself well when it comes to the original. Of course, I highly respect the Tiers List, even though many times Tiers are pseudo and shunned upon. But alas, I still use it. Maybe because of Pokemon passion.
Anyway, my mains for Melee were the Gan Man, Dr. Mario, and Link. Shame the doctor has to retire during Brawl, but Link and the Gan Man are still there. Doubt I'll use Link though, might as well stick with Gannon the whole time.
Lol Im not going to get this game because I dont got the (crappy :P) wii (no offence)...but I got some friends that do so Im looking forward to playing it at their house 8)... I would get more kills than anyone in the original Smash Bros though...but I never win the round oddly :-\.... ;D

I can figure why you don't win rounds. You don't like the Wii. Neglecting the console that you're playing at the moment doesn't exactly give you much practice time because you don't have it...And Brawl isn't one of those universal games such as Guitar Hero III or Rock Band (They're all consoles, so to speak). :P :P
What aspect do you dislike of the Wii, I'd like to know, so then I can blab about that?
Lol :D I would be glad to tell you ;D. Its not that its a bad system...but its really in its own catagory :P if you really think about it. Im a PlayStation Fan Boy though so anything that isnt playstation is garbage ;D...except gameboy :P!!

Haha, the Playstation is a nice console for the DDR series, unlike the Xbox at the least.
However, the Wii, even though it's in its own realm, that's a good thing. More originality for Nintendo, less competition in that particular area and Nintendo indeed create a revolution. Besides, there's so much other things you can do it's a little crazy. Of course, if I still remember, the Wii is also inexpensive compared to another console that you worship *COUGHPS3COUGHCOUGH*, and there is a victor there. Not going to convert you or anything, but still.
:o But Im sorry to say....I need my High Def graphics :D. Cant live without them :P. Plus I think the Wii has less games than the ps3 does :-\ well, good games atleast :P. But thats why I have friends who have Wii 8)!
can't wait for it wer should compete online together :P
Fav/Best chars in Melee:
Best at Falco than Fox (they're pretty alike though...) than Yoshi and a lot of others running up I dislike slow charecters
i have no idea what you are talkign about.. =)
Assuming since I don't have melee my favourite guy was link or fox from the original ;D
Link was the shit! ;D He was the only character I played with 8).
Link is amazing!!! You don't mess with Link.
Damn straight you dont 8) He murks all! Even stupid Kurby!! >:( >:( I HATE KURBY!! (not starrodkurby :P hes awesome)

Nortos is saying that Falco is his best character, and then it's Fox, after that it's Yoshi.
Not a bad choice at all. Falco and Fox are among the highest Tiers, according to the list of course. But Yoshi I can recall is among the lowest. But tiers can be useless, despite me worshiping them.
Just for giggles, this is my favorite tiers list:
Top Tier:
Fox
FalcoHigh Tier:
Sheik
MarthPeach
Middle Tier:
Captain Falcon
Ice ClimbersSamus
Doctor Mario
Jigglypuff
Mario
Ganondorf
Low Tier:
LinkLuigi
Donkey Kong
RoyYoung Link
Pikachu
Bottom Tier:
YoshiZelda
Mr. Game and Watch
NessBowser
KirbyPichu
Mewtwo
What are those bolded characters for? No reason, just to give you attention at some of the characters marked so low and high.
EDIT: Thanks Valcos. Kirby in Melee is actually one of the worst characters, compared to him being one of the best in the original. He has no specific beat-up move and his KOs are extremely hard to inflict. He has to rely on the B button move with some characters like Gannon or Roy. Though, he still has good points at least.
Link got messed up now, this time, he is very slow, and his B+up move does less damage when its not charged and his gale boomerang doesn't even do any damage at all

So you're saying Link got nerfed similar to the way Kirby did from the original to Melee? Wonder what other character is going to have that same flaw...I secretly hope it's Fox and friends since they were fast ninjas originally. And then I hope Kirby gets powered a little back up so he won't the useless puffball he was previously.
Nintendo went stupid!?! They NERFED Link?? I'm crying at both facts now :'(

Don't worry! There's always...Wolf...and...Lucas...and...Ike...and...Y'know what, screw this, I'm leaving. I might as well just tinker with the stage creator and event mode the whole time. See you later. *Walks away*
*Walks back*
There's still many positives, they just had to make some "sacrifices"...
What a shame... Link was ownage... even more since twilight princess :'(
:o Im not going to lie....I didnt like Twighlight Princess!!!!! :'(
It wasn't that bad apart from the recycled storyline ;D

I don't like "Twighlight" Princess as well. I like Twilight Princess though, it's a great game but with a dark and rustic ambiance. Though Galaxy in my opinion is better, or at least more fun. I have such a great time over at the Spaceship base...jumping over ceilings, trying to get to a faraway consolation...
If they made Zelda on the playstation then it would be amazing!! ;D And Why dont they give Link a VOICE!!!!! >:(
Link has a voice he makes sounds... just not words :P

They do. They just make him grunt and gruff and moan and groan.
Eh-he, Duhh, Shaeyak! (Or whatever it was with that), and etc. etc.
Besides, many women like the strong, silent type...Don't know who in particular though...
And also...he actually talks in the following:
- Link: Faces of Evil
- Zelda: Wand of Gamelon
- Legend of Zelda TV Show
....but I have to go through a whole game reading!!! >:( I hate Reading!!! >:(
THERES A TV SHOW?
Probably somewhere in asia! ;D They gots everything there!! :P
Man, you guys don't know your video game history. http://youtube.com/watch?v=d5M5S4XM5IU (http://youtube.com/watch?v=d5M5S4XM5IU)
Go watch the intro and laugh at it, it's such a humorous catastrophe. I bet you don't know there's a Mario TV Show back in the days. I actually watched one of them because of a cereal offer. It was Lying, Cheating, Sneaking, Giant Ninja Koopas, if I remember the name correctly. Though that should be it.
Lol I saw that somewhere before! :D But I never actually watched the show :P
It looks interesting >.> Still Link shouldn't have gotten nerfed! That's a major turnoff :-\

:'(....w/es If Link is gone ill go with Samus ;D She is Uber Riggage!! 8)
explains a lot... STILL I will make Link seem complete ownage regardless.
w000000h!!!
there is no way in hell Link is low tier. May I direct you to this page (ignore the music and weird effects): http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=JIefIx_ucY8 (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=JIefIx_ucY8)
Yes, Aniki beat Ken with Link. For those of you who don't know who Ken is, he is a pro smasher who was considered best in the world for some time.
If those are the actual tiers lists, then they don't really mean anything. I've seen fox/falco pros demolished with a wide variety of marios, samus, ganons, links, marths, etc. Skill really does have a lot to do with the game, not so much the character. Here's some more proof from Aniki (I love this guy):
Mario vs. sheik http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfl96l5a6vQ (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfl96l5a6vQ)

Yes, those are all my favorite characters. No, I did not steal them from Aniki. Aniki uses every character. And does a fair amount of winning.
lol I still have to get brawl :'(
I can't wait to buy it. I'm not reading up on the promised features, because I want some surprises.
That could be considered by some as unwise.. But now that I come to think of it... I share the same train of thought ;D
I used to, and from what I saw, it looked epic. As long as its as good as its prequels (or even follows the improvement margin between the first one, and the GCN one), I will love it.
As long as it's super smash it's mine >.>
lol. I could drop a load of new features on you and ruin your philosophy, but I'm not that mean. ;)
So anyways, is it released next week where you people live too?
Once it comes out we should post our wii numbers so that you all can pulverize me into little bits (or so you think...).
That would be a nice idea but I didn't connect my wii to the internet yet >.> to lazy besides... I'd get pummeled.
We should make a ownage clan.
I won't be able to get it for a bit (live in Australia *cry*) but yeah we should make a clan :P and I'll still be Fox Falco or
:P love the faster ones and Yoshi is fast too I may like
too
Sonic have serious flaws. Meteor Smash Bait.
Still going to go link on all you guys!!! Don't mess with link... or maybe I'll try snake...?
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Pit yet - he has ranged, reflector, and good recovery.
Obviously b/c Link outclasses Pit >:(
Also, the jumps seem much higher in Brawl than they were in melee. Did anybody else notice that?
I didn't have melee :'( I'm not a gamecube fan :-\
True, the gamecube was seriously lacking in many areas. I got it for smash bros, and ended up buying the metroid prime series as well. Along with Mario sunshine and a few others that were more or less mediocre. ONE WEEK!!!!!!!
:D Playstation All the way!!! :D But still Nintendo had some good exclusive which they would have been better on a different system but :-\ if they werent exclusive nintendo would probably have died in the system wars :-\..... :D

Oi, many people say Tiers are fake. I acknowledge that. Tiers are simply determined by random matchups, plays, whatever...There's always an exception to that. And no, they don't count with Computers, just to say. Though I still look at it maybe because I like looking at the Pokemon Metagaming Tiers, especially the Ubers (Why Wobbuffet, why do you have to be Uber D:). So I accept your statement as a fact, Link isn't exactly a very weak character, he's strong, he just needs to have better beat-up moves like Gannon...
---
We're not turning this into a console wars hopefully.
---
At least there's no Roy enthusiasts here, which is surprising...
No we wont ;D Because I wont let anyone other system be better than playstation :P!
And also Link has alot of power moves....just from close range :P But he also is like the worst for recovering off a cliff or something :'(

Actually, Link is one of the best at if you are the right sort of player. Link's Z Move, the Grappling Hook, can hang on to cliffs giving Link a save. It is very hard to accomplish, and many of the best experts can do this. Link is mainly for a close range, 'least for me. But you really have to beat up the opponent to get him out of the ring. With Gannon, all I do is continuously fight and then smash my way to victory, giving quick times out in Event Mode.
---
Off topic: Can you beat my Birds of Prey, 14 seconds? :P There's probably some
loser that can.

Unfortunately, the N64 one doesn't have an Event Mode at all. I still really wish instead of difficulty on Brawl they should've made an Event Mode Creator. Make your own little interesting scenarios that can be amusing to the bone. Really now, it'd be that awesome. It's like how I want a Mission Mode for Stepmania. Anyway.....If you aren't Kirby in the N64 version of Smash Bros., you're going to get smoked. Well, not exactly, but Kirby is one of the best characters on the original, no kidding.
6 DAYS!!!! :D
And yes, kirby, captain falcon, and ness were very good in the original. But the original pales in comparison to melee. just as melee pales in comparison to Brawl.
On another note, Falco's final smash appears to be incredibly cheap. It it a landmmaster (tank) that hovers REALLY fast. This seems to be the only final smash that allows theplayer to get multiple kills: once you lift somebody off the screen once, you can do it again when they respawn before they have time to escape. This is REALLY cheap. Yes, it could probably be avoided by a skilled player, but still.
you guys better not call me cheap though :P cos I loved Falco in melee and Fox in 64
Oh, and btw starrodkirby, My birds of prey is 12.5 seconds. It's really not that hard... It took me like 7 minutes just now.

