Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have finally decided to make the upgrade!! No more than 1hour ago I placed an order on Walmart.com for a Sony Playstation 3 and a couple accessories. The items purchased are part of what I like to call.. .. ..Calintz's PS3 Starter Kit, and contains the following items...

Sony Playstation 3 120GB Game Console (I have chosen not to download extra content and shit, so I decided 120GB will do just fine)
Sony Dualshock 3 Analog Bluetooth Controller (Black)
Energizer Tower (charges two controllers simultaneously with two USB ports for a maximum of 4controllers)
Playstation 3 Vertical Stand
God of War Collection

Whaddya think?
Am I off to a good start or what?

G_G

Pretty good start. I take it its the newer slim ps3's?

What bites is that the new slim ones can't play ps2 games where one of the phat models were able too. I want to get the God of War collection so bad but I'm saving up for a new xbox360, ours burned out completely.

I'll buy your awesome starter kit for 2 cents :3 :V

No but I think its a good start, there are a few good games on the Playsation Store. Playing online is free unlike Xbox Live which is good.
If you loved final fantasy 7, get a playstation cash card so you can download the full game from the playstation store.

Have fun!

Calintz

I was thinking about that, but I have decided against downloading things from the internet other than DEMOs to be removed when finished playing them. I decided to go with the God of War Collection, because I played the very first one for PS2 and I loved it!! I never finished it, because I was borrowing it and had to return it. I never personally owned the game, so I'm stoked that I'm getting I&II together, remastered in HI-DEF to enjoy!!

I am 100% okay with my PS3 not being able to play PS2 games, in fact, not all older PS3 models supported the backwards compatibility. I do believe only two of the PS3s did.

I love how they have the classics online for download though. Should I decide to purchase any of the classics from the site it will definitely be the earlier Final Fantasy games (VII, VIII, IX). What's more, I have a PSP, so I can have the game on both, and the systems are linkable. =D.

SONY FUCKING ROCKS!!

G_G

Sony rocks until they block the playstation store on a hacked psp (pretty much the same as a jailbroken ipod)

Blizzard

You didn't get Lexima Legends 1, 2 and 3? :V:

@GameGuy:
Lol, I don't see anything wrong with that!! Shame on you for trying Game_Guy!! XD

@Blizzard:
What??
I did see a game in an EBGames store with Jason on it. The title was Chaos Legion or something. It was the exact same picture you have, but with different hair.

Landith

*cough* *cough* Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II *cough*

Other than that, perfect set up (:
I need to purchase a vertical stand myself as I got a PS3 slim for christmas and I hate having it laying down, just takes up to much room.
Especially when I get my HD PVR ;)
If you get internet you should give me your PSN so we could play online sometime.

Also on the GoW Collection, I got that for Christmas as well and I got to say seeing the old God of Wars in HD is pretty nice. The only thing I don't like is how the didn't re-master the cutscenes but it's still nice to be able to play it in HD (:

Calintz

!! LMAO !!
They didn't remaster the cutcenes!! Those fools!!

I will definitely give you my PSN, because I use road runner with a wireless router. It's how I am on right now from my laptop. I plan on getting both of those titles, along with their predecessors. Online at walmart.com, Modern Warfare 2 is only $44.00, and Assassin's Creed 2 is $45.00. Can't go wrong there!! Since I'm an employee, I get an additional 10% discount. =D.

coolio Calintz. Great choice on the GoW collection ;)

Thanks Royal.. .. ..

I am going to also buy the new God of War III.
It's coming out soon, and is available for pre-order almost everywhere!!

So to say the least.. .. ..
I'm pretty stoked!! My stuff should be arriving anywhere between the 25th and the 29th I was told.

@Landith:
It's kind of a pain that the vertical stands cost $20 alone though.. .. ..

Diokatsu

GoW III has tracks from some of my favorite metal artists including Dream Theater. Fucking great.

Calintz

Sounds awesome!!
I'm not too into metal, but I love heavy rock, so it should be interesting.

Diokatsu

It's GoW, metal is totally going to fit the part. It's a game that demands hardcore and emotional music. I'm just hoping it lives up to the standards of the past two.

