Well, since RoseSkye proved that Mode7 can work with BlizzABS, I've been thinking about changing the visual style of my game. I know I'll have to do all the graphics myself, but I really don't care. After all, making resources is the most fun thing on RMXP. SO here is a screenshot of a quick mock-up how it could look like.
Spoiler: ShowHide

Yes, Aluxes. This is a new project so I won't mess up the game for testing this.
I made the floor myself, using the same textures I used for my concept arts. The trees are pics of rendered trees I downloaded somewhere.
What do you think?

Very nice sub! I like the floor it looks cool. Where did you get the trees? They look awesome! Yea the fog as well gives it a nice almost spooky atmosphere. I like it :)

Thanks^^ I have no clue where I found the trees, but I can post the m here if you want, They look like they where really 3d ingame. XD The problem with the floor is that it's one big 640x480 tile, it takes alot of space.^^

I just love to do what I do, and this isn't really that awesome, It was quite easy to do.
Actually, YOU deserve a WHY ARE YOU SO AWESOME? I wouldn't be able to do that game without your scripts^^

Icky horizon line though D:

You gotta make sure that your game is worth waiting to download for (size vs playability) and that it's actually playable without too much lag XD

Yeah, I have to fix the horizon, I have no clue why it doesn't show the panorama. And a Radeon hd4870 x2 should be enough to play it, at least if you have a quadcore processor.
Size will be a big problem though. Especially because I won't use midi and I HATE low quality mp3's... at least 320kbit/s.

Ryex

then use .ogg you can get the same quality sound at lower bit rates thus the file is smaller

I might do that. lol, I knew that oggs are smaller and about the same quality, but I never had the idea to just save the music as oggs.

So, should I use this visual style?

Tazero

Oggs take longer to load in-game though =/ No streaming as it loads Dx Less lag all around the sound though :D

If you were a fish...

Ryex

for your game?... yes. it seems to fif perfictly. but shrink the tile!

one big 640x480 tile, it takes alot of space.^^

just find a part of it that tiles meaning you could duplicated it and place the duplicate on one of the sides and you would not see a seam

Update!
I found a site with a library of pictures of 3d trees (There are sites on the internet for EVERYTHING) and added some of them to my tileset. I will use SpeedTree, the program used for the trees in Oblivion, for the final games. Trees are awesome. Here is the new pic:

Spoiler: ShowHide

Now featuring a tree randomly hovering around in the sky.

Yeah, but the problem is that it is a really complex pattern and I don't want to have the same thing repeated all  over again...

fugibo

Actually, Vorbis is lower quality for the same filesize when compared to MP3. 0_o

Also, a quad-core isn't all that common, and RMXP hardly utilizes it at all anyway (RGSS is nearly single-threaded, actually)

Blizzard

Are you sure? An ogg at 64kbps compared to an mp3 on 128kbps sounds about the same to me and I have pretty good ears (I can hear the differences in unrendered stuff in FL Studio, the rendered .wav and the converted .mp3 at 320kbps O_o).

RMXP is fully single threaded. "Threads" in Ruby 1.8.x are all scheduled from 1 thread. Ruby 1.9.x was the first to implement real multi-threading.

Are you serious? Everyone should have a quadcore by now.

So, what do you think of the new pic?

EDIT: SpeedTree needs a copy of 3dMax, of which I only could download a demo. I now have 30 days to create all trees for my game. XDD

NEW PIC: I added skyscrapers which are too small and tanks that look strange. Both are pictures of 3d models and textured by me.
Spoiler: ShowHide

I edited the pic to show how it will look like when i got the panorame to work.

The graphics themselves are too choppy for my personal taste, but it has a ton of potential.

Yeah, these graphics are only for demo purposes anyways, I mean, that giant floortile doesn't even loop and some of the trees are a bit transparent xDD
Well, I decided that I'll not use the mode7 script as it is pretty unusable in the current version. I'll still keep this graphic stype though, which means a combination of real pictures, 3d renders, hand-drawn stuff and some paint shop pro work (yes, I'm not using photoshop). Which again means ALOT of work. This game might take a while, but I'll finish it, especially now after I found some friends who will perhaps help me with concept art, mapping, story and programming. I'll perhaps make a recruitment topic when BlackStatic finally finshed the storyline :V: Is anyone interested?