Once you know how to accomplish the feat, which is by the way throwing Falco or Captain Falcon into the road so then he'll have to be roadkill (Because Big Blue is really like that), getting a record like that is easy. But it also depends on the obedience of the opponents as well anyway.
i just did it by shining them :D. Just wait on the edge of the car at the very left of the screen, then use B down when they hop down from the big ship - it takes less time than the grab.
Post another record of yours! It will help pass the time until Brawl comes out! (which is 5 days, btw)
I've beaten classic mode on very hard without continues, but has anybody beaten Adventure or All-star mode on very hard without continuing? I've tried, but items and 1v2s and 1v3s keep screwing me over. I think the farthest I've gotten on adventure mode on very hard was the metal bros.
I always rather prefer to play the Classic Mode rather than Adventure and etcetera. The last time I played Very Hard Adventure was months ago, which I don't recall who was my last group. It's either Onett or Battlefield (That includes the sub stages within the section).
All right. Let's try something more possible, something even a lucky person can beat all of us. Dino-Wrangling, 0:00:90.
And another record, if I can bring it off the top of my head. Nah, I'm going to check my records myself. Just wait. All Star Match 01: 0:38:70. Let's see. By the way, all of my event match records are below 2 minutes. If you have an event over 2:00 as the record, you know you've been beaten. :P
You prolly set it in Very Easy

On what? I'm done with Very Easy. D: I only play that to get an easy No Damage Clear, and I do that for Classic Mode. Besides, it was months ago since my last play on Very Hard Adventure, so my results may change dramatically.
I can do Normal+ and I did Very Hard on Yoshi.
Yoshi's underated, he has alright smash attacks and is fast
But he sucks in a 1 on 1 because he has no recovery. Especially if you are playing against someone who uses projectiles.
He's a little sloppy like Luigi in my opinion. Yoshi has a very good "beat-up" move, and can actually KO. However, Yoshi does not have a triple jump. Even though that second flutter jump sounds nice, it's still not that great...It's little too inaccurate. Love how Yoshi is the master at Home Run (In actuality, the Gan Man is only if you can execute the you-know-what-I-mean-right?).
All right, here's a good record to beat. And another, for my generosity.
Mario Bros. Madness (Vs. Mario + Luigi, Super Mario Bros. Stage, Timed Match): 14 KOs
Seconds, Anyone? (Infamous Captain Falcon fighting): 0:1:11
There is sonic!!!? That means we might get Shadow! If we do, I will be happy.
I was playing Melee today :P early this morning 8) Was at my friends house this morning was a snow day ;D. Link uber owns everyone 8). Except when Im 1v1 with Ness :'(.

If you don't want to be spoiled...: ShowHide I highly doubt Shadow is in the game. What I can say for a fact though is that Shadow is not a playable character, as all 34 characters have been announced and proven. The only other cameos I can recall related to Sonic are Tails, Knuckles, and those goofy goobers. However, Shadow may be a trophy or a sticker, which can satisfy you possibly.

It was like, during an E3 conference or of that sort.
Three days.
Im going to kick bill gates in the chin one day >:(!!. But im going to find that article and going to laugh at everyone Muhahaha ;D
Hey... I believe Valcos ;D
Did they announce all the secret chars in mele? Plus if all else fails, they can stick him in the same way they did dasy, one of sonic's colors (probably red or black) makes him look like shadow. I just want to use shadow, he's the best char in the series (and don't shoot me, but I like his old voice better, the one on SA2B...the low voice is more Bad***, but also more generic. The old voice gave him more originality, especially in his personality. The new shadow voice, the one in Shadow the Headchog, seems to have added to the "mature" shadow, and made him generic :( )
Meh idk... I'm not so big on the sonic series anymore... That's why Link is ownage!
True, link and marth do pwn (especially link). Him and kirby were the powerhouses in the N64 one though (especially kirby, that little puffball could seriously whoop).
Link was a total powerhouse 8) but Marth is ballz :-\ Doesnt do alot of damage just is fast :P
Yeah, especially with a few well timed "counter" moves (down b). I love when you're pounding someone, then run towards them. Just as they start swinging (takes good timing to press it at the right time) you press down -b. My friends hate that move, XD
Meh I don't have melee :'(
pffff Kirby would suck him up
It took me a whole five minutes to figure out the counter thing for him :-\...(because my friend told me :P)...i was like "wtf? what a waste of a move!! >:("
lol nah it's good if you practise it
We can't practise it b/c we don't have gamecube :P
:P Exactly. But still I can go over to peoples houses! Or just stay at mine and play the playstation or go to someone elses house and play their playstation. Or go play football in the snow because that always fun! Or does it come out this weekend? :-\

Thankfully it's this sunday :D
All characters have been announced. There are no secret characters to these, the truth is already revealed. There is probably some fool in Japan with no life and already unlocked everything, even completed all the challenges. And no, it's the beta testers for Nintendo.
On my opinions of the following characters:
- Link is a very great character. He can easily rack up a high amount of damage, but he's a little too slow for his own good. However, his speed lower nicefully balances out with the power he has. However, Link has no good KO move other than Sword Plant, which doesn't work all the time. He can't make a character easily fly as someone else. That's the only drawback.
- Marth in the case is a quick and agile character. Roy is a powerhouse compared to Marth, but the speed Marth has can compensate for Roy's slow speed. So Marth can still pack a hard punch. It's just that Marth needs to have an extremely powerful ending move, which is achieved through the right/left smash, or B Up. But he doesn't need a KO move for his speed can damage opponents faster than Link. And Counter is a great move when you're ready to take the initiative, but Roy does a better job at it in my opinion.
- Kirby is easily one of the best in Smash Bros., but got nerfed at Melee.
Yeah. I live in cedar city, and have one of the few wiis (I think we only got 60 or so, people are still having trouble getting them here, XD), so getting the game won't be a problem for me!
@Kirby, that's why I used young link, he got the extra speed boost. And his jumping was nice, he was a slightly slower, more powerful version of marth, but it was much easier to get back on the stage. and I can't wait to play this game, it will be epic (if not, I will find, and burn down, the one who ruined it).
Only problem for me on Young Link is that even though he's very dexterous, he is too weak and there's no balance between them. Least he can wall jump and do ninja jumps...which makes him great for some missions. But nevertheless.
This game will be epic. Especially online.
young link was crap :P nah never really used him used Link but he got boring
Quote from: Nortos on March 07, 2008, 10:30:43 pm

I agree. But having said that, there's going to be some debating going on about Young Link's ability to fight. Wonder how Toon Link will end up?
Toon Link???
Toon Link is a new character in Brawl. He's more famously known as Wind Waker Link. He has the same final smash as Link does anyway, so many people say it as the replacement of Young Link.
sounds nice
I really like the sound of the stage Lylat Cruise with asteroid belt :P
Man, why you guys gotta be hating on young link? Any form of link is complete ownage. Maybe not wind waker link. I didn't like that one.
Young Link is too weak for his own good. Link is better however, and I do use Link, yes. But again, I have my cons for the characters.
Try out Young Link in Seven Years, it's not going to be the easiest walk in the park (Considering Young Link's strength).
It's b/c you guys lack skill! Watch I'll use toon link and I'd annhilate any of you.
Haha, are you kidding me? Really, you're stating I lack skill? Not to be a braggadocio, but I'm easily saying that Link can beat Young Link to a pulp quickly. And Toon Link can be an unorthodox character to play as, he's not an exact Young Link clone. We'll see if it's so.
In the meantime, once Brawl comes out, we can use this topic to exchange Wii Codes with each other. I hope there's a Mudkip icon! :D
:P I'll own all your asses with Falco but I won't be able to get it till like 4 months after you guys ;(
While ya'll be taking about SSBB, Im actually playing it atm, that explains why Im not active lately. :)

Man.. Im sleepy.. I got the STD..
i have 1 questions WHERE THE FUCK IS KNUCKLES!!!"?!?!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!
He runs around in circles in the background of Sonic's Stage x.x;
knuckles would own them all
Except Link 8)
Yes, I am in fact surprised that sonic was the only one from his series to make it into brawl. I mean, starfox has 3, kirby has 3, mario has like 4 or 5, zelda has 3, Ness' games have two, fire emblem 2. And sonic is just as popular as any of those, if not more. I think knuckles and tails should've been in too, but what can you do? Should be going to get it in an hour or two...
ye if knuckles was in there hed crush link , if tails was in there hed have some mech crap to fight with :P and his tail ability like juggly puff or kirby
Meteor Bait -_-
He sucks at gliding and its slow, if he was in Brawl, just B+down or meteor him
EDIT: And juggling bait.. Yoshi's B+up cancles flight and Knucks falls down..
EDITx2: Heres the FC 2449-4287-6926

Yeah, Link FTW, his Final Smash is so fun and its auto target (Maybe useful in Final Destination...)

Yes it is, but it's out for the US today. Japan got it months ago, and Europe + Australia (And other countries) will get theirs way later. It's a time to rejoice, if you can snag your hands at it. I mean seriously, I bet there's going to be some crazy person who already finished the game as we speak.
I did, and I got that game around 1am :)

Then knux would use his up-B, screw punch, which would have some decent height. His flying would be similar to metaknight's and pit's gliding. And knux is also pretty damn fast. Like captain falcon speed.
I think F.A.X. got it today aswell. Isnt replying on msn today :P.

Shouldn't it be 16 digits? I think you are missing four of them. Everyone I know has 16 digits total (4 sets of 4) for their FC.
When we went wireless for the first time, the game assigned it to me, so I guess its the friend code for Brawl

I just got the game. OMG it is awesome. I started playing as Olmar, I like how all the characters have a unique feel to them.
Also..."toon link", I agree, sounds like a rip of young link. When you were good with YL in mele, though, he whooped the crap out of everyone. One thing that bugs me about the adult link in Brawl is he feels to heavy. They gave him Marth and Roy's realistic gravity...that makes me sad.
I'm so jealous if I had a gun and lived in your state I would shoot down someone for a copy :P
I was GOING to get it... But I got tempted by other games for the ps3 :'(
How could you not get it omg what did you get instead?

