I agree. It is strange how addictive a game like this can be.

I built a tower with stairs from the lava at the bottom of the game field to the clouds at the top
the floors were two boxes high with a box in between to walk on. it had 23 floor and took be two and a half hours to build. WHY! WHY DID IT WASE SO MUCH OF MY TIME!

Survival mode is even more addicting.

Btw, if anyone finds a fun server or creates a server for CP ya'll should post it for multiplayer fun.

ATM, I am building a water slide by my house and trying to make a dungeon using a monster spawner but it's hard to make it fun.
Also if ya'll didn't know, you can have custom skins and modify the textures for the game to make it more pleasing to play.

Just download a texture pack, go to your AppData folder in your User folder, find Minecraft under Roaming it should be the exact location:
C:\Users\XXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin
where XXXXXX is your user name on the computer.
After that you open up minecraft.jar using WinRar or a 3rd party application and then move it over.
DO NOT EXTRACT HERE OR EXTRACT TO A FOLDER JUST OPEN IT UP TO MAKE THINGS EASIER ON YOURSELF ;)

For the texture packs, just use Google, I'm sure you will find something or another.

Also, if you want to just build something and don't want to spend countless hours searching for diamonds or what-not, I suggest downloading INVedit (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=15921)

Another App you can use that is useful would be the Cartograph (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=13134), basically what this does is render you a copy of the world you want as an image or say you wanted certain blocks like Diamond, search for the Diamond on the Minecraft Wiki  (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Main_Page)which is: here. (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Diamond_(ore)) Then you can render a normal copy of your map, then another with only the block Diamond on there which the hex value is 56. Put the diamond on top of the other one and you can see where all the diamond is. Also it shows your world you created which is pretty sweet. For examples just look on the Cartograph thread and it has examples in the first post.

oh man, I'd suggest building underground until you find redstone near your base. Having that compass will really help you find where your spawn point is.

I tried this...I don't get it. Why is this game supposed to be really good? Not trying to be flamebait here, but I honestly got bored like 2 hours in.

Did you try survival mode?

Also, not every game is for everyone. It gets fun when you get really into it to survive and build everything and the joy of finding that humongous cave.

Although I heard a rumor that he is changing the torches to last a certain amount of time and adding in lanterns which last forever but don't have as much light :/
Hope it's not true but I am excited to see what he plans to do with the fishing rod. A fishing minigame would be pretty cool.

What I meant was a game that don't have anything you need to achieve. Or finish or something. This is just like.. Dig, build.. dig some more.. kill some mobs.. build more. and then just continues in a loop.

Yes but the possibilities are endless!
You can farm for wheat, make bread. Make golden apples with gold and an apple. Make a bow with string you collect from spiders.
You basically make the world whatever you want!
Want to make a rollercoaster? Minecarts.
Want to make a boat ride? Boats + buckets of water + type of boundary.
Want to make a fort that you can shoot mobs out of? Bow + Fort + holes on side.

Like you can do so much if you just use your imagination. Right now I'm mining a 50 blocks diameter circle all the way to the bottom of the minecraft world. So far I'm at 6 :D
After I get done I'm placing glass on top so you can walk on a huge pit.

Then I'm thinking about using the materials from it to create a monument.

to bad the server for that dosen't seem to be up any more or at least not available to free people

SMP isn't finished yet, but I'll be hosting a server when it is.

The point of the game, right now, is to dick around.  It's in alpha, presumably the score that you see when you die will mean something later on.

Survival Multiplayer -works- ...it's just buggy as all hell.

You can't even place one because it bugs out and crashes the server.
I can't wait until the beta comes out and all the bugs are fixed.
Also color cloth blocks in survival would be fun so you could make different designs and color up the place.

health is also glitched - nothing takes damage. Better have it set to peaceful.

FUUUUUCK I died right underneath a mob spawner

Ouch :/

I got incredibly lucky one map that I spawned on sand a zombie spawner was like right below me and as soon as I spawned sand fell down and I was like WTF and it turned out to be a mob spawner. So what I did immediately was get a furnace, some coal and some sand and put torches around the mob spawner. Then I put glass all around and a door then I removed the torches, put a layer of dirt above the glass and let zombies spawn so I ended up having an infinite supply of feathers from the zombies. All I had to do was remove the layer of dirt and let the zombies burn :D

But unfortunately, the savefile got corrupted or something and was removed. One of the bugs in the Alpha :/
I should have backed up the map file.

