Yes you are in space. That doesnt mean that you have to apply real world physics. For example, space has three dimensions. So you could technically fly above or below everything on the two-dimensional game platform. Also, since when are the boundaries in space? Fly off the screen in any direction! I could go on, but my point is that games are not supposed to fully reflect the real world. They are supposed to be entertaining. Part of that is a control scheme. Playability for your game will go way up with some friction and a projectile speed, as well as more manuverability(by which I mean faster acceleration). My final suggestion would be to add sound effects.Great job anyways.