I have an idea. Once there are enough people and Nortos has Brawl, we should commence a tournament. A CP Tourney or something. The winner gets energized or something...but of course, it's a primitive idea so there has little to no thorough thought put into this.
It's a good idea! >:( We can put bets :P I BET I WIN AND COMPLETELY ANNHILATE YOU ALL!!! Bet with what? I bet everyone 1 energy each :P

And here's an easy way to do a lot of matches very quickly (in order to unlock characters):
under special melee, set stamina on and flower on head. Then, give you opponent 1 stamina. Your opponent will die instantly!
lolz cheats... brilliant :P
Another quick method of winning, which unfortunately does count towards records is however to use a Standard Brawl. Once doing so, set the Ratio to 2.0 and the handicap to 300% for the enemy. One Stock is all it takes.
Well, we might as well start a little rundown with it. Since there's disappointingly 64 buddies avail, it better be wise to choose who you buddy up with. You know? A tournament is a great idea once more, someone should provoke Blizzard into viewing this.
lol cheater do it old fashioned way :P
pfft if a tournament does happen... I'll murk all of you b/c I didn't cheat :o Cheaters never prosper 8)

Another way is to beat Subspace -_-;;
You unlock characters that way, then you need to revisit certain stages to unlock Juggily, Wolf and Toon Link...
I'm like anticipating this game like a lot!! My friend has it pre-ordered, and were gonna tear it up the day he gets it!!
beating subspace and then going back and unlocking the last 3 characters takes about 10 hours, more if you try and go for 100% completion. my way takes about 4 hours total. Plus you unlock lots of other goodies in the challenges area such as new music, stages, trophies, and more. I unlocked all but 6 characters in one hour. Do THAT on subspace.
Also, turn speed to very fast in special options to save a few minutes.
pfft N00BS! :P
How are we noobs? This is a perfectly valid way to unlock the characters, as it is added itself by Sakurai. Besides, you would need to unlock characters the Brawling way if Subspace you cannot do at a short time. For brawling, just battle 10 matches and boom, you get two characters (That is, you beat them).
I see nothing wrong in this method. Besides, if we were to cheat, we'd use all those shifty tactics such as Wavedashing, or quitting the game. That is cheating and is unfair. But we just need the characters at a fast time so we can do things such as...fight online buddies and practice for big items. Besides, you fail if you're a no lifer on Brawl (Playing for hours on hours for example).
Umm... Sure...? Well in the end I'll annhilate you all with link xD
I don't know...if you can play a high enough difficulty with Link on any mode in Solo, I may reconsider...But no online match at this point. Besides, you can always try out Toon Link. :P
pfft I don't even have it yet :P
I oughtta kick ya in the shins Fallen Angel.
OMG i cant believe you guys said Kirby sucked in Melee, he was my second best characer, the MArth thing was annoying... I could onyl beat it with Kirby.
anyway.
I want Brawl, Ima save up whatever money i can find for it.
I'm actually getting it it this weekend... If I got the money... How much is it right now? ???
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else besides me is having this problem: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=twT1YYqCv7E (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=twT1YYqCv7E)
If you're wifi screen doesn't look like their's then do what the description says.
Character that lost some of their former glory in the transition to brawl:
Link: slower + heaver. Almost like ganondorf was. Boomerang not as good, but bombs are better. B-up not as good.
Marth: Slower move speed, but other than that the same
Sheik: slower + weaker = worse
Samus: Tiny bit slower and bombs take longer to explode
Link still has grapple to grab onto ledges?
@Ulta: Kirby was a lot stronger in original she was like the strongest got nerfed a lot in melee
Actually, Kirby have the one of the WORST smashes in the game, like Sheik.
They also tone it down for Yoshi.. but Snake's 3hit combo have a decent smash at the last hit, so thats why I pick him
Yayz! I got the game ;D I'm an idiot for not getting it sooner :o

Wait a second, so you're telling me you're estimating your skill already, thinking you would beat us, but you don't have the game and your credentials come from Melee? Not good. The better you are at Melee, the faster you'll adapt of course, but you still need to work to get to somewhere you really are...elite at.
Especially if you play it with a GCN controller. The wiimote sucks for Brawl! But yeah, bragging about your skill in a game you've never played, ohy.
it's cos he knows he's shit :P anyway yeah I;m gonna use a GCN way better
The Gamecube Controller is the best choice, because everyone is accustomed to it already. For the Wii Mote, the player has to use the D Pad to actually move around, which is so cramped. The Nunchuk you have to easily understand to get it, and it may work better when you switch C with Z (You know what I mean when you see it). However, playing with the Gamecube controller makes the Wii Mote neglected, so it'll remain on and on for so long. So just get out the batteries for the Wii Mote, to save power and all for another game. Some advantages though with the Wii Mote is the vocal given to the character when you choose him.
I was going to use the WiiMote...but let's face it, it's the same control system as we had on the GCN. The Wiimote is like making an ABS with only the default RMXP buttons, but even worse. It just isn't designed for a game that relies solely on button input. the GCN controller makes this feel like its predicesors, which at least I, was wanting. I was getting my but whooped with the WiiMote, but when I switched to a GCN controller, I whooped! I'd rather have good controls than a vocal, XD

The Wii Mote is the worst of the choices. You can still obtain sound with a Nunchuk, and you can also kick butt with it as well. Of course, it takes practice and adaption to get used to it...but the faster you get used to it, the better you are at Brawl and the higher IQ you have.
Hmm... I could estimate my skill at it regardless! And you n00bs.... I didn't estimate from melee! I estimated from the original :o Even then I could still horribly beat you all! :P Maybe not. I don't know. Maybe..... Since I'm azn! ::)
ok, here's the total time I've spent for accomplishing crap:
3:30 hours of brawling (450 matches): Unllock all characters, all star mode, almost all stages, all assist trophies, most songs, and a good deal of other crap.
7 hours of Subspace Emissary: Beat it all the way through on normal. Got a fair amount of coins and stickers and trophies. Unlock boss mode
1:30 hours of events and stadium: Beat 35 events, unlock trophies and the last few stages and more.
My take on it: Although you need to complete subspace emisary to unlock some events and stages, I would still play at least 300 brawls first to unlock a TON of other stuff. Then go thru subspace. Then events.
BTW What is with that last level of subspace? RIDICULOUS!
The maze one? I hated doing that >:(

Woo, I'm Asian too! Asian pride! Okay, you already know that from previous meetings up.
Not going to pick on you FAX, I'm just saying this because it's always a healthy thing to and it's unhealthy thinking you're going to bombard everyone on Brawl. Estimating your skill from the original Smash Bros. is even worse than Melee. There are less characters, less stages, but you know that bit.

No, Tabuu. The Great Maze is easy enough. Tabuu is just annoying.
Tabuu?
lol i smoked tabuu on my second try (The first i got really close) on normal only using 3 characters: Metaknight, Link, and Charizard. You just have to master dodging. The great maze just took forever and it was repetitive. there was really no need for it. You basically had to go back through and beat the whole game again with your choice of characters.
@Ulta: Tabuu is the final boss for the Subspace Emissary. He has tons of health and a lot of one-hit-kill moves. He doesn't really have a background story or anything.
@Starrod: How are you liking the new events? Have you done that samus one on norfair (i think its number 33)? Took me 20 tries.

@Starrod: How are you liking the new events? Have you done that samus one on norfair (i think its number 33)? Took me 20 tries.
Finished them all baby! :D The one about Norfair I believe is where you have to go to the safety capsule before Fox and Falcon do, and remain in there, while having a Sudden Death round? If that's the event, it took me quite a while to remain intact, it was annoying, but as much as the one where you're Diddy Kong and you help DK void against Sheik and erm...I can't remember the other guy, either Yoshi or Fox. I loved Advent of the Evil King, but then again, I'm the Gan Man Fan, of course I love it. The events are great, they have some humor, but they aren't as classical like in SSBM.
You finished Tabuu on Normal? I played it on Hard, he's not a walk in the park there you know.

Subspace Storyline Contents (Well, some of it): ShowHide He freakin' killed Master Hand. Master Hand wasn't to kill Tabuu, so he did a big punch at it. Nothing. Nothing worked. Master Hand then tried it again, but failed miserably and died. It looked so sad. 'Cuz Master Hand is cool, except in Smash Bros...he cheats. And Tabuu cheats too, especially with the Butterfly. Any easy to dodge that when you're at a high percentage? o.o
Tabuu was a cheapass! >:( I showed him a thing or two :P
Man... I wanna play this!!!

Man, I got ripped off.... my disc was defective or something :'( It kept getting errors. Thankfully it stopped being an ass and started working ;D
lol, I've played Brawl already, and I've had a ton of fun with it.
Best Char: Marth or Snake
2nd Best: Ike
3rd Best: Metaknight
4th Best: Link (Shadow style ^^)
Also, this is a funny trick...create an arena with falling blocks OVER spikes, and if you can get the block to respawn while you're under it but hitting the spikes, you'll keep bouncing until your damage is maxed out.
Ike's FS is kickass. Snake's FS is like a KO-fest!
i played at my friends house, I LOVE META KNIGHT! :) i pwn as him :)
Link is the best... any form of him really. He's just... Link. How do you possibly beat ownageness at that level?

Yes, I have found my calling from metaknight as well. although link is a close second. Samus Lucario and Pokemon trainer i also like.

Agreed. Ike can make an easy KO. Snake however, all you need to do is to be able to aim correctly, and once you do, a victory is near certain. It really makes up for his unorthodox play style.

Half and half agree here Faxy Waxy. Toon Link is better in my opinion, first for the speed and second for the minor difference the damage makes. The regular Link is great of course, but I have a feeling he got nerfed or toned down. For example, he doesn't have a memorable finisher as...Snake or Ike (Sorry, examples I cannot think). And he is a little bland.

The B Button move? That is a really nice strategic move. Not to the point of logic, rather to the point of being cheap, but nevertheless, it's good for Meta Knight.

Not really. You have to just hope that there's no idiot that'll just slowly run his way across every single block so then there's no time for them to regenerate back. Other than that, just get a flying character to deal with the travesty.
---
I might as well say my mains and etcetera.
1st, 2nd, 3rd: Ganondorf, Marth, Pokemon Trainer
Honorable Mentions: Snake, Sonic, Wario
Worst: Um...I don't know? Maybe Bowser, he got slower than before. o.o;

Yeah, lots of people noticed that. You can do a lot of secretive nice things on the Stage Builder. For example, those moving platforms can make animated images pretty easily. It's a shame you can't rotate objects upside down and the amount of platforms is limited by space.
Well for me... its with the computers >.> Now THAT is hard with just falling tiles... They're not quite up to par with human intelligence eh?

Indeed. When I play against three Level 9 Computers on a regular Royale, they all seem to go for me rather than anyone else. That shows some lacking in AI.

