A minor update to my rpg-graphics.
Spoiler: ShowHide

I know it looks the same, but the water tile is now animated :D yaaaaaaaaay! I also messed around with the trees a bit. Overall, I am happy :D

Heretic86

Your dude needs an Adam Leaf to cover his junk and some hair!

Actually, looks pretty decent.  The two different colored grasses and tree shadows somehow seem a bit off for some reason, but very nicely detailed.

Lol, yeah mah guy is a hipster who thinks clothes and hair are too main stream. :V

Do you think the darker grass seems off because of how dark it is? I've actually never made it that dark before. It also could be because I made it really square lol. All shall come together in the end :D

KK20

If the grass were found in separate areas, it'd look good. But as of now, the contrast in lighting is too much for the two to blend together.

Also the tree foliage reminds me of old-school computer game graphics. The purple really brings that feeling out.

You definitely have come a long way with your graphics, man. I like the style. :D

Howdy all. I have been reading threads in this forum for the past two months as I've taught myself to use RPGMaker XP and Blizz Abs.

This resource has been amazing; thank you to everyone in this community for developing such amazing scripts, and creating such an amazing support structure!

I've been working on a game centered around Blizz abs; here's some screenies from the first hour of gameplay (a foreboding cave)
Spoiler: ShowHide

And here's some random shots from other parts of the game:
Spoiler: ShowHide

(So far I have about 3 hours of gameplay done, with about 9 fully scripted boss fights (enemies have a variety of phases, scripted movement patterns, enrage mechanics etc).  Sadly with each new map that I paint in photoshop, I get better at it.  So the stuff I made before looks so bad that it doesn't mesh well with the art I'm outputting now.

Some other perks include: Visual Equipment, full crafting system, on-the-fly shapechanging (you transform into various beasts with their own skill sets), fully customizable character builds with stat allocation, lots of love...

I'm not a seasoned RMXP pro, but I'm putting a ton of effort intro trying to make a game with fantastic gameplay that really pushes Blizz Abs to the limit.

Thanks for looking,
Shek

Those screenshots look phenomenal!  Its amazing what atmosphere and tilesets can do when really pushed!

Updated my Balance Counter system, now when close to either side of the scale the screen begins to change colors

Spoiler: ShowHide
[Pre "Forced-Rapture" event, with on-screen warning]

when approaching "forced rapture" screen goes more and more monotone (save for some details), when you reach the 90% mark on "good" you'll
get this bright red visual cue meaning one more mistake or event that alters the balance towards good will instantly trigger the forced rapture event
and get a game over.

the "Gates of Hell" event is similar, however the screen grows red instead of monotone.

on a sidenote: NPC's get more frantic (or entranced in the case of forced rapture) dialogue depending how close you are to a game over.

@Shek:
looks phenomenal. Can't even imagine how epic it would be with custom 3D-esque sprites to fit the backgrounds.

@RAVSO:
maybe it's just my OCD but the stairs at the middle of the screen are supposed to be 1 tile longer. Also I'm curious why you have leaves in your fog when it looks more like a desert. The effect itself looks nice though, especially the red lights in contrast to the monochrome background.

ah well you see, the stairs in the middle are technically supposed to be 1 1/2 tiles long (assuming that's how I did the indoor stairs) but the tileset
only provided a full tile for the stairs and no tiles split in half, having 2 full stairs would have made the whole building look a bit more weird.

as for the leaves... well geographically speaking, the whole area is a huge canopy, while the area on the screenshot is actually the underneath of
such canopy, there's actually leaves on the ground, while cliffs have been stripped of all vegetation (it's a settlement)
later in-game you can actually get to those stairs in the back and scale outside of the cliff and into the canopy itself

here's a more colorful pic for comparison:
Spoiler: ShowHide

as you may have also noticed:
Spoiler: ShowHide
Vegetation isn't growing on such cliff because it's not truly a cliff to begin with... with a late-game item you can actually go explore the insides of such cliff.

on a sidenote, NPC's now have different comments depending on how bad the scale is getting tilted
(pic taken from my old version of the counter, before I decided to go for monotone)

and yes drunk aluxes seems more dead than drunk, I'll fix that.

You might want to fix your player guy's charset. By moving him up on the template, you made him appear a few pixels higher than the event he's talking to.

actually that's the 8 way movement script, apparently lets you move characters in near pixel by pixel in 8 different directions instead of the classic 4
it also gives me more freedom when making maps where moving in diagonal would have been tedious XD

sadly this only applies to the player character, while other NPC's are still bound to the tileset grid, also if you trigger an event while not properly
alligned, the next (evented) move you take snaps you back to the grid.

Sadly, this tileset is the hardest I've worked with ever, so I'm going to have to scrap it.

you should keep it IMO... yes good looking tilesets are the hardest to properly implement, but when done right
they can easily make the best maps your project has,

I've seen people use rather simple tilesets and still manage to pull out really good results, that tileset in particular
looks pretty sweet and it would be such a waste to just give up on it...

Sase, that looks very good! I might put the tileset in photoshop and adjust the color curves to make it slightly more vibrant.

I've been busy painting tons of maps for the ARpg I'm making, here's the map itself, and here's a little banner for the game :)

@Shek
I assume you use 8 way and pixel movement in your game? The maps look amazing but the RTP sprites bug the hell out of me. You look like you put a good amount of effort into your maps, is there a reason that you can't do sprites or you just don't feel like it? I know, I'm repeating myself but it would make the overall look ten times better.

Here's couple more screenshots, this time of a cave. The BlizzABS HUD is turned off because I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
