Bad Game Name word List

This is a list of almost every word you never want to see in your game title, either because it's cliche, over used, or other.

1. Chronicles - Single most overused word in video game titles, and also often improperly used. Please if you absoloutly must use it, check it's dictionary definition.
2. Super - Not necissarily something you put in the title of an rpg, but none the less, the only justifyable reason for this word in your title any more is if it was made in the 90s for the super nintendo entertainment system.
3. Extreme - Games with this in their title seem to be anything but extreme.
4. Ultimate - Your game is bound to be an Ultimate Failure, if this word sounds like a good word to put in your title.
5. Party - o.O wait what? an rpg with the word Party in it? Bad idea....
6. Dragon - This is the most cliche, and should only be used if your game's point is to be cliche.
7. Magic/Mana/Other word for magic here - If its common term for magic its a bad idea unless you got a really good reason.
8. Apocolypse - Zombie can be okay, but if your title is something like "Ultimate Dragon Apocolypse" go as 4chan /b for help, im sure they will tell you to kill yourself, and I agree.
9. Love - Depends on it's sourounding words, but its kinda cliche even if its not used often.
10. Journy - Every rpg has one... why must yours be part of your title?
11. Secret - Ill tell you what is not a secret, a game with this in the title totally doesn't have one!
12. Final - As we have all seen with the popular series "final fantasy" final... actually means "we are gonna go on for another 500 games if we can.
13. Fantasy - No..... its a sci-fi rpg! Lets call it Final Sci-fi instead!!!
14. Crystal - lets face it, anything that sounds semi magical has been used.
16. Demon/Angel - Im gonna stop explainging these now
17. Legend
18. Profecy
19. Epic
20. Blood
21. Eye
22. Monster
23. Sword
24. Story
25. Knight
26. Night
27. Power
28. Gold
29. Villan
30. Darkness
31. Light
32. Seven
33. Six
34. Tree
35. Fire

There are about 100 more no-no's so the list will grow as sugestions are added, and if you dont agree with something i have said, fine, use the word in your title.... but i still advise caution when doing so.
Oh and yes some of the words are mispelled, but are generally recognizable.

I sure hope you can tell that those are BAD examples of Game Titles.
General Rules to Follow:

1) Don't use the words Eternal, Crystal, Tales, Magic, Fantasy, Dragon, Darkness, Light, Legend, God, Divine, etc...
they've been used SO MANY TIMES it has become absolutely disgusting to see another game named
Fantasy of the Dark Crystal Song.

2) IF IT TAKES LONGER TO PRONOUNCE THE NAME OF YOUR GAME THAN IT DOES TO CLICK ON THE TOPIC, YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!

3) Don't use Big words in an attempt to sound smart or mysterious.  It just makes you sound like an asshole.

4) Short, sweet, simple is the best.  With some relevance to the game.
Sometimes Latin works, or Japanese, maybe Spanish.

Just make it sound GOOD.  Don't try to make it sound SMART, and don't use the aforementioned cliche words of RPG-ness.

And I don't think "Journy" would be seen a lot unless the person has been notorious for spelling errors. :x

Few things here. I'm moving this to General RPG Discussion because it does not belong in New Projects. It's not a New Project for one, and it's a list as well. But most importantly, it poses competition to a thread that's stickied here...speaking of that...

how can legend be bad to use in a title. that means the legend of zelda is a rubish name when it isnt.

i admit fantasy and final have been over used :cough: Final Fantasy 7 etc :cough:

It's not bad, it's just overused. Legend of Zelda is a great title because it's a classic and it's a pioneer, a first per se. It's just like the Final Fantasy series. Now, seeing someone else copy the name, that's when it just goes downhill. Legend of the Five Crystals or whatever doesn't sound particularly great, that's for sure.

Thats what I mean final, fantasy, and legend are really overused. I've even seen a few games named with final fantasy and legend in teh same name which makes it really bad.

Though soulbound is a common concept (at least in mmo's) no game has been named that yet (to my knoledge) so i would say your safe. Anyone of the words could be used in a game name and not sound lame, it would just take some serious thinking to do so.
Dead March is also fine, Though I have to ask that you make a sequel called Dead April.... jk..

it's not all about what words you use.
I bet I could make a game and title it 'Final Love' or 'Blood Epic' and you'd all love it.

it's about how you use them and how they are presented.
that's why I focused less on what words not to use, and focused more on guidelines to follow.

yes, generally, these are terrible words to use in a title, but that's because they're used terribly.

also Dead March is a great name becuase it fits your theme of the game and it doesnt sound cheesey.