Ooh, Yoshi. That intrigues me deeply. You have a lot more bad characters than good, better train on those bad guys...Some of them actually have nice Final Smashes.
do Final Smashes matter that much? aren't they like a rarity like the hammers in the first super smash bros?

do Final Smashes matter that much? aren't they like a rarity like the hammers in the first super smash bros?
Excellent question. :P
If you set the Item Rate to Low, expect one or two Smash Balls to appear in a match. For Medium, expect two to three. On High, expect Four to Five. Not all at once of course. There are items that are definitely rarer than the Smash Ball, such as the Golden Hammer (Which is of course rarer than the Hammer, which is semi-rare, it's like trying to find a Chansey in that one route on Pokemon Gold/Silver or Diamond/Pearl).
However, the Final Smashes are incredibly strong. I'll make up a list off the top of my head, from the strongest to the weakest. Please note I don't know everyone's Final Smash extremely well, so these assumptions are primitive.
Good Final Smashes:Sonic (Super Sonic can easily wipe out enemies. Just don't go off the camera)
Snake (Shoot correctly and you do well)
Wario (Invincible mostly, and can pack a punch. Just make sure you actually get the Smash Ball with him)
Marth, Captain Falcon (Both are virtually the same; They attack in a straight line and then they perform a similar one hit kill)
Fox, Falco, Wolf (Landmaster is strong if you can move it correctly)
Lucas, Ness (PK Starstorm can kill someone quickly if at a high percentage)
Pokemon Trainer (If you get hit by this monstrosity, might as well say good-bye)
Meta Knight (Galaxia Darkness, as long as it works, it hits everyone, even your allies)
Okay Final Smashes:Olimar (The Hocotate Rocket is only good if you can aim it correctly. At least you damage some enemies.)
Mr. Game & Watch (Being an octopus is nice, just don't fall when you use it)
Link, Toon Link (Only one person if I can remember correctly)
Ike (Similar to Link and Toon Link really)
Luigi (Negative Zone sucks in actuality, the use of Luigi on Negative Zone correctly makes it better)
Pit (You can kill those Centaurions)
Ganondorf (As long as you're at the same level with them, you can kill them because of the paralysis roar)
Atrocious Final Smashes:Kirby (Expect some more? You can easily dodge Cook Kirby's cooking. Seriously. Just shield. Even Tabuu's Holding moves are harder to evade.)
Donkey Kong (Bongoes aren't the best way to kill someone you know)
Peach (Sure, the sleep is nice, but where's the other stuff? I mean, if you didn't damage your foes much, this Final Smash is useless.)
These aren't all of them, because I don't have some opinions for some. I can say ROB would be either Okay to Atrocious though. And Lucario as well.
my hatred for you all burns with the white hot intensity of a million supernovas ready to become Black Holes.

Playing the game again, against Yoshi even, his Final Smash isn't actually that bad. Although he fly, throw extremely evil eggs, and breathe fire, he isn't the smartest kid on the block. I mean, Sonic can do the equivalent except at a better job, as he's extremely swift along with crashing into people is the way to hurt. Yoshi is all right, but the guy won't die in strange stages. For a computer, you can easily avoid Yoshi's bombarding.
Game & Watch's Final Smash however for a computer completely stinks unless you're in a small stage. Everything is better in a small stage. But the computer, for Game & Watch, oh gosh, he doesn't exactly move very fast, and it doesn't kill you unless you're at horrible percentage like 180 or up.

And I don't final smash that often :-\ Just murder em with Link even if they manage to final smash you, if you pulled off enough kills then you're still fine ;D
Don't want to anger you FAX, but this is just a discussion and I want to know your opinion. Do you think they nerfed Link this time around? I have the feeling he is weaker than before, as some of his finishers...aren't really damaging. And his triple jump wasn't as good as before, along with that Gale Boomerang...just want to know your opinion. :P
Banana Hammock!! :o
Link p00nzors all (period :P). Toon Link is gay >:(!! And Im never going to get brawl sadly i got ps3... waiting on my mgs4 and haze :-\
Yeah but toon link is still link! :o You still gotta respect him. ;D
Valcos, I got to say this though...Toon Link I feel is better than Link, and he's definitely better than Young Link. Seriously.
Similarities:
- Same Final Smash
- Same moves
- Both have Triforce Icon
- Both can appear in the First Stage
- Colorful, with a Shadow Link
Differences:
- Toon Link has an attacking boomerang.
- Better triple jump for Toon Link.
- Toon Link is a secret character.
- Speed.
- Damage inflicting (Although it's not as showing as Young Link's difference)
By-the-by, why did I have Young Link when he's not in Brawl? I consider Toon Link a substitute for Young Link, that's why.
All i gotta say is that Toon Link looks like ballz :-\ And no im not giving him respect.... >:(
If he looked like Balls he would look like this:
And I'm sure Toon Link doesn't look like that.
Give him a try when FAX unlocks the little beast. Providing if he already did, go to his place and hang out. Toon Link isn't the worst character, so yeah.
Technically i said Ballz! >:( And im not allowed to post a picture of those :P
Here's my opinion:
Toon Link is great for movement. He has fast speed, huge jumps, and i think he is the floatiest character is the game. He has a spike and a boomerang that deals damage. What he lacks: Power, range.
Regular Link is great for getting kills. He is pretty heavy and has attacks that deal tons of damage with good knockback. He lacks a spike, but his power and projectiles more than make up for it. His boomerange, although it does not deal damage, CAN be put to good use. Mind games, stopping players, and dodging to name a few. He also has awesome range with his sword. What he lacks: Speed, jumps.
I like toon link better because he is my style: fast with good aerials. Just like metaknight. i don't hate link; in fact, he is #2 on my subspace team because of his durability and damage (metaknight is #1, toon link is #4). I like toon link better for 1-on-1s and Regular link better for 4-player matches.
I haven't played enough with either to get really good. But neither toon link nor regular link suck.
Screw Toon Link!!! >:( Reg. Link ftw!! He is the best character in the game :-\

Hehe, Link is the #4 in my Subspace. If he isn't number #4, he's #6. By the way, let's ask a good question here.
Have you dodged Tabuu's butterfly on a harder difficulty before? If so, how did you do it? For me, I had my awesome Charizard jump up and do three quick shield jumps thingies. By the way, surviving his hits don't mean you dodged them, as anyone can survive on Easy Tabuu or Normal Tabuu. Really now.
You know... I never really saw a big difference between Fox and Falco. Like.. is one more powerful than the other or something? ???
Here comes an inside look on Fox and Falco. Winkio, I never played the two with much comprehension, so you can help me with this.
Similarities:
- Same Final Smash
- Same Moves
- Both have surnames
- Both have F in their beginning first name
- Part of the Star Fox group
Differences:
- Speed (Fox is generally faster, but Falco is also fast)
- Jumping (Falco jumps higher, way higher)
- Ray Gun, or B Move (Falco actually hurts the person, Fox does not)
- Falco is a secret character
- Fox is better for damaging, Falco can make finishers
NOT THE SAME MOVES!!!!!!
Falco has different hit ranges and motions and, well, attacks in general. Also, he kicks his reflector at enemies. I haven't played much with them either, but I know that fox does less damage and hits faster while falco does more damage but attacks a little slower. Also, one has much better air attacks than the other (I think its Falco)
@kirby: Butterfly attack? You mean the one where he goes to the center of the screen and sends out the shockwave-things that kill you instantly (i think its three of them in a row?)? If so, yes by sidestepping on the ground (shield + down) with metaknight, link, samus, and lucario on hard. I haven't tried very hard or intense yet. Too busy target smashing.
Not the same exact moves of course, but I meant the same style. I should've clarified that very much. By speed I already knew Falco is slower, but saying that makes Falco feel like some obese bird that flies oh so low. But I don't play as Falco much, so that's why I wanted your help. :P
Hah, Target Smashing. Me and my sibling already finished all Five levels with every character. Sure it doesn't exactly look pretty on records (As in they're not the fastest), but it gets those Challenges done. And yes, that's what I mean by his Butterfly move. That Shield Down thing seems easier than doing the jump, I'll experiment with that later. Thank you.
Quicknote: Did anyone notice that Pikachu is 'broken'? Fight it on CPU lev 9, I struggles but I won by assist trophy+ ground pound and FS (2 stock match) (I was Yoshi btw)
Anyways, my friend in real life made this for our little team we made up since we been wining alot of online matches.
(http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/8466/pobmb8.png) (http://imageshack.us)
That's really high in resolution. Wow.
And for the Pikachu case, no, not really. Mainly because I use random computers and Pikachu doesn't exactly appear much.
No i meant ulta is insane lol anyway i heard they nerfed Falco with his falling speed and a+down smash move
Hah, then you should've put @Ulta, but that's okay, I'm always insane anyway.
I'm not sure if they nerfed anything with our birdy friend, but you can decide if you want to fall like a rock or just go down slowly with the control of the analog/D-Pad, so I'm not really sure if Falco has a problem on that particular matter. The Smash move, I never exactly used that much, so I have nothing to say. A lot of characters, now that I think about it, feel weaker now, maybe because of a new system or the replacement of moves, but still...
I'm looking forward to Meta Knight.
i can't decide if i'll use wolf, fox, or falco! I thought wolf was just gonna be another clone but in melee Falco was a lot different to Fox I can't say why I just was way better with him but now I've seen Wolf on youtube he looks like almost a completely different character than those two and pretty powerful and still fast.
I remember a little post about Wolf, Fox, and Falco on RMRK.
I kind of did some simple graph, out of assumptions. It's not a graph, more like a number line.
Speed Power
<--------------->
Fox Falco Wolf
This doesn't mean however that Wolf is slow. He's just slower than the two, but has more power than them, and vice versa. Falco is just the happy medium, while being able to jump high. They all have the same final smash. :3
yeah but different a bit still Wolf is still one of the fastest chars in game lol, I've seen some vids and I think he would call upper tier am I right? And Falco still owns all in the air :P
i want to play this game i want to play this game i want to play this game
I wouldn't consider any tiers actually. But I can expect many of the veteran fighters to be either Middle to Low Tier. Seriously. Most of them got nerfed...unfortunately.

not football patriots...they suck
Yuck, I glad the Giants won the superbowl.. but this is no relations to football.
We came up with the name cause Snake is in Brawl and me and my clan like the game so we decide
to base the name from the upcoming MGS game.
Red Yoshi is in the middle showing that Im 1337.
(Also, its what I always picked.. red..)
Why? You'd have to go classic green with yoshi :P But yoshi is always fun to use ;D I still stick with my oppinion that Link is the best though :o

That's probably because you like Link in green don't you? Well, I'll tell you this! In Super Mario World, Yoshi's debut, even though the first Yoshi you get is green, there's a Red, Yellow, and a Blue in that game! They're better than the Green Yoshi, no matter how much you interpret it!
Red: Fire, every underling of Bowser you eat turns into fireballs.
Blue: Flight. This is the best one ever, as any enemy you eat you can fly, instead of eating a blue shell.
Yellow: The worst in my opinion. Makes ground pounds and stomps.
Green: Fire only for Red Koopas, Stomps for Yellow, and Flight for Blue. But there's nothing else special.

Meta Knight is pretty slexy ;D He still doesn't match up to Link though
MK smashes are crap though, so I dont bother play unless theres item involve, and we set up itemless so we can only beat the crap out of each other.
Metaknight is totally different than Link (in terms of style) that it is impossible to compare them. Metaknight has decent smashes but relies mostly on his aerial combos. Link, on the other hand, is all about the smashes and projectiles, with few air attacks. I like the metaknight style more, but link is my 2nd fav.
They made master hand waaaay to easy with sonic - just press b repeatedly. Non of his attacks have the range to hit directly above him, which is where youll be floating around after each hit. Anybody else noticed this?