C.C. rOyAl

Yeah I cant wait for III, I've already pre-ordered it!
Spoiler: ShowHide

Landith

Yeah, the vertical stand is expensive for just a small piece of plastic :/
But like I'm going to buy it after I buy my HD PVR which is like 250$ because I need room for my HD PVR so yeah it's going to be awhile before I get enough money for the stand and the HD PVR :P

But good idea, CoD MW1 and Assassin's Creed I is pretty fun. GoW III is suppose to be really beast. I didn't really like CoD WaW though, you might like it if you like World War II games though.

Another game you might want to look into is Resident Evil 5, it's good if you like 3rd person linear shooters.

Also I suggest buying MW1 before MW2 if your going to play the campaign as MW2 starts where MW1 left off.
You don't really need Assassin's Creed I before Assassin's Creed II because the storylines are pretty much completely different just a little references from the first one that you might not get. But yeah, just my 2 cents (:

Calintz

Nice, nice.. .. ..
I am upgrading my entertainment center also.

On my list is a Sony Bravia 32" and a Sound Bar.
I want to get a Sony Blu Ray player also. I want to keep my PS3 for gaming use only.

fugibo

money would be so awesome
just sayin'
I'm having to restrain from buying some The Shivers albums right now.

PS3 is hilarious.  They go through all this effort to make an extremely fast and capable system, albeit high priced, but then it gets shafted in cross-platform titles because development is so much better on the XBOX 360 XD

Calintz

I'm not gonna argue this subject.
PS3 performs better, and has better service. End of story.. .. ..

Also, PS3 are reliable, being a Sony Product. I don't know anybody personally who has had a single problem with their PS3, however, I have three immediate friends whose Xbox's crashed repeatedly. One friend has gone through 3of them. Fuck Xbox. It's the joke of the gaming world. Wii beats it in my opinion.

Ehhh...
It kinda goes both ways. But I think that PS3 is better than Xbox360.
The only problem I've ever had with PS3 is the Headsets. Xbox360 wins when it comes to headsets (Turtle Beach Ear Force ftw).
But other than that the PS3 is better than the 360.

And the PS3 isn't high priced at all o_O
The xBox360 is actually way over priced considering what you get.

Like take for instance, the Xbox360 Arcade package, you get 256 MB storage(w00T!), 1 controller, 1 AV cable, Free Silver Membership(to actually play online it costs money) and that's it for 199.99.
Now for the Elite Package, you get 120 GB storage(same as PS3 slim standard), 1 controller, 1 headset, 1 Network Cable, 1 AV cable, Free Silver Membership(To actually play it costs money) and can play over 300+ xbox games. That's all you get for 299.99.

Now for the PS3. I'll just go into what Calintz got and not the other packages.
120 GB HD, Blu-Ray player built in, WiFi built in, Wireless Controller, FREE Playstation Network membership, AV Cable, USB cable(to charge controller). All for 299.99.

Now think about it for a second. How much would internet a year cost for xbox? $50 a year, $19.99 every 3 months or $7.99 a month. That adds up fast. You could be saving $50 a year using PS3. Plus it comes with Built-in WiFi. WiFi for an xbox costs $70 for an adapter. So your basically paying $50 a year and $70 dollars starting out to even get to what a PS3 has to offer on xbox360. Now I do admit, 360 has some good games out there not on PS3. Halo, Gears of War for instance. But now you can just buy them for PC so what's the point?
Not to mention the built in blu-ray player.

But we are kinda getting off subject...

And Calintz, the Sony Bravia TVs look major cool. Look kinda expensive though o_O

Oh and PS. Wii ftw (:

Diokatsu

Blue-Ray player was worth the entire price of the PS3 when it came out. Microsoft is dumb as fuck thinking it could get away with not including it. It's a fucking rip-off with the highest console rate failures of any of the next-gen concoles.

But you are right, it's way easier to make games for the 360. Definitely a pro in a gaming community not ready and capable of taking command of the PS3s far superior specs.

winkio

no, you people don't understand, I'm not hating on the system.  They system is great.

The short explanation:
The XBOX 360 and PS3 process code differently and because of that, games will not perform to their full potential when ported.  Thus, the PS3 gets shafted because cross platform games are developed for the 360 environment and then ported to the PS3, because the 360 is much nicer for developers.

The long explanation:
The XBOX 360 has a certain amount of cores (3 or 4 I think) that handle all the processing.  These are high powered cores that can handle multi-threaded stuff and all, just like the dual cores on computers.  The PS3 has a different processing system consiting of 10 or 12 smaller processing units that work together, but with different rules than a multi-core.  Code must be written differently to use all of the PS3's power than to utilize all of the XBOX 360s power.  These are huge differences in the foundation of code, so most games are not completely rewritten, but rather ported to one system, thus not taking advantage of its potential.  In the development world, it is nicer, cleaner, and easier to work with the 360, so most companies develop to use the 360 to its fullest potential, then port to PS3.  Thus, the PS3 gets shafted.