Weirdest thing: a small patch of my game's world reset itself. I lost so much stuff which was in a chest in that area. I got -so- frustrated: Now I need to fix it all up and find gold, and iron again. I lost all my gold and iron. So annoying.

Soon i'll get a new PC.
I hope it runs the game.
Anyone knows how good the graphical card has to be to run this?

Not very good but you still need a decent computer because the java takes up so much memory. Like on my laptop I have to close everything because minecraft will run slow at ~500,000 k and my web browser takes up about 100,000-200,000 k so my computer runs slow then so just have good memory and possibly a good processor and you should be good. The graphic card can be shit. It's literally like 8-bit graphics.


That time my internet had a lot of stuff open so it was running a bit more than usual.

There was snow. I have like 10x 64 blocks of snow in a chest in my old house/cave thingy. IDK what happened but one day I joined my world and it wasn't snowing and the snow was gone. It kinda sucked cause I enjoyed the snow and it was my only snow world so far :/

Also I'm thinking about working on a roller coaster to wind through that mountain thing and once I'm through I'll make a youtube video of me going through it and what not. I'm thinking about making it go through my whole world if I have time.

I'll probably end up using invedit though to make things easier so I won't have to get tonss and tons more iron.

Nevermind, just checked. Was wondering because my torches weren't going out yet but that was because he hasn't added that specific feature just yet.

so I built a nether gate. it was under ground aways in a well designed gate room. I went it, climbed to a light stone formation collected a bunch of dust and left. for some reason I came out in a new gate a ways away from my base ABOVE GROUND! I use the same portal I came through why in earth did it creata a new gate? to test I went in through the new gate. I came out in the nether world from the first gate I exited the nether and came out in the new gate. then i went back to my first gate and went in. same gate in the nether world. i left and I cam out in the new gate again.

There is bugs with the hell gates. Sometimes you go in one, come out and there isn't one behind you, etc...

You should check out the main forum.
People are freaking out becouse of all the bugs in the update, but you have to know that this game is just in alpha. There are games that are free in alpha and have lots of bugs and there are games like minecraft that cost half in alpha and have bugs.
The bugs will be fixed sooner or later.

but the nether is also used for fast traval, in the images above, where each gate was suppsoed to be made it has a gap between them of 10 blocks, now for every block you traval in the nether you move 8 blocks on earth, so this means the 2nd image you have 160 blocks between the 2 gates on earth, if it repeats like this, it can be much further, not to mention that sometimes the gate can be spawned  in a undergound cave with no exit and a mob spawner just near by, you'll end up dying in no time unless you packing lots of food, a diamond sword and trucks loads of arrows and a bow

i've been playing this game for about a month, as of late i've been making a world with has the following

an apocolypic destroyed city that was created for Classic
2 areas generated by ZOMG
another area generated by ZOMG but with a building in the middle

i created a new world, exited and using MCEdit (link found on Minepedia) added the above areas, went back in and the generated areas and the city are much lower than the nornamlly genterated world so where the ruined city is, you'll die trying to fall off the cliff to there so i've build a tunnel from up high going undergound into the bottom of the building with minetracks all the way though it, so far i'm clearing out all the mobs in the building and re doing it's interior becayse ZOMG makes the inside of the building out of clay but i got truck loads of stone (smelted cobblestone) to replace the clay with, also got to figure out where the hell all the dam mobs are spawning from and light those areas up, been lucky a creeper hasn't blown up in there, but once i looked at the entire world in MCEdit and all around my generated stuff there's generated world so it looks like the area as suck into the ground and the ruin city as a gap on 2 of it's sides (where the cliff is)  and theres water going down there liek water falls, gives off the feeling that the city is Lei Monde from Vagrant Story

problem with ZOMG is that it creates levels for classic so you need MCEdit to add it into Alpha Worlds and that it doesn't seem to ever generate Redstone so if you want some you can't cheat by generation a huge block of it, you have to mine it in the normal generated worlds yourself

I just finished building a sky tram. its has an advanced junction system that makes sure that there will be a cart ready no matter what station you get on or off at. if you hop off the cart will keep going until it gets back to the station you left from where it will wait for another ride.  i'll make a video to show case it in the next week or so.