Well, Toon Link has an advantage over many of the bosses in Subspace. Continuous sword plants on the head will eventually provide an easy way to win, as long as you dodge their attacks gracefully. On an average difficulty or an easy one, Toon Link did extremely well on Rayquaza, all I did was ram at its head and I managed to dodge everything. :\
A lot of the bosses are really easy, except when you fight them in Subspace to capture them like common Pokemon, it gets a little harder.
yep. So what boss is the hardest for you? Duon is the worst for me...i usually reserve one whole heart container for use after his battle.
When playing on the harder difficulties, my least favorite becomes Rayquaza and Duon. Rayquaza being that it really has a lot of defense compared to other bosses and its speedy moves, while Duon is because the machine is sheerly unpredictable. I mean, it can do a big shootout, ram you over, and whatnot, but you can't anticipate it as easy as something like good ol' Petey. This excludes Tabuu right? The only reason Tabuu is annoying because of the dreaded Butterfly move though.
On lower difficulties, it's just Duon, but on higher, Rayquaza joins the pantheon. :P
really? I just did rayq on intense and only took about 40%
Duon is definitely the top, but For me, Meta Ridley (the one while your on the moving ship) is second hardest. Just because you have such a small window off attack time and he is unpredictable.
I'm telling you, when tabuu does the butterfly, just sit on the ground holding shield, and hit down and each shockwave comes close.
Lol charizard takes em down so fast. I did very hard in like 4 minutes with him.
I'm gonna go ahead and say...this game is pretty amazing!!

Co-op mode takes quite a longer time trying to make an attempt to conserve the percentage you deal with. Rayquaza's moves, if you get hit, are fatal enough to get out of the screen and die, you know?
I know, I have to experiment.
Hah, I finished Very Hard (On co-op) in two minutes! ^_^_^_^_^_^
got this... Kirby and Shiek are still awesome. meta knight is ok, Pokemon Trainer wins, hate the nerfing to Power Suited Samus's speed... and jump, love Lucario's FS, but seriously loving Shiek's FS *in row* *fire* *YOU JUST GOT OHKOed BITCH!* excuse my language.
I have resently been playing alot of Brawl lately :xD: and im really good with Wario and Snake! :w00t:! Like snake can set traps everywhere and shoot rockets and wario has like motorcycle and farts and stuff :rockit: Pretty awesome :shaft:
Wario has so little range with many of moves and not a lot of finishers. His fart move is very good if you hold it for two minutes and find the perfect execution. Use the motorcycle correctly. You can eat items, a lot of them, you may want to chomp on a bomb if it's safe. A 6% damage, but that's minor. Snake is recently obtaining a new line of fans, despite most of them not knowing how to use his missiles, mines, and grenades correctly. :scared:
My mains happen to be Marth and Pokemon Trainer. I never use mains though and play Random the whole time anyway. Being exceptionally good with everyone is better than...yeah.
:stfu: no it aint! :P I think i just like snake because of the playing of MGS4 but i am actually learning how to use his bombs. Like the grenade launcher when you shoot it up high, then the mines you can plant and its really sneaky, then the other mines where you click the button, then we have the rocket laucher shit really sneaky :P efs me up sometimes because im stuck like that for a bit holding the launcher :urgh: He has cool kicks to :D and dont for get the box!!!! :xD:
I said most people don't understand Snake's true ability. His side smash is a very good finisher, it can KO as well as Ganondorf, but it takes quite a while to use. His Up Smash is a very good damaging move, as long as you time it. The Down Smash is an alternate mine. Snake is fast when he needs to be, and that has to be noticed, especially when snagging items.
Most people don't know how to use the grenades correctly. That's his B move, FYI. What I mean is that Snake can hold the grenade like a regular item before it explodes. He can also aim very well. His missile can be canceled. I'm not going to mention how. I bid adieu. :)
I think you can cancle the missiles using the block buttom or something ::) cant remember. But i aint to good with his side smash when he shoots the rocket at the ground never time it right . Also aint to good with the grenades i just chuck them into mosh pits :shaft: Oh and i hate it when people use the gamecube controller! :poke:! Piss' me off they can use the c-stick to use moves! :wong:
The Gamecube controller is the widely used controller. Many experts use it. However, it can be considered a handicap. I recently got out of using Gamecube because of the undeniable crap quality of my Gamecube controllers. After all, it's years later after Melee...
:n00b: They are for :n00b: 's Its all about the wiimotes :P. Thats what you are suppose to use not the game gamecup controllers :wong:! :argh:
People use Gamecube controllers because they are at their best with it. The Wii Mote's problem is that there is no analog making easy distance going. However, that's where the Nunchuk comes in. It settles the problem. At least Sakurai implemented the custom control settings. :)
W/es i p00n  And i make the best stages aswell :shaft:
I like Toon Link and Ike, those are my fave new guys
Wolf Pit & Pikachu Ftw.
Naw its all about snake and jigglypuff 8) those are my best guys :haha:
Character choices are simply a matter of opinion and preference. If your strategy relates to this, then you would have a certain leniency towards those characters. It doesn't really matter who I really become, I choose Random most of the time and play leisurely, not competitively.
Wow... soft. Whats the fun of playing if you're not in it to win :???:
I am in it to win it. It's just that I'm not putting my reputation along the line or anything. If I'm playing, sure, I'm trying to win, and if I'm playing against my friends, I'll definitely win, but I'm just not trying anymore. For example, I don't use my mains as much, I use random characters instead.
Whos your mains? :???:
I thought I mentioned it here before...Well, as a refresher, it's Marth and Pokemon Trainer. If I obtain them from random, then go figure, I'll do the Ivysaur, get the Charizard Shuffle, and pervert it up with Squirtle. Marth is just my aggressive Armageddon.
Hm, I never did mention it...How strange.
Yes, I somewhat agree with SRK: It's stupid to only use one or two characters. I actually developed my alternate characters from just playing random. at first, I went with toon link, samus, and lucario. Now, I play three characters which I never would have considered as alternated: Yoshi, Pikachu, and kirby.
Where I disagree is that you should play random ALL or even MOST the time. I play metaknight (my main) most of the time because he is the most fun (I connect with his style the most). I play my alternates for a change of pace, and random just to mess around. but its no fun to just mess around all the time. Improving skills with a select group of characters is what the game is all about. It's much more fun to kick some ass than to mess around.
Since I don't have too many people to play with, I just see how many times I can kill a random level 9 before I die. Right now, my record is 5 with metaknight.
what starroid's trying to say..he's god..he owns u all :] with anyone
I do choose my own characters from time to time, since Random has a way of saying "Screw You" and ending me up with a completely jacked up character I never like, and the characters I pretty much select would be Lucario, ROB, Luigi, Falco, Snake, Sonic, Kirby, and a few other characters. I don't play seriously anymore, I just don't have some motivation. Usually I just fight a bit, fight some more, then when there's a lot of room around and nothing's happening I just taunt abuse, especially with Ivysaur. *sigh*
@Chaze: After all, once you're the best you get bored of the rest as they aren't a challenge anymore. >:3
Psh... ill p00n you up with Wario :???:
BCH ILL OWN U ALL WITH PIKACHU. >.>
I dear say I'vve not played this much. My 'mains' as of yet would be fox and zelda. Fox is uber sweet and goes down smooth with little to no after-taste. Zelda got game, with her vicious smashes and Din's Fire. Love that attack. I dislike Pit becasue he can be spammed by all the noobs as well as Ike. Marth is fun but I've yet to get in to his rhythm.
Yeah... alot of my friends like Pit, Ike, and Marth :<_<: I never used them before.... except Marth when I was helping my friend with the story mode crap :^_^':
Marth is nice and fast, but he lacks any ubers imo. That being said Fox ain't got nothing for attacks cept his uAir and uSmash.
Pit: Beginner material. He's a swift guy, a lot of his attacks deflect (His special moves at least) and he can fly, which many players do not how to use (The flying similar to Charizard, not his B-Up Flying). I have fun with him time to time, but I tend to abuse B-Right/Left, and I don't like to use him constantly.
Ike: Has a long melee range, proving to be pretty nice. He's strong, but not as slow as Ganondorf, which really gives some great opportunities. His moves take up a lot of space, and a lot of them are REALLY strong. There's a few fast moves you can slot in with Ike, so it doesn't make him very useless. Just be careful when recovering...
Marth: Swift, aggressive, and in the hands of a good player, you should watch out. Give Marth no room. Don't keep your range, there's a special bonus if the tip of the sword hits the player. Now, as Marth, some of the moves prove to be pretty strong, especially at higher percentages. The B-Up for example can kill a player when high enough. :X
And I don't know why I typed this out...I must be bored.
Pit: Angel Ring is a spammers delight. I get so mad at my friends who just get me up against the wall and spam it till im at 200 xD. Well....Not when I'm Fox >:3 No one catches me *Sonic catches Fox* D:
Ike: Everyone spams Aether. God it makes me angry. He's slow but not that slow so he can really beat you down if you like to fight up close. Solution: Blaster spamming >:3
Marth: My friend is so bad at Marth I can't even tell if he got buffed from Melee. That being said, I didn't play Marth much and I barely played melee... D:
No one likes it when people call the move by its official name. I mean, it's the epitome of Brawl nerdiness. Not every player would understand what moves those can be anyway, so the universal language would be B-Up or something. Of course, Aether is an exception, but nevertheless.
I think your just sore that you won't take the time to memorize them
Now this is just a matter of devoting time to being a giant Brawl fan or just a casual/leisure player. I remember the Final Smash names, but it's just as easy to say Jigglypuff's Final Smash instead of Puff Up. It's somewhat also more of an outside reaction thing, where if you say this move name or this super intricate crazy explanation to someone and then they assume you waste how much time on Brawl!? XD
Oh well.
i <3 pkachu :]
Ahhh, well I down't memorize any of the FSs. It's not about wasting time to play Brawl, it's more of how much you care to memorize the attack names. Does it help in-game? Nope, not at all. Is it easier when explaining? Nope, about the same. It's more of a method of fandom than anything else, one that I find satisfying. Do you need to know the names to 100 different haruhi doujins and the release dates of the original japanese shows AND how they appear cronologically in the show? No, but it's a symbol of pride. geeky, maybe so, but I won't question your choices as long as they don't hurt me.
ALSO: Chaze we know you love pika. Tell me WHY you love him. Talk about aerials or his spammable DownB...
i <3 his left&right B hes very swift and has a nice save..and im pretty good with using his thunder. *uses thunger to get smash ball also attacking marth who jumped up into it*
I happen to like him for those same reasons plus his nice aerials. Try using those. he has good smash range as well.
I... need... Brawl... now... xD
I don't play it much because I don't have it, but if I did, then I wouldn't be spending any time scripting or forum-ing, just playing Brawl, so I guess it's for the best :D
I pretty much only stuck with Link in Melee, and since Brawl has him in a Dark costume, there's no way I'd leave the guy (except once in a while when I try and figure out if I like Link or Toon Link more...)
I won't say that I pretty much win every round I play around here, but I will say that I have an alarming tendency of winning (except during that one tournament where I didn't win once T_T). So yea, my mains would be Link and Toon Link.
Link got nerfed. 'Kay thanks, bye.