Diokatsu

PS3 is ahead of it's time so much that no one wants to try and keep up. Can't blame them though, it's prolly a bitch to code for like you said. Only game that really caught my eye in terms of PS3 exclusive content was the Batman: Arkham Asylum game. Ridiculously good.

G_G

Winkio's pretty right. In fallout 3 when drinking out of a sink its very smooth in the 360. My dad got the ps3 version for some unknown reason even though we had it already. Anyways when I saw my dad drink out of the sink his character wasn't drinking out of the sink. He was drinking out of the air next to the sink.

He was also drinking out of the table next to the sink before. Kinda whacked up. In that same game when you go into third person view it kinda glitches and keeps the character to the left of the screen zoomed in and to change that you have to sit down and then stand back up.

My friend has oblivion for the ps3 and there were a few problems sitting down before. Sometimes the game would freeze for a few minutes when trying to go into a house.

The fallout and oblivion glitches happened before Bethesda released an update to the game.

Unfortunately, I am selling my PS2 for store credit to a nearby Gamestop to pre-order Lunar Silver Star Harmony for the PSP, and some other stuff.

I didn't play Devil May Cry a lot, I just enjoyed hacking and slashing occasionally.

I personally own a Wii and an Xbox 360. My uncle owns a PS3.

In my humble opinion I like the Xbox 360 more, but the PS3 is pretty wicked too, but I do not own it so I don't get to play it as much.

Anyway, nice kit, you're off to a good start, I'm also a HUGE fan of GoW, I own both I & II Platinum Edition, because I have a PS2 :)

In all honesty, I would suggest games, but I don't know what's good on the PS3, since I play my Xbox 360 way more than my uncle's PS3. (For obvious reasons, he doesn't live with us.) Good luck with your gaming! :D

@Blizzard: I played Chaos Legion a long ass time ago, was an amazing game, but I had it for rental. I managed to beat it though, I'm not going to lie, it had a great battle system and gameplay for such an old game.

There is only 1feature to date that XBOX has that the PS3 doesn't that disappoints me.. .. ..he ability to listen to ANY music stored on your hard drive while you play. Other than that I can't see any reason to buy an XBOX over a PS3.

Have any of you guys played "Bujingai?"
Very similar battle system to the Devil May Cry and Chaos Legion games. You could also soar through the air and run along walls. Added for interesting attack positions. =D.

Landith

Yeah I agree with you there on the music thing.
I was playing the 360 with my cousin at his house and he opened up his music on it while playing MW2 and I was like o_O.
I tried to do it at home on my PS3 and it said "Music content cannot be played during use of this game." I almost cried.

Some games do support in-game Music Playing apparently as I just looked it up to see if it was just an issue with MW2 on PS3. I'll see if I can find a list to see supported games.
Also another good feature that should be coming out is built-in Netflix support. Meaning instant streaming without a disc. Which is good for me cause I'm too lazy to switch out Netflix with MW2.

Quote from: kornchil2002That really isn't the best answer as it isn't even an answer.  I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseum but many people including myself want this feature.  The Xbox 360 has had it from day one back when it launched in November of 2005.  This is yet another feature that the PS3 lacks that the Xbox 360 has had for quite a bit of time.  If Sony wants to compete then they need to surpass the Xbox 360 in the amount of features and right now, this feature is still only on the Xbox 360.  Now there are some games for the PS3 that support it but they are Super Star Dust HD and that bowling game.  So it is time to get in gear and finally become a competitor.

In answer to someone else's comment about asking if you can listen to music while playing.
It's not really confirmed that they will implement XMB yet. Which is basically using everything on your Media Bar on the Home Screen while playing a game. In short, music while gaming.
But I really hope they do implement this as it's pretty much the only thing I find that PS3 is missing out on.

Quite literally the only feature the PS3 lacks. Get your head out of your ass lmao. How about fucking blue-ray. PS3 had it from day one and it's not just a novelty feature that people would "like" to have. It's a requirement for the next-gen of gaming.