Well then, here is the instructions.

1. Open up the start menu(or if you have XP, the Run dialog) and type in %appdata%
2. In the folder go to the path .minecraft/saves
3. Then just copy the desired world.

I do have a problem, when i try to start minecraft.exe i get the "could not create the java virtual machine" error -_-

then, if you have bought it, try to run it in your browser instead.

I also have a problem, though that is probably because if the computer. Minecraft lags like hell. the strange thing is, Mirrors edge, with all its fancy graphics, run just fine.

If you have a server at home, the only thing that will cost is as I said the electricity and the internet connection. But the internet you are paying anyway.

Nope, I haven't(though I can imagine), but I mean if you already have a computer that is on most time, you can have the server there. You don't get any additional cost for having a program running..

Maybe we should just look for a almoast plane smp server and make our cp place there...

Yes I do. I played with a friend a while ago. Though my father didn't like me going into the router to open up the needed port.

What about a Hamachi server? That would be pretty easy to set up, and would keep your computer relatively safe. Only downside is that you'd need to have internet and power to the computer whenever people wanted to play. Just a thought.

I don't think it's a question of the state of Minecraft; I think it's more an issue of finding someone willing to pay for a server or host it himself. If someone were to set up a server, though, I'd definitely join. I think it would be a lot of fun.

Beleave it or not, I HAVE a server though there are problems.
I only play on it with friends from school, the ip changes every day and i aint getting a static one, it can hold not more then 10 people

Tom has a server with a whitelist, give me your names in PM if you want to be added to it.  We run Runecraft but that's the only real mod.  We just restarted the server after the new year so it's pretty fresh.

I would if my computer weren't too slow. It's almost impossible for me to play minecraft online. I'm trying to find a way to make it run faster, without changing hardware(its a laptop so it is a bit hard..).

Try adding RAM; I know you said that you weren't changing hardware, but most laptops have an access door to allow you to easily add more RAM. It's really very simple, and can massively increase performance.

I have 4 GB ram on a 32bit system so I can't get any more. And I said that also because of it being my school laptop and I'm not allowed to change anything.

what? I'm talking about your hard drive. the hard drive is the slowest piece of hardware in any computer by an order of magnitude. defragmenting it can significantly improve it's speed.

google defraggler, download it, and defragment your hard drive. let it run over night as it will likely take a while and you can't really do anything other that use the internet while it is running

No, it disables auto-defrag by default if it detects an SSD.

there really isn't any point is defraging a SSD is there? the seek time are by virtue non existent so all defragmenting would do is wear down the flash memory and make it fail sooner

Have someone ever told you that you are placing the doors the wrong way? You need to place the doors from the outside of your hideout, so that you can stand in the door opening and hit monsters on the other side without opening the door.

It makes an amazing world, floating lands, waterfalls and lava flows, large towering hills and many huge caves and paths though these hills. The shadows from such make it a challenge as enemies that spawn at night can chill in these large shadowed areas and make exploration much more interesting.

Try to find the pumpkin on the small floating stick of land.

This has been my map of choice to build on.

About a half minute and I found the pumpkin.. strange place for it to be on lol.
But yeah, it is a really awesome map! I think I'll start building on this as well. Maybe changing the seed a bit though.

In the latest update, Notch created something called "seeds" which is basically a string which decides what kind of map you spawn on.
Try "The Eternal Saga" if you want an awesome desert map ;) (Without the ")

When you use a seed, you always spawn the same map, but your spawn location may be in another location, though close to the normal starting point set (approx 255 blocks) you may have to walk around a bit to find the hills. When I first spawned on it I was on a beach and had to do a small walk to get to the hills.


That pumpkin is fun, see there's two coal below it? It's like a rocket!
If you look at the pumpcan (with the waterfal behind you) look to your right and walk, theres a small hole with some iron, dig around there and you get into a cave system with a lot of goodies in it.