How close of a match is it when you win? As in, do you "stock" the opponents? Stocking is where you have at least two lives left, it's a close match or a good game at the least if there's one life left for each character. :)
lol
Yea, I usually have at least two lives left at the end of a match. But usually the matches are good (unless you're battling someone who won't stop spamming the same attack (note that I didn't mean taunts. You can spam taunts all you want. I'll just attack you in the middle of it, that's all ^_^) over and over and over). If I lose, then it usually was a close round (In that tournament I mentioned, both losses were incredibly close).
And you reminded me. I once had a birthday party with my friends and we played Melee in ... I believe it's called Loser Out mode, and it's... under Tournament? I forget because I never use that option. xD Anyways, we played for about... two hours, and in that time I got 2nd place once. Every other time it was first place. That's scary...
I use Sonic and Pikachu a lot. For some reason, I began to use those characters over others without realizing it, and I was usually fighting 80% Sonic/Pikachu before I realized what I was doing. Since I'd become quite good with them, I decided to make the best of it and learn lots of things to do with them. 8)
And I usually beat out single L9 chars with 1 life left, which I figure makes me about average. :D
Yeah, it's all great like that, using your favorite characters that end up as your favorites in other games...Real classy. I feel Level 9s aren't the best source of practice, yet Subspace on Intense isn't a good practice source either. Classic Mode can easily turn stressful on Intense, yet All-Star can lead to the Level 9 practice problem...Humans players are nice, but online play lags the whole game up and doesn't show true skill...What do you think the best practice source would be? o,o

Well, if I could get you to come over to my house... :)
Other then that, I'll stick with whatever's fastest.
I either 4 stock my oppoenent(5 stock game) or I lose. xD
It strange but I don't barely win, I can only crush people or be beaten. There's no almost.
Im not too totally awesome. I can't fight more than one lv 9 and I can't switch between characters... like, if I'm playin Ike, then try to play Toon Link, I'll fail horribly for a game or three. then I might get into Toon Link.
Shiek is fast, but I liked her better in Melee, I was better in Melee too, I noticed, then I stopped playing for a few years. anyway. she has good melee moves, has some decent killers, has a good enough recovery, her up B, if you are good with it, can be quite useful, as a damager, and escape source.
Ike is slow, but if you know him, the speed doesnt end up being much of a problem. it took me a few days to get used to him. he has a counter, which automatically makes him useful.
stuff. im bored.
Yeah, Im kinda the same. If im snake I either totally own for like 10 rounds straight or i flop for like 3 rounds :^_^':. Cause we usually do free for all 4 way with 3 stock each. I was really good with Wario before but never really won so then when i got into MGS again I just turned to snake and i loved him :shy:. But... if i play on the Zelda map thats a bridge or w.e (dont know what its called... dont even have the game :P) I can never win. Its way to flat for my liking. >:(
Bridge of Eldin. I hate the stage.
Yeah thats it..... I never won on it before. My friends kept going there cause I wouldnt be albe to kill anyone :<_<:
Some people consider Bridge of Eldin a stage you can fight on for official tournaments and items like that, but that's obviously just idiotic. The whole stage is flat indeed, but the bridge destruction poses a problem as well. Final Destination is one of the true fair stages, and there's a fair share of others, Smashville is considered one, but nevertheless.
Hehe... I love Bridge of Eldin!
Especially when I'm Zelda or Pit...
My mains from melee are still my mains in Brawl:
Zelda/Sheik
Peach
Ice Climbers
And now with these newcomers, there's Pit and the occasional Olimar.
I kinda like Olimar... dont like facing him when im snake cause of the little things that attach to me but his special is cool :haha:. And I like Final Destination... just the bridge is so horribly bad that along with the donkey kong throwing the barrel map >:(
Zelda totally rocks..Sheik.....I can't see what people like about her...Zelda is better imo, but I suppose the best is a nice balence with both :\
I hate final destination ;_; Caues I never aim correctly to get right below the ledge and latch on....
I just like it cause Snake can be good sometimes in cqc :haha:

Sheik's ability is being really, really, fast.
Plus, she's got devestating throws. Though for true devestation, I prefer Sonic and Pikachu's backwards throw near the edge of ground stages... :D
Yeah Sheik is fast but speed doesn't win the match if you haven't got the skill. I'm not saying using Bowser guarantees the match though....
Fox's original FThrow was 1337 ;_;
Rather, speed and aggression does get you far; it's been proven by Marth, Falco, and other fast monsters like those two. Someone with sole speed and no good attack can't do anything well, such as Captain Falcon, who used to be so good, but now he turned into a sloppy mess. Not saying he stinks now, but he got nerfed badly. At least Falcon Punch still does a whopping.
Everything used to be 1337...>_>
Tournaments I usually will play in have banned Sonic from the roster, as well as smash balls. The reason is simple actually. Sonic is an absolute cheap shot, and in reality should NOT have been added in to Brawl. Want a good replacement character? I think anyone would be better than Sonic as a brawl character, because they just made him too powerful.
My hatred of Sonic actually stems to a tournament that was held at my school in which some jerk claimed it to be hosted by the club I was vice president in. He allowed Smash Balls and he entered the tournament (which are two taboos right there. If you ORGANIZE a tournament, you should NOT be entering the fucking tournament because if you win, you have everyone hating the GROUP that was said to have organized it, not the INDIVIDUAL who lied and actually did organize it...plus he cheated the club out of $50) I enter tournaments with friends, and I can usually get to the Semi Finals rounds using either Marth, Ike, or Captain Falcon.
Marth method: Counter Attack abuse. Marth has good speed, though it's fairly nerfed compared to his Brawl self. It's not too difficult to use Counter Attack, just don't spam it. I beat the guy who was using Sonic all the time with smash balls active by using a Dancing Blade combo, juggling him in the air til his damage was over 200% and then the smashball shows up. He gets it and I kill his ass, taking the ball and killing him the second his invincible wears off.
Ike Method: Ike is a powerhouse. He may be slow, but his attacks are vicious. Though in all honesty it feels a bit like choosing M.Bison or Akuma in Street Fighter, a character whose power is only in his speed.
Captain Falcon Method: This is actually a gag for me. I love to falcon punch people out of the arena, especially doing last-second kills by falcon punching them form the edge, then when they try to come back, jump from the edge, falcon punch them OFF the screen, and the timer running out before I hit the bottom barrier...
O.o you have Falcon Punching skills to do a midair Punch correctly.
It's all about the timing and the vulnerability of a person. You can easily hone your Falcon Punching in Training Mode. After all, jumping and beating up a Computer does so much fun. It's kind of like the original Smash Brothers, where Reflector and Falcon Punch at the edge do so much help.
The original Smash had the most balenced roster and the most simplistic game play. It really came down to good timing and some techniques like spiking. It was about mastering completely all your moves, honing your timing and judging distance. now it seems to be a contest of who is the cheapest. Everyone just complains about how much so-and-so has fast smashes ANd other great moves so that they can make an excuse for losing. In the end, Nintendo should cut down on the characters and rotate in some new ones. Inevitably Nintendo will just add more and more to satisfy everyone's wishes until the game is more of a "who can I play now in this game" than a true fighter.
Well, a game tends to get more old and outdated as it reaches the third installment. But some cases of Brawl were really bad. For example, the useless amount of trophies from the latest spin-off games in Nintendo were really uncool, and some stages don't have so much of a true secret towards them. A lot of features have been touched upon but not used optimally like Melee, and the game's main attractions are good yet bad. The game balances all of its wide variety of modes and it suffers from it.
I wish they'd make the stages bigger... I remember how big all the stages used to feel and not just ina "big" multi-level stage. like wide open areas to run and grassy plains :haha:
I notice that this same thing happened with Halo 3. At the school I was attending, Halo 3 was the biggest event ever. There were hordes of kids wearing "Finish the Fight" t-shirts, someone had a Master Chief Helmet, etc. After it was released, Halo 3 wasn't mentioned by anyone... which was pretty eerie.
Bottom Line: The second is usually better than the third.
hmm, although, with the added characters, I rather prefer Brawl over Melee, but it did nerf some characters, in terms of shiek the biggest complaint is down a in midair, that was nerfed a bit...
...
The first time I played Brawl and used Sheik...
I kept on dying because of Down A...
Sheik was soooooooo different (and better) in Melee...
But Zelda improved imo.
oh my god I loved Melee Shiek.
WHY DID YOU CHANEG THE DOWN A?!

Don't worry, you can just spam Falco's Down A! XD
I dont like Falco.
SH Blaster spamming with Falco... 8)
I dont like the Fox characters...
I fall off the edge too much.
All of the Star Fox characters are swift yaoi furries that like to use guns (not just their blaster 8) ) and other sci-fi miscellany to wipe out their opponent...
Though they're all agile characters, that does make them uncontrollable at times. I find that Falco was the easiest for me to control, and Wolf was a disobidient doggie a lot of the times, especially with the Side B going at bad places. Fox though is fast, but he's weak...Really weak. I don't remember any good finishers with him...
EPIC WIN! POST 333!!!
uAir if you can pull it off is great for juggling BUT Fox #1 move is the uSmash...Epicly great...Makes a nice combo with tap a right to the uSmash. I remember his hold-DownA was nice for popping up an enemy and his dSmash was great to set up a shine spike.
Im flipping sick at BRAWL! Actually... Im just good a shit talking people while we play. But thats part of brawl so im sick at it? :O.o:
Lots of people claim they are very good at Brawl, but they don't live up to that reputation.
I wouldn't go braggadocio and say you're the best at Brawl or something. Online matches can't determine a single thing because of the high amounts of lag, and it's a very imbalanced game. It's always been. No one cares though. I don't. :P
It's just all goes with my belief in leisurely playing Brawl. 8)
Mmm... claiming you're really good at Brawl really doesn't mean /too/ much because you'd eventually lose...
Usually when I face someone new online (1v1 with less lag :P), I win the first few matches then it becomes more even because my opponent figures out my style of fighting (and I start to get bored)
Yeah so...
Wouldn't it be cool if we had a CP Brawl tournament? :P
No, it wouldn't.
It would actually. However I personally won't be in it because I frankly don't really care. XD Besides, we all know you're going to execute your cheap techniques with Zelda and all. >:V
There would be enough people and all...just that we need to have mass organizational skills and there needs to be a good reward. Wasn't this idea brought up already? o.o
EDIT: Found it...

