I never said that they don't. MMO's do it in bigger proportions usually.

but you also never said that they did :)

I can as well tomorrow. Anyways what is this "Much Better Game"

Susys mentioned that Crossfire or whatever game.
it's a watered down, free version of Counter Strike, essentially.

for $19.99 you can get CS:S on steam for free, and play that.  It's much better, and there's probably a lot more people playing it.

i wouldnt mind spending $19.99 but i dont have it.

but yeah y ur right it is a much better game and their is probly more players, but poor people like me have to deal with the suckish stuff.

fugibo

Honestly, I might actually play WoW if it didn't require downloading 2gb patches every time you re-install it God. Why do people put up with that? I mean, if I feel like playing my game, I want to _now_, not whenever the crap I have a non-essential patch installed.

Other than that -- it's okay.

Sally

becouse it really dosent take  that long, you have 3cds
   Original
   TBC
   WotLK

then you have to download a 2gb patch it takes 3hours. to do it all, and you dont even have to be their just go out goto the bar or something, alot of people that play wow have a life.

fugibo

The thing is, when I open WoW, I want to play it.

Sally

ok... so whats stopping you? theirs a patch once a month and theirs only gonna be a big patch when something big comes out, usually they save all the little stuff and bug fixes till then and they only should take a few mins to downlaod iand install the patch. and when theirs a new patch you should just gget exited! "yay new boss"

but yeah i can see where your coming from, the main reason why i get so agrivaded with wow is becouse of how big it is.

I can see where he's coming from too.
The games take a long time to install, then another 3 hours (if you have halfway decent internet) for patching.  It is rather annoying, but unavoidable.

Personally, that's one of the things I like about GW.  You download the resources you need in order to play in the areas you're visiting, so the install takes a very short amount of time.  Just for the first little while that you're playing, you have to wait for maps and textures to download.  Once that's done? you're set.

edit:
in fact, that's exactly why I haven't gone back to FFXI yet.
huuuuuuuge install time, and then patch. lol

router doesn't significantly effect internet speed.

Wow, so you have internet that goes at over 100mbps? Amazing. I thought you couldn't spend $19.99 on a game.

And dear lord, I've installed FFXI twice. The first time it took almost 24 hours.

Sally

i dont, i said when i lived with my dad.

tSwitch

a router can only give you internet as fast as your connection.

a faster router does not increase your connection speed to any noticeable degree.  You have fast web, the router doesn't matter enough to make a difference.

Routers effect how quickly multiple computers can simultaneously utilize the internet, a better router makes that easier, that's all they are for.

Sally

oh, then my dad also has a fast internet connection? i duno all i know is everythign downloaded fast.

fugibo

A cheap router can easily give you 100mb/s. That's enough to download an entire WoW patch in 30 seconds -- that is, if you have a connection as fast as or faster than that. So even if you have Internet so fast your router would limit you unless you forked out some dough, it would take you far less than an hour for a patch.

Anyway,
games with DL sizes over, say, 200mb SUCK. I'm willing to go to there for a patch, since I have 256k, but no further.

oh... mmk well thats somethign i didnt know, well then i duno how, but when im at my dad's i dl stuff much much faster.

fugibo

Yeah, thought so. 1.9 mb/s isn't gonna be pushing any router too hard, unless you have a few dozen people downloading WoW and all its patches simultaneously while in 15 irc chatrooms each.

...that could be a bit of a hyperbole.

GAX

I just jack-in my laptop to the school's T1 Line ^_^

But I have to get into a classroom for that to work...

Still, WoW patch in 10 minutes = win