Calintz

PS3 has the XMB.
I have my PS3 and I am able to do everything in my media bar so far. I have yet to try to play music, hold on. Let me transfer some and give it a go. I know that my PS3 has XMB though. It's listed in my manual and on the list of features of playstation. com.

No the PS3 is $299 which is the same price as the Xbox 360 Elite. This is atleast American prices. And rumor has it that there is going to be another price drop on the PS3. The only thing the elite has over the PS3 slim is that it comes with a headset. But then you have to pay for Xbox Live. Oh and the PS3 does not need a wireless adapter to go online if you use a wireless router.

Won't seem so expensive when other people go out and have to fit their consoles with blue-ray players.

Landith

Yeah, the headset that sony made for the PS3 is only $50 as well, which isn't too bad. You can buy an off brand for like $35 I think. Or if you already have a headset for your phone or what not just check to see if it's compatible and you have one.

Yes, the XMB comes with PS3 as it's the Cross Media Bar. But what I was talking about was being able to use all features on the XMB. Like you can't change setting while in-game unless it has to do with your mic. You can talk to people but you can't listen to music. You can view your Trophies but not look at Save Data while in-game. I'm hoping that Sony releases an update to were you can do all those things on the XMB in-game.

The PS3 isn't that expensive when you think about what your getting. Because even if you buy an elite you pay for Internet, a wireless adapter, a blu-ray player and chargeable batteries (since the controllers run on batteries you need chargeable ones to be even with Sony's Dual Shock 3 controllers). Oh and I don't think Xbox has built-in Bluetooth compatibility either. Which takes out you using your own Bluetooth headset and having to stick with theirs or buying a Turtle Beach(which is pretty bad-ass if I say so myself).

The only bad thing I would have to say about a PS3 is that since the new slims have better cooling units, the new update, 3.15 was for the slim and not the phat. Well... after the new update if you have a phat, you have a higher chance of over-heating your PS3 which will end up costing you ~$90 for a refurbished one. But shouldn't be a problem with yours as you are getting a slim. Just saying cause I have a slim and a phat and I'm afraid to update the phat until I have money to refurbish it :/

Thanks for clearing that up Landith, Lol.

I truly don't believe the PS3 is overpriced any longer. What it was priced makes no difference now. All that matters is that it is now $299.00 with everything you could ever want in a gaming system without the XMB full function-ability. Don't think it's overpriced.

Lore

Well, I do agree, I would have gotten a PS3, since I was a huge Sony fanboy when I was little.

I got PSX and PS2, ah, good ol' Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter days. However, the one sole reason I got a 360 was just due to the fact that all my friends had it. I'd much rather play over Live with buddies from school than sit and play Single Player, or online with some random people. I love Sony, always been an amazing company, but I'm with the Xbox 360 just because I have that connection with friends.
Facebook is like your fridge. You know nothing is in there, but you check every 5 minutes anyways.

Ah, so they did drop the price after all. I remember that the high price was a huge drawback in the beginning. Lots of people wouldn't buy it because of that.

Yes sir, but that was the old days. They are reasonably priced now.

@Lore:
That's understandable, however, your friends probably only got the XBOX because it was cheaper than the PS3.
If you ask me Microsoft needs to give up. They make games for our computers, and that's where they should leave it. They are a computer company. Let better corporations like Sony handle the gaming systems. Sony is the leader in innovation for a reason. But more on your point...I would prefer single player games, because I grew up playing single player RPGs rather than shooting games with buddies that came over. Besides, unless you have thousands of friends, you are gonna end up playing with complete strangers anyway.

That's actually why they got the 360, and they refuse to buy the PS3. I actually have quite a large collection of friends that have a 360, so at least 5 of them are always on when I sign into XBL.

It's not conquered until you beat God Mode :)
Trust me, it's not THAT hard. Just learn to block and evade :P

However, Titan mode in God of War II is a whole different story >.>

Dang your fast o_O
I played yesterday and only got to the Athens part and that was after like 2-3 hours or so :/
After I beat a game I normally up the difficulty or if it has trophies I go back and try for all the trophies.
(I normally fail at the trophies though :P)

Calintz

Yeah, those trophies are hard to get.

I beat the original God of War in about 6hours. I beat God of War II in about 10hours. I don't really consider that fast myself, but I will say it isn't slow.

The actual games are very very easy to speed run through once you get a hang of the combos.
The real challenge however is God and Titan modes, where you can't simply just chain combos. You'll find most of your time blocking and landing 2-3 hits before you have to block again.