Lol... yeah i dont have a wii? :(... Actually im not sad. I got a playstation. But for the sake of brawl im sad :P. Im actually not that good at all. But like i said... im jokes to play with :D.
yep, Brawl was the last truly great game for the Wii. sadly enough, i haven't played brawl in months. It's boring playing only with yourself or friends that always use the same characters and styles. And online always lags. The original (N64) is much more fun to play with my friends because you can't do the same strategy with every character (the air dodge/a-air or the specials) - there's more variance and more specialization. Brawl was good for a game, but it just doesn't hold one's attention unless you and your friends play it a LOT.
this place i go to on tuesdays has a nice Brawl Tournament, i never got past the second rond, but im planning on soon winning a tourney.
anyway, id be interested in a Brawlie Tourney.
I was better at the N64 one 8). Link FTW :haha:. Dont like him in Brawl! But like Winko said... unless you face different people or w.e it gets kinda boring. :<_<:
Precisely. Fighting against the same, same, people, same matches, is boring unless you're training for an impending event of awesomeness.
Brawl somehow makes a good fighting game for tournaments when it clearly shouldn't from the imbalances. Sakurai easily made a great game, but the third time isn't ever the charm in cases of sequels...Except for Mario Bros., that was a classic. :)
Mario is timeless.......Any sequel will be either decent or disowned.... :X
Anime conventions usually hold video game tourneys...Try a local one Ulta
Yeah, but anime tourneys are full of weeabooes and obnoxious Asian players who think they're the best by using the most cheap strategies ever to exist upon Brawl...Like infinite chain comboes or something. I'm making a generalization at the least.
In an anime tournament, at least one person will use Marth, Toon Link, or Falco...@_@
CP Brawl Tourney anyone? We'd have to make a new topic to post all of our friend codes, but it would be sweetness :)

And it's also the only option for some people. hey, when you have your back to the wall, you take what you got...And people play those characters becauswe they're good x.x
I prefer Ike to Marth. I had to get a slow character, to make sure I have atleast one at my disposal. to my surprise after a weekend of training with the guy i didnt suck and now am better with him on some days than i am with Kirby.

I laugh if you consider Zelda a heavy character, since if so, then Zelda's been packin' on the pounds...My oh my.
If I were to choose a Heavy Character, it would be Ike or Ganondorf. Hate that the so called King of Evil's all nerfed up, it's a giant shame...:/
Captain Falcon takes the cake for any character..No arguing...Ok arguing but I win
Zelda was a joke, if you see, I was just commenting on her NICe smashing, and hell yes she's been packing on the pounds
yeah, Ganon was nerfed quite badly.
speakin of teh dork.(whales doohikey)
my friend was usin ganon to fight a dedede. he was getting pwnt. so on his last life, and the other second to last, he did a suicide and got them both. i mean, he did the over b in midair over a deadly fall.
also
I have this stage where theres two go throughable platforms, too far for most characters to jump across too, and two large wheels directly above them, which is where the fighting is too take place.
well. this one time me and a bunch of friend played there. we had smash balls out.
I was Ike.
you can see where this is going.
there was empty space between the wheels and platforms. its on the largest possible stage setting.
I got the FS.
I was on my last life.
I got someone with the FS.
we both died via falling. when Ike brought his sword down for the trip thats suppesed to smash the enemy in to the ground.
Um... Whats Snake concidered? I use Wario and evil turtle man sometimes for jokes :haha:
Probably a middle ranged character in terms of weight and such. He's the slowest human (Ganon doesn't really count as a human...), or at least that's what I remembered from some source I read. I wouldn't consider him so heavy because he can be nimble when he needs to be (He's just slow acting from all the stealth and the tight clothing I bet), but I wouldn't consider him agile because of his slowness...:/
Um... hes pretty nimble! He might not have sprinting speed but im pretty sure he can sholder roll out of the way >:(! Hes a stealth kinda character anyways... not good for 1v1 imo.

Yeah, in my experiences Snake is always better when you can catch your opponents by suprise.
He's a serious "hit and run" style char, so if your opponent is able to just charge at you w/out distraction, the odds are stacked against you.
Of course, he can be utilized in a straightfoward style if your enemy has high enough damage...
Of course, Fox is amazing in 1v1 battles, and should be recognized for that. Sheik is fun to use as well, and toon link really plants the hurt on the enemies with his...sword..plant...
Lol... thats exactly how i use snake xD. Hit then run my ass off then hit them again :haha:. Works sometimes if i time it right but if not i get rocked hard. :(
urr i has problem.
people.
gimme like, tips, on how to be an uber epicced out Iker. i need to pwncrap by like November.
I cant help you there :<_<:. But why?
Just play as Ike as much as you can. See how the Level 9 COMs play as Ike, see how the Computers play as Ike in Single Player Modes, and view videos on Youtube of people playing as Ike. You may surprise yourself at what techniques can be done.
Other than that, take advantage of his moves, find a strategy that can defeat every character, and you'll be in clear waters.
If you try to learn to play Ike from CPU's then you're simply insane- the CPU's are the most terrible characters ever. Ike serves only as a punisher- he's there to correct the mistakes of your opponents. He's extremely high risk/reward, but the problem is he can never initiate the risk part while still being useful, a projectile user will destroy an Ike because the Ike player loses their advantage and the risk suddenly spikes with no change in reward. He's far too laggy to be used in any real competitive enviorment.
That's why Meta Knight is top tier (yes, they have a tier list now). Meta is not only fast, but almost lagless. Meta Knight is the only character that can combo more than four hits (I say four hits because ZSS can do a 4 hit, although I don't think others are capable of true combos at all) and he's an amazing pressurer. I'm not a Meta player though, he's boring to play as.
I play as Luigi most of the time, Falco competitively (but he's so booooring D=) because Luigi is just rawx and Falco... well you might as well just spike yourself. My hat is an amazing Lucario player too, leaps and bounds ahead of my Luigi (she's total hax) because Lucario is also a very low lag character. Really, tiers is all about Risk/Reward. Meta Knight has lowest Risk for high Reward, so he's top, then Snake (who will probably fall due to his lag time, but then again he's not necessarily up there for being lagless so much as for complete stage control- something only Link can really match), then Falco and so on. Ganon and Falcon are just terrible characters at this point, the knee has lost it's godly status (this was key to Falcon's Metagame, without it he's a rather crap character as Brawl beautifully demonstrates) and Ganon's just a slow Falcon. No real defenses, lack of combos take away the real awesometabulousness of most of his moves, and with his primary move gone he's just... fail. I'll go cry in a corner now.
:/ Ike can be win. I know that, i pwnt with him in the tourney until last week.
*disclaimer: i don't really play as Ike, although some of my friends do.
I think Ike is more of a character that always goes big - every hit has to count. He has few good combos, so he works best as an offense/defense character, not all-out offense. My advice is get in range and force a mistake from the opponent. Doing anything really obvious with Ike in terms of trying to attack won't work, because he is too slow, but doing the unanticipated pays off big time. Especially with his smashes. For example, when they run at you, do an up-b or roll towards them to try and find an opening. Because if you miss with a smash, you are kinda screwed. Also, keep changing it up: counter every once in a while, but not all the time, to keep your opponent on edge. I like to counter recvoery moves whenever possible, but be careful you don't die. Big thing with Ike: don't stay focused on attacking. If you back off then go right back, you can keep surprise on your side and dish out tons of damage. Chasing your oppenent around rarely works with Ike, from my experience.
That's my synopsis. It may sound sorta-like a general strategy for most characters, but w/e. I prefer fast and combos to slow and damage.
I used to play as Ike, so here's my general input:
Ike is a punisher, he has limited options when it comes to offense or approaching, so the defensive game is your best bet. Simply avoid, mess with your opponent (this is technique that's applicable for ALL characters) and find an opponening- then punish. Punish hard. A single move will send your opponent a good distance, and put you in a good offensive position. Your opponent will likely be in the air, or falling towards the ground, which means that you can use an f-air and cancel it with the landing animation, then go back into a defensive stance if you happen to miss or they dodge. If you do hit, they're probably off the edge and you're in a position to meteor smash, and if that doesn't kill simply edgeguard as they attempt to recover. If you're invincibility frams have run out as they do their recovery attack, you can either fall down in a counter stance for the kill (risky as you need a fast recovery) or leap into the air and prepare to counter their stage return.
Generally your standard combo is your best tech-breaker, it's one of Ike's fastest moves (it's a very nice move for it) and the combo sends them into the air so you can begin your offense. A good approach is his side-b + normal combo, assuming you end the dash right before you reach your opponent. If you do that, you can actually link the end of the dash into your standard combo with little/no lag and begin your offense again. If they DI towards you, they're smashable, if they die away you can fair them. Either way your offense begins, but be prepared to leap into counter stance.
As an Ike player you should remember your sheer power and use it to your advantage, to prevent your opponent from returning to the stage. A hit off the edge with Ike is pretty much a stock. Remember though, that being off the edge is a huge risk/reward game for Ike, as his recovery is easily one of the worst, and you have to make sure you can make it back okay. I suggest his backwards-jumping and then using your back-air, it's his fastest move and easily one of the strongest, if one move is god it's Ike's back-air, and it gives him the time he needs to appropriately recover.
Now projectile users, they destroy Ike's defensive game entirely because you can't simply wait around now, you have to go on the offensive. So use your side-b to approach, remember to powershield any attacks that come your way mid-dash, and then go into either the standard a combo or do a backflip into a b-air. Either way the moves are fairly lagless so you can easily reach counter stance, except now you'll have a better position- close range- meaning they're more likely to initiate a melee assault (so you can return your defensive game). Now, if they attempt a retreat simply repeat the process, but the distance will undoubtedly be shorter and the projectile-lag they'll suffer will allow for an easy hit. Remember you can't always use these techniques simply because they become predictable, however they're probably your best options. Mix up your lagless moves, and focus primarily on punishing mistakes until they're vulnerable. They're most vulnerable after you've hit them, as you restrict their options and increase yours. Ike's nair is also a very good move if you want to use it (although never use it before a recovery, as there's a good chance you'll fall to your death during the animation) but it's laggy so land-cancel it.
interesting.
Lol... very interesting. :^_^':
Im doin very good with Ike now.
I like to read, fyi.
Lol you like to read? Im not going to lie... kinda lost interest in Brawl now. My friend got Rock band on his Wii tho so we just play that :P Im effing sick :^_^':
yeah, kinda the same. The Wii has just totally killed its own momentum. It's almost been two years and the greatness that created it, titles such as Zelda, Mario, Metriod Prime, Sonic, etc., has now all been wasted on pointless Wii Ware Games and Wii Fit. They have give the gamer nothing since Mario Kart and Brawl half a year ago. Or if they have, I haven't heard about it. I haven't played my wii in forever...

