I would say the Bo is an original weapon, which is why I'm choosing it. Original weapons are hard to come by these days considering the most common weapon of choice for the main person is the sword or any generic weapon, leaving the neglected interesting ones to waste. :x

Pole-Arm (spear, glaive, etc.): That's part of the Generic Weapons family for me...But it wouldn't do half-bad actually as a weapon.
Tonfa: Too lazy to look it up. This may do well.
Boomerangs: I don't like the ideas of Boomerangs, they work better as a sub-weapon and not a main weapon.
Fan: Too bad the reputation of a fan has been ruined by Naruto. :P :V:

What's osu!? It's a rhythm game. Thought I should have a signature with a working rank. ;P It's now clickable!
Still Aqua's biggest fan (Or am I?).

Okay... I KNOW that I posted in here... but it didn't survive I guess? o.o

So I'll paraphrase what I was said:

The weapon for the main character would dependent on the character's class, characteristics, and personality.  (if the class is derived from the weapon, then it doesn't apply here)

Example:  If there was a sweet 5 year old who isn't all that strong and is a pacifist, she probably would not use a pole-arm unless there is some detailed explanation to it.

Soooo it'd help us help you more if you gave us some info on the characters.

Spoofus

well..to put it basically the 2 characters are your average joe..nothing special about them really

one of them is a laid back person who doesnt like to do much really unless he has to.

and the other one is a bit more energetic but would rather read then cause trouble.

and they both are in there 20's none of that young teenage stuff

Aqua

I see...

Also, what's the time period and culture of the game?

winkio

tonfa are pretty awesome, as is the bo.  Polearms just look too menacing and obvious in my opinion, while the bow and tonfa are easily concealable and not extremely noticeable as weapons.  Boomerangs as weapons don't obey the laws of physics, and fans are just,  well,  what kind of self-respecting person attacks people with a fan?

I voted tonfa because bo already had 2 votes, but tonfa and bo FTW!

Diokatsu

I agree with Aqua but I see a sword/dagger more of a lazy person's weapon. Swords tend to be the things of many different heros and are common place among fantasy stories. An energetic person who reads is, in my mind, a tonfa user. An energetic person who reads is unorthodox, and the tonfa isn't in the /classic/ weapon series, as in sword/dagger, hammer/axe, spear ect. The lazy person who does little unless he has to seems more of a sword user. Swords are generic and tend to be overused and the classic lazy person in my mind seems like a hidden sword elitist.

This really isn't a good question. You should pick the weapon that suits them most, as only YOU have the true idea of a character, the nuance that you instilled when making him/her. Try and avoid asking others for such help as most come up with their own feelings rather than sothing you'd agree with, and this leads to some sort of emptiness, when doing it yourself may take time but the result has more finality than taking others views

Aqua

Winkio, a fan is actually a very vesatile weapon (of course, it can't be a dinky one... it'd have to be one of those metal fighting fans that really do exist in some martial arts).

Open fans are helpful for conceal for some other small weapons like maybe a poisoned needle.  Also, a closed can be used as a blunt weapon or as "an extention of the hand" for styles that might involve pressure points.

I'd still like to know the time period and culture before I cast my ballot.

I don't really want to make a debate into this, but the public's opinion can sometimes be used as a good idea. What I mean is that Spoofus may not really take this fully into account, as these are just suggestions. It's not like he just thought of this without reason to back it up. Possibly Spoofus was deadlocked and confused to what weapon his hero should wield and he just needs a little help from the community to get it all back up. Whatever it is, I do agree with your point that the author himself is the best source for decisions like this, but when the author simply can't decide or make one, then it wouldn't hurt to get help (Until the author gets dependent on it like drugs, then it'll be unhealthy).

There are no such things as bad questions. d(^_~)

:V: ?

Weapon choice really matters on the setting of the story and what preference the character likes himself. I see the Bo and Tonfa are pretty popular choices so far (The Boomerang as well). It doesn't matter what personality your character will have when it comes to their wielding weapon. And personality to weapons are just sick generalizations. D: Just choose what you like, do research for the weapons, get a good history going, and have fun with it. XD

@Aqua: Indeed a fan can be a good weapon. But you really have to think hard if you're going to use a fan, especially for a main character. Either way I'm kind of going no with the fan because of the popularity of Naruto. That however is a personal opinion, you can use a fan if you want. :P

The reason I say this a bad question, not asking for a debate either, is that none of us could possibly suggest anything that would be nearly as self-satisfying as picking one yourself. We no neither the whole story nor the nuance of each respective character and we will no neither unless we were to reside in Spoofus' own mind. The author might reach a point where he remains fixated on a certain point, such as weapon or clothing or mood, but in the end he himself will resolve it. i suggested what was traditional and considering Spoofus picked all those weapons himself he /should/ know of all the possiblities, within reason of course. There is, or should not be, no problem with the story and weapon type relationship as this would defeat the purpose of asking as I'll assume he went through the trouble of making a story, and the weapon was a matter of "cool" or "unique". If the matter is on the "coolness" of said weapon then disregard my statements as my point is moot, seeing as I assume that this is a matter of resolution. Upon being a matter of resolution, I argue that HE is the only one who is capable of creating a solid plot so long as he himself is the creator alone. This is due to the tone an author or creator feels towards their creation, this feeling will determine the outcome of the plot and story as a solid unit as a whole. You seemed to agree with me however, saying he should do his own research and get a good history going, which seemingly states that you would wish him to do this himself while using our votes as an elimination point.

Spoofus

lol wow got debateful eh  :haha:

but all in all Starrodkirby86 was pretty close to what i had in mind

and btw i dont think many people would like to reside in my mind (kinda messy :haha:)

but the main purpose of this topic is to which weapon people that are to be players as well, would like to see being used,
and yes i do know that one of the weapons on the list will be used for sure, but lets put it this way all those who vote are helping narrowing down the choices of weapons that are out there.
so please dont take this topic in the wrong way..but you all do have good points on this

oh and on a side note*
the theory that the typical lazy laid back people are sword weilders..is sort of a cliche from movies and anime i think..
im really just trying to stay clear of swords if i can one reason im not really a sword guy

SWORDS!! Lol...
Hahaha, you crack me up. You get originality points for that. :V:

You know what, I think Sarcasm can actually be a great weapon the Main Character uses. It'll produce conflicts and it can possibly resolve them (At the expense of the main character of course).

Pancakes! Seriously. Fill it with acid and it should work. Of course that would be a throwing weapon.

Honestly, my favorite weapon for any main character is the sword, it's an average all around useful weapon. And typically that's what I look for in any main character.

Cliche, I know. But even so, in the end, the weapon a character uses shouldn't have a noticeable impact on your game unless it plays a large part in your plot.

Ok. Seriously, I say Bo. That's what my main character's gonna weild after all.

I think bows are gay (read: for girls) ever since Robin Hood in green tights used one. o.o; But that's just me.

Blizz, first of all, Bo is a staff.  like, a long rod.  Second of all, archers kick ass.  Although I do agree that is more feminine than other weapons, but it isn't a girly weapon...
