this is probably the stupidest question anyone's asked and i'm probably going to sound like a complete retard asking this but as of late while i've been waiting for the news to come on to be ambient noise for me working on the user guide of Nexis Core, i've been reading over some of the old script i've gotten over the years, mainly to figure out how the 100+ scripts are going to be organized to be far more cleaner (got all script from here in Blizzard folder, no matter the author and everything else in an other folder with original .zip files, project folders and stuff), anyway, i keep reading in Blizzard's Scripts him making his addons and other script compatible with RTAB........so what's RTAB, i did a google search and i get Real Time Battle Systems, Tactical Battle Systems, Turn Active Systems, i really want to know what it is and maybe a link to it, thank you ^_^

Blizzard

Actually you already got it pretty right. RTAB is an Real Time Active Battle. Have you played Final Fantasy? Particularly 6, 7 and 9? Those have RTAB as battle system. It's like turn based except that instead of obviously separated turns you have action bars for the characters and enemies that fill up and then they can execute an action. If you wait, your characters won't do anything while the enemies will keep doing their stuff. It is real time, but you still have to use commands to let your characters attack. So it's basically an altered turn based system, closer to turn based than to ABS.

oh, i've played those games (have them also) so i know what your talking about but is there a general script you use to test compatibility cause Tons talks about a version number for RTAB and that's what i search for on google (searched for RPG Maker XP RTAB) and i already said what i got

Blizzard

Usually those systems are called ATB (Active Time Battle) rather than RTAB. RTAB is actually a specific script, the full name is Minkoff's RTAB. People just keep using the wrong term RTAB to refer to any kind of ATB. The RTAB compatibility I mentioned in Tons of Add-ons refers to Minkoff's script.

I thought there was specific differences between a RTAB and an ATB.

Don't know what they are... but still XD

Edit:
Oh... looked up the differences.
RTAB - time goes on no matter what happens and battlers can act whenever
ATB - time goes on unless the player is within a menu or something or a battler is acting

I paraphrased

Blizzard

ATB and RTAB are the same. There's usually an option in both of them whether time should go on during the menu or not. RTAB is just really one specific version of ATB.

No, its not, and please try not to necropost in dead threads.
I am done scripting for RMXP. I will likely not offer support for even my own scripts anymore, but feel free to ask on the forum, there are plenty of other talented scripters that can help you.