Hey, I'm into Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and of the like. But then again I'm an avid rhythm player.
The Wii's going for casual for quite a while. Animal Crossing is kind of hardcore for those nuts, but it's overall a casual game unfortunately. That's the next big hit coming at the least.
So...I only play Brawl leisurely and just choose random most of the time. I prefer timed matches over stocked and I can care less if items are on or not. I still have competitive roots though.
HEYYYYY... I don't spam Aether. Aether Spammers are horrible. I spam Quick Draw, if i spam something. but i usually play much fairer. i usually Quick Draw in midair, truthfully. and on accident >.>

All challenges or all hammers?
Nothing happens...Though I wonder if completing all challenges with all hammers would get a different result.
I don't know anything about all challenges, I would assume it'd achieve a similar effect to Kirby Air Ride where it turns all gold and then you have the Completion music playing. It'll be really epic. :)
damn, I searched online, and nothing really happens. >:(
Ikes are really annoying in free-for-all. A lot of them just stand around hitting forward smash/forward tilt/Eruption and catching everyone else off-guard while they're busy fighting. It doesn't help when you can see it coming, but the person who's just locked you in a jab combo can't.
I'm a Ganondorf user, myself. :P

Gee, that's a big statement to say. Sonic is just a fast guy, but controlling his speed and actually manging to dish out those blows can work out for you. It just requires you to think a little more on the offensive.
And I can't trust the statement that you're very good at Smash. :V:
Almost wish there should be a tournament, if only the lag online is gone. -_-; Why can't it be like Mario Kart Wii?
No, Sonic's terrible. He's fast, but it means nothing if his attacks are just average- he's still easy to counter, his moves have a good amount of lag, and he's got terrible hitboxes. Fast ground speed only pressures the opponent to think faster, but once they're in the air you lose that advantage as well, and it's not much of a big one since you have to think faster too. Bad damage, bad knockback, decent lag, bad damage taking, and good ground speed. Just a poor character overall. Plus, his specials are neasr unusable, as they actually LIMIT your approach options.
He's not the worst character, Captain Falcon has absolute failure as priority and mediocre moves at best, but then again he's the bottom of the bottom for a reason. He's far from a good one though.
Playing that many characters can't be that good for you, as fully learning a character takes a lot of time for most people. I wont believe anyone here's good or bad until I play them in a game of Smash that isn't made out of lag.
Actually, I heard that the best smash player, pre-Brawl, was a Captain Falcon player. Ironically, he is low tier.
And playing many characters is half the fun I'd say. Experimenting is more fun to me than being a good smash player. I'd rather have some good, wholesome fun than get really good. Not like anyone actually cares about Brawl in the long run.
Im good at Smash since n64 i just loved it so much.....Unadultrated Violence :P But Anyway
It's fun for me.
Zelda and link are my 2 Fav.
It's ironic Meta, you have the No Doubleposting in 24 hours rule in your signature and yet you doubleposted within 20 minutes.
I have taken the liberty of combining the posts and deleting the doublepost.
Wait, has metaknight, the brawl character, been banned from lots of tournies still? :O.o: He was my fav...
There was also a Melee player who was good with Pichu, who was near the bottom. Also, that may have been in 64, I don't know, but in Melee the best was Ken- a Marth player.
Tiers do not make a player, but they do list characters based on how good they are. Yes, a pro played Pichu, but Pichu isn't better for it.
MetaKnight is soft banned, but not hard banned so you can still use him.
Meta knight the second best Char in GAME!w00t ^^
Who is "first"?
The Brawl Tier List goes as follows:

Good to see this. Of course, skilled people are skilled people, no matter what character they used, but its fun to look at.
The tiers don't necessarily mean that the character is bad, as you can be quite good with any character you're comfortable with.
No, tiers mean a character is good or bad. That doesn't make the player good or bad. You're trying to say the same thing, but wording it funny :P A player can be good with any character. Tiers are simply character capability, it's a perfect player vs perfect player scenario. For example, tournament listings put Falco in second, Captain Falcon and Sonic somewhere in the middle, and Ike near the bottom. Tiers do not make a player however they are a judge of character potential. You can be good with anybody and there are pros known for using the worst, but that doesn't invalidate tiers at all, it just means the players are good.
Well, it looks like Tiers have somehow marched into this little thread. ...I was hoping that was not to happen. >.> I mean, there's a giant amount of people who are not very supportive of tiers, especially concerning the last game where Roy was considered a low tier. That caused a lot of fangirls of Roy to go crazy. What's the source for that Tier List by the way? Is it the most canon of Tier Lists (Can't say official since all Tier Lists are unofficial :P ) e.g. the Tiers List for Pokemon on Smogon ?
It's the "official" one, basically the most recognized one that the Smash Back Room decided on. It's still Version 1, which means that it's subject to change as the metagame evolves. Wavedashing was discovered 2 years into Melee's metagame, and it changed everything drastically.
And people are generally unsupportive when their characters come last, but it's still interesting to know. It doesn't affect anyone's skill with the character, and shouldn't be used to decide who you use or not, in fact it should motivate you to be better with lower tier characters if anything.
You're more likely to see characters higher on the tier list however, so it's a good way to know who to prepare for most.
SILLY NEWBIES, TIERS ARE FOR QUEERS!
XD
Well, I'm known to BAN characters outright from tournaments. Namely, I ban the following:
Sonic
Pit (Sorry kid, spammable Melee skill + Spammable projectile = too far)
I think that's all I ban really...
OH, and I ALWAYS ban all Smash Balls...they just give a seriously unfair advantage to whoever grabs them, it offsets the match too much.
:/ and its not too hard to get it if it spawns right in your FACE.
yeah, I don't play with items at all, because they are way overpowered in brawl. Just clean combat on a normal stage (normal meaning there is nothing that can hurt you and the stage doesn't move (although platforms can)) I just started playing again and wow, metaknight really is op. the combos are just... devastating once you master them.
yeah.
Lucario is pretty fun :D
Eh, I need to play with some more competitive people. i always 3-stock lvl 9s (in a 3 stock game, but that isn't very hard) and I only have one friend who is good.
Are friend matches un-laggy yet? (the wifi ones)
That depends on the internet connections of the players and the distance... I think... lol
Mmm... when I played with Star, all the way across the country, it rarely lagged.
Then when I played with Ulta, only a few states away, it almost never lagged.
Sooo... *pokes sig* XD
Edit: As in... I wouldn't mind brawling with you, wink.
It shouldn't matter with distance unless it's totally far away or something. Internet connection (Or your Internet Service Provider) would be the best source. I played someone in the Midwest area, it was lag-fest all the way. I'd have to assume his wireless or my wireless stunk. Maybe distance is a possible factor that is taken with Internet Connection, who knows.
And Aqua, I despise those.
okay Aqua, I'll add you. My FC (buried back 15 or so pages) is: 2062-8885-9676
Do you play online Kirby? I'll add you too just in case.

I don't play as competitively anymore. I play leisurely, just choosing Random and seeing what happens, or taking the request. Last time I played was two months ago I think with UltaFlame. Some funs there, with just lag being a factor Ulta couldn't tolerate...
If I can recall, my code is 0173-0989-5857. I think. It's been a while, probably about six months or so since I last said it.
yeh, I dug it up. Don't worry, I like messing around and having fun too. Just bored of playing with the same people/lvl 9's.
EDIT: ok, put both your fc's in.
Aqua's sig is incredibly ugly for the record.
I just had to say...
Brawl is WIIN! :P
...
*vanishes*
My best characters is Meta Knight
My favorite characters are
Sonic, Meta Knight, and Toon Link
He just looks so funny toon link. He's on Zelda Wind Waker
Fav. Chars. *points at sig*
Best chars.....*points at sig once more*
Favorite Stage......You get the point....
I kick ass at all SSB games. unfortuanately nun of my friends play with me do to the fact that i kick their ass each time.....
I do not have a Wii i wish i did it would be fun brawling you guys

I stopped playing, mainly cuz I made alot of enemies by playing online >_>;
i continued playing, mainly because I haven't made any enemies yet... >.>
You know you can easily make quite the number of enemies depending on the tactics you decide on during battle. ;) ;)
For the dull-headed, what I mean here is that doing cheap dirty tactics that are purely blatant of exploiting and nothing related to skill is totally...um...not the way to go. :P Of course, same goes for button mashing, but it's harder to button mash in Brawl than...say Marvel vs. Capcom.
... or choosing characters with annoying (for the receiving end) moves, I'd imagine as well.
Personally I find Pit's spinning hya-ya-yaa move one of those. And overuse of Ike's aether. O_O
Argh, havent played Brawl since before winter. Traveling in cold and snow is not worth it :P.
If anyone has online play.. yeah.. Rose is ready for ya.
i do!
and eyah im really good at this game
i rock with my red toon link and rock my enemys. i was playing online the other day team games and my parter kept on killing himself, i wont 1 on 2 still... amazing i know...
I can't tell whether I'm good at Brawl or not... one thing I know is I give up on trying to get all those trophies in that stupid annoying blue and red room... :<_<:
Give up, I tell you! >:(
meh. I ignore those. I'm not much of the peson who needs 100% unlockage rate. I did get the mewtwo trophy.
... You're right.
It's such a curse being a perfectionist. :<_<: What was the Mewtwo trophy for again?
i forgot. but it's freaking Mewtwo. it's like, a Pokemon nerds, like, freaking... Neo.
I think Mewtwo was obtained after beating All-Star on a high difficulty...It was beating a certain Mode on a difficulty, however. Such a shame, Mewtwo never made it through. Then again he was always hated for his...interesting style of play and strength...good euphemism to use I say.
I haven't played Brawl in ages. If anyone wants to go a few rounds online then I'm up for it.
Revived. Brawl. Speak of it.
I owned two people yesterday. one said they totally rocked - after GETTING rocked a few dozen times.
the other said Shiek was pathetic. I had to make his case sad.

I hope you play online. I want to introduce you to my fox.

my fox.
I played Fox in SSB Original. He was awesome. I suck at newer varients. Probably because I have neither a Gamecube nor a Wii.

You're not missing much. Fox was nerfed a little in GC, and alot in Wii.
Pika was my fav in N64, though fox could probably do mega damage vs N64 pika.
Fox had an epic shine spike, but it wasn't as biased then as it is now. Wuith the characters they had, Nintendo made a fun, even, and fair game.
yeah, relatively. some characters are more overpowered. though I heard - HEARD - from a rather unreliable source, that the official best player in the world uses Jiggly.
I dont know the best but I do know the cheapest, just ground slam with dk on every level no one can hit him, when they get too close they just get sucked into the move, works with every stage even on hardest mode :P
This is what got me through all the endless melee's on ssbm.
World Champion 64 (http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Isai)
World Champion Melee (http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Ken_Hoang)
There is no official Brawl ranking list yet.
I just unlocked Fox in SSE.
Teh epic.
Also, this would have to be one of my Top 10 Fav games now.
*hopes he can buy it cheap, is currently renting*
